S., Herbert, S., Mahou, P., Menant, E., Bedu, S., Tinevez, J.-Y., Baroud, C., Beaurepaire, E., Bellaiche, Y., Bally-Cuif, L., Dray, N. Abstract: The maintenance of neural stem cells (NSCs) in the adult brain depends on their activation frequency and division mode. We use long-term intravital imaging of NSCs in the zebrafish adult telencephalon to link activation and division mode with predictive cellular and molecular parameters. We reveal that apical surface area and expression of the Notch ligand DeltaA predict NSC activation frequency, while deltaA expression marks NSC commitment to neurogenesis. We also find that deltaA-negative NSCs constitute the bona fide self-renewing NSC pool and systematically engage in asymmetric divisions generating a self-renewing deltaAneg and a neurogenic deltaApos NSC. Finally, modulation of Notch signaling during imaging indicates that the prediction of activation frequency by apical size, and the asymmetric divisions of deltaAneg NSCs, are functionally independent of Notch. These results provide dynamic qualitative and quantitative readouts of NSC lineage progression in vivo and support a hierarchical organization of NSCs in differently fated sub-populations. Palestinian author and journalist Dr. Ramzy Baroud discusses the reasons behind Israel's lack of accountability to international law. While many countries, especially in the Global South, are held accountable to United Nations resolutions and to international humanitarian laws, Israel remains untouched. The role of the UK, past and present. What will it take for the Palestinians to achieve justice? Dr. Ramzy Baroud is a journalist, author and the Editor of The Palestine Chronicle. The Israeli state has been losing the battle for Western public opinion for quite some time now. Even in the United States, its closest ally, support for Israel is waning, while sympathy for Palestine has more than doubled since 2013, according to a series of Gallup polls.Knowing this, Israel has redoubled its efforts in soft power. Joining Lowkey today are three people who have closely monitored these efforts: Dr. Ramzy Baroud, Jessica Buxbaum, and Alan MacLeod. One example of Israel trying to launder its image in pop culture is the character of Sabra, an Israeli superhero and Mossad agent. Sabra features in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, “Captain America: New World Order.” Baroud asked Lowkey the question, “why now?” Why had this controversial character made a return, noting,The timing of introducing Sabra fits really nicely into the progression of Israeli propaganda in American movies and in the entertainment industry in general. We are living in an age now, where a superhero can actually be a Mossad agent!”Baroud explored this in detail in his recent MintPress News article, “From Exodus to Marvel: The Israelification of Hollywood.” This latest attempt at woke imperialism is particularly notable, Baroud said, as,Mossad is a notorious organization that is responsible for the assassination of many people, sabotage, destruction, all sorts of sinister business. This is by no means the kind of agency or organization that should be introduced to American youth as if they are the saviors of the human race.”Ramzy Baroud is a journalist and editor of The Palestine Chronicle, as well as a non-resident senior research fellow at the Center for Islam and Global Affairs. He is the author of six books, including “Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders and Intellectuals Speak Out,” co-written with Professor Ilan Pappé.Jessica Buxbaum highlighted the many connections Marvel Studios – particularly its senior executives – have with the apartheid state. Marvel Entertainment chairman Isaac Perlmutter, for example, grew up in 1948-occupied Palestine and served in the IDF during the 1967 Six-Day War, alongside Marvel CEO Avi Arad. Her recent investigation found that many other Marvel senior figures had donated to Zionist organizations, or even to campaign funds for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Also joining Lowkey today is Alan MacLeod, whose latest investigation goes through emails published by WikiLeaks showing that many of Hollywood's most influential producers work closely with the Israeli government and the IDF in order to whitewash its crimes, promote its image, and stamp out any pro-Palestine sentiment in the entertainment world. This went so far as senior entertainment executives introducing IDF officers to other celebrities in an efforSupport the showThe MintPress podcast, “The Watchdog,” hosted by British-Iraqi hip hop artist Lowkey, closely examines organizations about which it is in the public interest to know – including intelligence, lobby and special interest groups influencing policies that infringe on free speech and target dissent. Israel is once again attacking the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israeli forces storming the ancient religious complex fired tear gas and rubber bullets, seriously injuring hundreds and killing at least one person. The latest series of attacks is the most consequential since those in May last year, events that led to the Israeli military killing hundreds of Palestinians, injuring thousands, and forcing tens of thousands to flee their houses.“What is happening at Al-Aqsa right now is more dangerous than at any other time in the past,” Dr. Ramzy Baroud told Lowkey today. On this edition of Parallax Views, US-Palestinian journalist Ramzy Baroud and Israeli historian Dr. Ilan Pappé join us to discuss the movement for Palestinian liberation and the new book they've co-edited related to it Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders & Intellectuals Speak Out. A synopsis of Our Vision for Palestine from the publisher, Clarity Press, sums up the book and its aims better than Parallax Views can: Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders & Intellectuals Speak Out aims to challenge several strata of the current Palestine discourse that have led to the present dead end: the American pro-Israel political discourse, the Israeli colonial discourse, the Arab discourse of purported normalization, and the defunct discourse of the Palestinian factions. None promote justice, none have brought resolution; none bode well for any of the parties involved. Here, engaged Palestinian leaders and intellectuals, those who have been actively involved in generating an ongoing Palestinian discourse on liberation, take into account the parameters of their struggle as it now stands. Drawing on their own personal experiences as educators, community leaders, spiritual leaders, artists, historians, human rights activists, political prisoners, and the like, they address what now, what next, is to be done, in a manner that reflects not only Palestinian aspirations, but their view of what is possible. In this conversation Dr. Pappé and Baroud discuss a number of different topics including the historical distortions, myths, and language that has often blurred the discourse around Israel/Palestine. Dr. Pappé goes over the myths that he covered in his previous book Ten Myths About Israel and Baroud discusses why such myths persist. Additionally, Dr. Pappé gives a historical overview of what is known among Palestinians as the Nakba, or the Catastrophe, that led to the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. Baroud critiques the ways in which Palestinian liberation have been framed over the years and argues that liberation will, as Che Guevera put it in one quote, come not from ordained liberators but rather the people themselves. In this regard, Ramzy Baroud criticizes the ways in which the Palestinian struggle is framed by Westerners, including the Western Left, and the need to make Palestinians the core of Liberation movement. In addition to all of this, Dr. Pappé and Baroud discuss the voices of Palestine and how their individual struggles inform collective struggles; the Palestinian voices that exist beyond the realms of diplomatic and armed struggle; pessimism and hope; settler-colonialism, occupation, and ethnic cleansing; the Nakba and its trauma as ongoing; the failure of the peace process and U.S. policy on Palestine; Palestinians in Gaza and their hope; Palestinian perseverance and creative ways of survival; decolonization; and much, much more.

Hurricane Ida knocked the main New Orleans transmission tower into the Mississippi River, spurring a long-term power outage. Since then, persistent heavy rains have flooded New York subway stations and cascaded to reveal countless vulnerabilities in our critical infrastructure systems. To explain these vulnerabilities and how we can grow in resilience, we talk with Vanderbilt University infrastructure, risk, and resilience expert Hiba Baroud.

Ramzy Baroud discusses the deliberately misleading way that stories about Israel-Palestine are presented in western media. The story, he says, almost always begins with the fact that Palestinians have launched rockets at Israeli forces, or at least presents the conflict as an even fight between two neighbors, in which Israel, of course, has the right to defend its own borders. What's never explained is the fact that the supposed Palestinian territories are at this point little more than heavily-occupied refugee camps, and that attacks from the Palestinians cannot be understood without the background of decades of Israeli aggression. Nevertheless, Baroud describes himself as an optimist: in particular, he thinks the situation has become so obviously one-sided that international support cannot help but shift toward the plight of the Palestinians. Discussed on the show: "Muna is Palestine, Yakub is Israel: The Untold Story of Sheikh Jarrah" (Palestine Chronicle) "If I don't steal it, somebody else is going to steal it." (Twitter) "Opinion | Palestinian Refugees Deserve to Return Home. Jews Should Understand." (The New York Times) Ramzy Baroud is a US-Arab journalist and is the editor-in-chief of the Palestine Chronicle. Dr. Colin Campbell, Washington, DC, senior news correspondent, joins us to discuss the military occupation of Washington DC. Twenty-five thousand military troops accompanied with razor wire and checkpoints now inhabit Capitol Hill and it's surrounding neighborhoods. Civil libertarians and anti-war activists are concerned that the normally bustling yet peaceful K street corridor has been dubbed the "Green Zone" by the US Secret Service and now resembles any number of US military bases in occupied nations around the world.Dr. Jack Rasmus, professor in the Economics and Politics Departments at St. Mary's College of California, joins us to discuss President-elect Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan. Dr. Jack argues that the economy is in the process of a slow crash and that the December stimulus package was far too little. He reviews the Biden package piece by piece and adds that the Democrats should be concerned that the covid related economic devastation may precipitate a 2008 style meltdown of the banking system.Leo Flores, Latin America coordinator for Code Pink, joins us to discuss indicators of Joe Biden's policies towards Latin America. Joe Biden has invited former Exxon Lawyer Carlos Vecchio who also serves as Juan Guaido's envoy in Washington. Vecchio is currently wanted in Venezuela in connection with a rally that turned violent resulting in the crowd setting fire to the Attorney General's office. Flores discusses whether Biden's Latin American policies will differ from Trump's. Raul Diego, Writer, independent photojournalist joins us to discuss his latest Mintpress article about censorship. Raul argues that the events at Capitol Hill provided the perfect excuse for Twitter and other social media companies to advance the agenda of their benefactors in the permanent government of the United States. He also says that Twitter, Facebook, and all the other major social media platforms are organs of the state, to begin with, and that nothing they do falls outside of the ultimate designs of the powers they serve. Alexander Mercouris, editor in Chief at theduran.com & host of "The Duran" on youtube, returns to The Critical Hour to discuss the end of the Barr-Durham investigation into the origins of the controversial Russia Gate operation. Despite media claims that the investigation would be completed by the spring of 2020, it appears that the end of the Trump administration will bring about the end of this inquiry. Mercouris ponders whether Attorney General William Barr was a CIA cover man put in place to string the process out until Donald Trump's term.Mark Sleboda, Moscow-based international relations and security analyst, returns to discuss the arrest of Alexey Navalny. Navalny has been embroiled in a months-long operation in which US CIA operatives have worked with various governments and NGO groups to put forth at least three separate theories as to how he was allegedly poisoned. Navalny recently returned to Russia and was immediately arrested for violating court orders related to an earlier embezzlement conviction. Western officials portray his arrest as a violation of international norms but fail to address the validity of the court's claims against him.Laith Marouf, broadcaster and journalist based in Beirut, Lebanon, joins us to talk about Tunisia. Hundreds have been arrested as Tunisians protest dire economic circumstances in cities around the nation. Gross Domestic Product reduced by 9 percent last year, consumer prices have dramatically increased, and one-third of young people are unemployed.Dan Lazare, investigative journalist and author of "The Velvet Coup," joins us to discuss an article by Ramzy Baroud in which he argues that the Capitol protest and brief occupation has caused deep and lasting damage to the self-serving definition of democracy that the US empire has used to dominate weaker nations. Baroud argues that "A country that has assigned itself the role of the defender of democracy worldwide, now stands unable to defend its own democracy at home." He also says that the Trump phenomenon is a symptom of America's democracy crisis and is likely to worsen in the future.

Chaque matin, Vincent Hervouet nous livre son regard sur l'actualité internationale. Ce mercredi, il s'intéresse au destin de Donald Trump qui se joue à Washington tandis que celui de Joe Biden se joue en Géorgie.
Palestinian journalist Ramzy Baroud discusses a series of recent articles he’s written on the status of Israeli-Palestinian relations, and the long history that informs the situation today. It has now become clear, says Baroud, that the once-promised two-state solution is off the table. The Israeli government has realized that it can pretty much continue to expand its settlements into the dwindling Palestinian lands and keep oppressing its people, all with very little pushback in the international community or the mainstream media. The only realistic way forward will be to officially recognize a single state with full rights for Palestinians. Unfortunately Baroud says that Biden’s cabinet picks mostly hold terrible positions on Israel, and indeed Biden himself was known as one of the biggest Zionists in Washington before Trump came along. Baroud worries that little will change for the Palestinians under the next administration. Discussed on the show: “Moving Past Apartheid: On” (tate is not Ideal Justice, but It is Just and Possible | Countercurrents) “When the People Rose up: How the Intifada Changed the Political Discourse on Palestine” (RamzyBaroud.net) “‘Long Live the (Dead) Peace Process’: Abbas Prioritizes US Ties over Palestinian National Unity” (RamzyBaroud.net) “The King’s Man: Blinken’s Appointment Reassures Israel that Little Will Change under Biden” (RamzyBaroud.net) Ramzy Baroud is a US-Arab journalist and is the editor-in-chief of the Palestine Chronicle. Ramzy Baroud shares the heartbreaking story of Ahmed Amarneh, an engineer who decided to build a home for his family in a network of caves near their town after getting repeatedly denied building permits for a real house by the Israeli government. Now that he has moved his family to the caves, Israel is threatening to demolish the entire cave system. The Amarnehs are not alone, says Baroud—if anything, their story is representative of the general trend of the Israeli government using every legal means possible to prevent Palestinians from living on land that is rightfully theirs, and in many cases even trying to force them out altogether. This kind of ethnic cleansing will probably continue until the West comes to its senses and stops defending the worst of Israel’s human rights abuses. Discussed on the show: “‘People of the Cave’: Palestinians Take Their Fight for Justice to the Mountains” (CounterPunch.org) Oslo Accords “8/28/20 Alan MacLeod on the Tight Relationship Between the US and Israel” (The Libertarian Institute) The Israel Project’s Global Language Dictionary “Biden forces try to debunk story that he threatened to cut aid to Israel over settlements– 38 years ago” (Mondoweiss) “Opinion | For Israel and Palestine, Equality in a One-State Solution” (The New York Times) Ramzy Baroud is a US-Arab journalist and is the editor-in-chief of the Palestine Chronicle. Scott interviews Ramzy Baroud about the Israeli annexation of Palestine, including Trump’s role as perhaps the most acquiescent president in American history in going along with the agenda of the Israeli government. Most recently this has meant acceding to Netanyahu’s plans for massive annexation of the West Bank. Although Israel has appeared to back down slightly from its aggressive annexation plan, Baroud is adamant that this is merely a public posture to deflect international criticism, when in reality these Palestinian territories have always been under de facto Israeli control, and will continue to be so. And although Trump has been unusually indulgent with the Israelis, Baroud suspects that a Biden presidency wouldn’t be any better. Baroud laments the fact that the Palestinian perspective is never portrayed in the mainstream media, and so almost everyone in the U.S. only ever hears a deceptive, pro-Israel narrative. Ramzy Baroud discusses the 100-year history of Jewish Zionism, which has resulted in a century of Palestinians being subjugated, killed, and forced off of their land. Palestinians have sometimes been criticized for not accepting the offer made at the time of the Balfour Declaration to keep about 45% of their land, with critics painting them as intransigent terrorists who refuse to negotiate reasonably or peacefully. Baroud explains how absurd it would be to imagine Americans, or any other people, meekly accepting the annexation of even 1% of their land, let alone over half of it. Today Palestinians have been left with much less than that 45%, and now the Netanyahu government is moving to take over even more of the West Bank in order to secure access to natural resources, land for settlements, and strategic military positions. Baroud believes that the Zionist project will not end until it has achieved the ethnic cleansing of every single Palestinian by whatever means necessary. Scott talks with Ramzy Baroud about the ongoing crisis for Palestinians in the West Bank, and in particular in the Gaza Strip, who face forced confinement and military occupation as parts of their daily lives. Baroud is reminded of the partial quarantine most Americans are facing today because of the coronavirus pandemic, and has been taking the opportunity to tell his story—and the stories of many like him—who spent their childhoods under a kind of quarantine as refugees. While sympathizing deeply with the hardships being faced all over the country, he and Scott hope that some Americans might come to see how inhumane life for the Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli occupiers is, given how strenuous this much smaller taste of quarantine can be. The current protests in Gaza have involved tens of thousands of people. It’s the largest sustained mobilisation of Palestinians in many years. Despite the largely peaceful nature of the protests, at least 48 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli Army, and many hundreds wounded. Dubbed the Great Return March, this new movement has given birth to a flowering of creative, non-violent resistance to the Zionist occupation. Palestinian scholar and author Dr Ramzy Baroud has written for many years on the history and politics of the Palestinian struggle. Alex Whisson interviewed Dr Baroud ahead of his Australian speaking tour, beginning with the question of why the Palestinian struggle for justice and nationhood has for so long been grossly mischaracterised as terrorism and nothing but terrorism.
old friend Brian "beebs" Baroud comes through and talks about body building with the crew!
