Da ist sie nun, die Zeit zwischen den Festen. Die Weihnachtsfeiern sind vorbei, die Geschenke ausgepackt, der Christbaum samt Christbaumschmuck hatte seinen Auftritt und die Weihnachtslieder sind gesungen – wir haben in den letzten Tagen berichtet. Aber die nächste Sause naht, das Neue Jahr will gefeiert sein. Und die Berliner ziehen, wenig überraschend, los, will man dem Hamburgischen Correspondenten vom 30. Dezember 1925 glauben, um Böller und Feuerwerk zu kaufen. Die Bilanz des Weihnachtsfestes, mit all den Unmengen an Gänsen, die daran glauben mussten, und einen Ausblick auf die kommende Neujahrs-Nacht mit einer ordentlichen Portion Galgenhumor präsentiert uns Rosa Leu.

„Pop und Politik in Deutschland“ will uns Marcus S. Kleiner schmackhaft machen mit seinem Sachbuch „Keine Macht für Niemand“. Darin erzählt er Zeitgeschichte anhand von 260 Songs, die etwas bewegen wollten. Die titelgebende Band „Ton Steine Scherben“ ist natürlich dabei, aber auch BAP, Marius Müller Westernhagen, Tocotronic und Hannes Wader. Wir haben uns jedenfalls gern mit dem umtriebigen Medien- und Kulturwissenschaftler unterhalten, der nebenbei auch noch ein Buch über Bruce Springsteen herausgebracht hat. Valí se na nás zprávy, že sport je zásadní nejen pro zdraví těla a duše, ale dokonce i pro inteligenci: dozvídáme se například, že trénink nohou pomáhá uchovávat, dokonce obnovovat šedou mozkovou kůru. Pokud se v této záplavě doporučení přece jen rýsuje něco trvalejšího, pak to, že současné výzkumy stále přesvědčivěji potvrzují ideu vtělené mysli spíše než tradiční dualismus těla a ducha. A jakkoli lze sportovat s cílem být zdravější, krásnější a – kdo ví, třeba i – chytřejší, stojí za to připomenout i jiný rozměr sportu, který ve své knize Tělesná výchova obdivuhodně vystihl slovenský novinář a spisovatel Martin M. Šimečka.Autor navazuje na antické zdroje západní tradice sportu, v nichž byl pohyb úzce spjat s uměním. Sport i umění vycházejí z činností, které nejsou nutné k holému přežití – a právě proto patří k výsostným projevům svobody. V jejich rámci může uprostřed hranic lidských sil a přírodních zákonů vzniknout něco, co tyto zákony nejen respektuje, ale proměňuje v nosný rámec lidské existence. Autor přitom pohyb čte jako místo, kde se setkává krása s inteligencí: „Jsem si jistý, že elegance pohybu výjimečného běžce, plavce nebo tenisty nezávisí jen na stavbě těla a struktuře svalů. Je výjimečným výkonem mysli.“Především je však pohyb zdrojem specifického poznání. Učí nás, že chceme-li se posunout, často musíme jednat proti intuici: „Podstata každého účelného a elegantního pohybu… je kontraintuitivní.“ Tam, kde amatér uhne, profesionál jde naproti; kde běžně přidáváme, je někdy třeba ubrat. Kontraintuitivní je i poznání, že větší námaha nemusí vést k lepšímu výsledku: „Neustálou námahou ztuhne tělo i duše, mysl – a začne se mýlit.“ Sport se tak ukazuje nejen jako škola přemáhání, ale i uvolnění – a paradoxně i jako odpor vůči ideologii vítězství. Was durchaus funktioniert, zumal inzwischen drei Romane erschienen sind, die starke autobiografische Züge tragen. Und alle Bestseller wurden. "Der Apfelbaum", "Ada" und jetzt "Sputnik". Der 1957 geborene Berliner wusste früh, dass er als Schauspieler leben müsste, eine Alternative schien es nie gegeben zu haben. Haken wir gleich mal nach. Mit 14 geht der Junge für ein Trimester nach Paris, die Sprache liebt er, die Stadt, das Land, und so bleibt Berkel länger als geplant, kehrt nach zwei Jahren zurück und widmet sich mit voller Energie dem Theater und immer auch der Arbeit vor der Kamera - eine Sache, auf die er sich über all die Jahrzehnte zuverlässig und immer erfolgreich verlassen konnte. Da geht es ihm wie seiner Frau und Mutter der Söhne, Andrea Sawatzki, ebenfalls erfolgreiche Schauspielerin, ebenfalls schon mehrfache Bestsellerautorin. Berlin war in den vergangenen Tagen kurz das Zentrum der Verhandlungen für einen Frieden in der Ukraine. Ein Erfolg für die Bundesregierung. Aber bisher scheint Russland weiter kein Interesse an einem Frieden zu haben.

Steigende Mieten, schimmelige Wohnungen und horrende Profite für Immobilienkonzerne: 58 Prozent der Berliner:innen haben deshalb 2021 in einem Volksentscheid dafür gestimmt, große Wohnungskonzerne zu vergesellschaften. Doch nach dem Abstimmungserfolg folgte eine jahrelange Blockade des Senats. Das Ergebnis ist ernüchternd: Bis heute wurde der Entscheid nicht umgesetzt. Die Initiative "Deutsche Wohnen & Co" gibt nicht auf und legt jetzt ein Vergesellschaftungsgesetz vor, über das sie die Berliner:innen in einem zweiten Volksentscheid abstimmen lassen. Wird das Gesetz von einer Mehrheit angenommen, ist die Vergesellschaftung beschlossene Sache - auch ohne die Zustimmung des Senats. In der neuen Folge sprechen Inken und Valentin mit Thomas und Louise vom Volksentscheid "Deutsche Wohnen & Co enteignen" darüber, wie sie so ein komplexes Gesetz geschrieben haben und fragen, wie sie es schaffen, sich nicht kleinkriegen zu lassen. Die beiden erzählen im WAS TUN-Gespräch, was seit September 2021 passiert ist, was genau in dem Gesetz steht und wie die Vergesellschaftung für den Landeshaushalt sogar ohne zusätzliche Kosten gelingen kann – aber am Wichtigsten: Wie ihr mitmachen könnt.

Among the conference speakers was Hadash MK Ayman Odeh, who called on German politicians to follow other European leaders in recognizing a Palestinian state and acknowledge that “there are two peoples in our shared homeland, both with the right to self-determination.” John Philipp Albrecht, president of the Heinrich Boell Foundation – a co-sponsor of the Haaretz conference – took the stage to denounce the attempts of the Netanyahu government's “attacks and intimidation” against European NGOs that promote democracy and Israeli-Palestinian coexistence, noting that “alienating friends and partners of Israel is a strange strategy to strengthen Israel's security.” Also speaking was Prof. Meron Mendel, director of the Anne Frank Center in Frankfurt, who warned against the way in which German and other European far-right anti-immigration parties misleadingly present themselves as defenders of Israel and opponents of antisemitism, as they enjoy the embrace of Israel’s current right-wing coalition.
