Streaming services have revolutionized the way we listen to music. But before we had these platforms, how did we tune in? Let's rewind back before the radio, cassettes, or CDs, and take a look at the record player. In this episode of 365 days with mxmtoon, Maia shares the history of how German immigrant Emile Berliner found inspiration to improve upon Thomas Edison’s invention of the phonograph. Berliner’s improvement became known as the gramophone, which we commonly call the record player. This was world changing for the music industry, creating accessibility for people all around the world to hear music that was available to them live. Speaking of the music industry, on this day the first hip hop group hit the Billboard Top 10 with their third album, which led them to be inducted into the Library of Congress. Join this episode today and make sure you’re following along with the daily updates @365daysmxmtoon on all platforms. Distributed by Talkhouse.

We have been meeting new people all the time that are creating communities that are willing to support one another in each of our endeavors. We've focused mainly on music in this show because that's where Dave and I come from. We are in the music and entertainment industry. The place that our friends go to play is Chicago Street Pub in Downtown Joliet. It was there that so many community driven people started gather. You can't help being swept up in the energy of everyone's excitement. We all realized what a wonderful place we could all create together. That is the inspiration for us to show you a glimpse of What's Goin' Down In Downtown J- Town.In Episode 19, we are happy to introduce to you some music from the West Chicago area. These guys heard about our show, and asked us if they could come on. Joe Loveit even came all the way out to the Monday Night Acoustic Open Mic at the beloved Chi'er hosted by Alex Hoffer. These guys take pride in their grass roots approach to the business side of music. I really like the tunes. They're solid guys that take what they do seriously, as they strive to evolve.Your hosts,David Francis & Tom Maslowskihttps://www.facebook.com/Bluesandcorduroys/https://www.facebook.com/Chicago-Street-Pub-Music-Food-Beer-205506299468892/https://www.facebook.com/thirdcitysound/
Harold López-Nussa was born into a musical family in Havana in 1983. Not only are his father and uncle—Ernán, a pianist—working musicians, but also his late mother, Mayra Torres, was a highly regarded piano teacher. At the age of eight, López-Nussa began studying at the Manuel Saumell Elementary School of Music, then the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory and finally graduating with a degree in classical piano from the Instituto Superior de Artes (ISA). The conservatory-trained pianist is the first Cuba-based musician (he has dual citizenship in both Cuba and France) to release an album internationally since the lifting of many of the restrictions associated with the longstanding trade embargo. In 2005 he played at the Montreux Jazz Festival, where he was awarded the First Prize and the Audience Award in Solo piano Competition, and he was recently awarded the French musical society’s ADAMI as "Talent Jazz 2011".With the release of El Viaje with younger brother Ruy Adrián López-Nussa on drums and percussion; and Alune Wade on bass and vocals, he appears on the brink of a global breakthrough. High Sunday, a LA-based band that specializes in sizzling energy and a massive hip-hop presence is releasing their debut single, "Wonderland" This December. The group is an eclectic mix of the talents of five men and two women - Eddie Core, Ike Deezl, Nick Fazekas, Evann Lewis, Nicole Row, Drin Elliot and Ryan Evangelista. They consistently produce a fresh take on hip hop by combining elements from jazz, rock, reggae and funk Their new track "Wonderland", uses dizzying horns and chromatic synths to create a progressive hip-hop, accented with booming basslines and menacing vocal layers over an unstoppable beat.
