Send us Fan MailPentecost did not begin with power. It began with prayer. In this Pentecost Sunday message from Acts 1–2, we see how the early church devoted themselves to prayer before the Holy Spirit was poured out upon them. This sermon explores: • The disciples' dependence on God in the Upper Room • The coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost • How the Spirit empowers believers for witness and harvestThis is not merely a sermon about spiritual experience. It is a call back to dependence on Christ, Spirit-filled prayer, and kingdom mission.Because when prayer and the Spirit come together… harvest follows.
In the Old Testament, prophets were equipped by God to illuminate His purpose for the people. One such leader, Zechariah, rallied the Jewish people after their Babylonian exile, using a “hope-ray vision” that was vibrant, revealing, and galvanizing. His powerful visions, bold promises, and vivid prophecies revealed God's heart to protect, restore, and lead His people. And that message still rings true today. Join Horizon at the Equipping Services for a verse-by-verse journey through ZECHARIAH as we see how Christ-followers, like the Israelites before us, can rediscover hope by looking deep into God's work.

You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” The Holy Spirit is not an “it”, but a “He.” He: Is sent by the Father Is a continuation of Christ's presence Dwells within believers Relates personally If the Holy Spirit is reduced to a force We try to use HIm rather than relate to HIm We misunderstand how transformation occurs Growth involves awareness of and responsiveness to the Spirit's presence. The Holy Spirit Gives New Life John 3:5-8 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Spiritual life begins with the Spirit's work of regeneration He: Brings new birth Awakens spiritual understanding Initiates transformation We do not produce new life; we receive it. Discipleship is not self-improvement. It is a new life lived out. Without regeneration, spiritual growth is impossible. We shift from human effort to divine initiation. The Holy Spirit Indwells Every Believer 1 Cor. 6:19-20 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” Every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit This means: God is present within The believer becomes His temple Life is no longer self-owned Indwelling is not for “elite” Christians – it is universal The Christian life is not lived alone. We have the Holy Spirit in us. God's presence is not external guidance, but internal reality Daily life becomes sacred space We live with God, not merely for God. The Holy Spirit Produces Transformation Gal. 5:16-25 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. The Spirit produces fruit that reflects Christ's character: Love Joy Peace Patience Kindness Goodness Faithfulness Gentleness Self-Control The transformation is internal before it becomes external It's more than behavioral modification. Only the Spirit reshapes desires and character We go from controlling behavior to cultivating dependence. The Holy Spirit Empowers for Daily Living Acts 1:8 “8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”” The Spirit empowers believers for: Witness Obedience Boldness Mission The Christian life is not sustained by willpower but by divine power. Without the Spirit: Obedience becomes exhausting Witness becomes intimidating Growth becomes frustrating With the Spirit: Strength is supplied Courage increases Faith becomes active We are not called to try harder, but to depend more deeply. Closing Thoughts: The Holy Spirit: Is a personal divine presence Gives new spiritual life Indwells every believer Produces Christlike character Empowers daily living and mission The Christian life is lived with God through the Spirit's power Questions: Do I relate to the Holy Spirit as a Person or treat Him like a concept? Where am I relying on effort instead of the Spirit's power? What evidence of the Spirit's fruit is growing in my life? Am I aware of God's presence in my daily routines? Where might the Spirit be prompting me that I have been resisting?
What does it actually mean to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit? In this episode, Andrew sits down with Pastor David Hall, senior pastor of Revival City Church in Adelaide, for a rich conversation on the anointing and Spirit-filled ministry. David unpacks the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, what it means to carry the anointing, and why prayer and worship are non-negotiable for anyone in ministry. Drawing on decades of experience, he offers practical wisdom for believers who want to go deeper in the things of the Spirit. This one will stir your hunger for more of God.Connect with Andrew Staggs:https://linktr.ee/andrewstaggshttps://www.instagram.com/andrewstaggsProduced & edited by StoryRocket
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NLT) The Holy Spirit dwells within every believer. He bears witness with us that we are children of God. He seals us. Jesus’ disciples experienced His indwelling. When Jesus appeared to His followers after His resurrection, “He breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’” (John 20:22 NLT). So, when Jesus spoke to them again in Acts 1:8, He wasn’t talking about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He was talking about something different. The Greek word dunamis, which is translated as power in Acts 1:8, has an interesting history. In 1867, a chemist and inventor named Alfred Nobel discovered a power greater than anything the world had known before. It was an explosive element that he created in a laboratory. Looking for a name for his invention, Nobel consulted a friend who was a Greek scholar. By changing a few letters in dunamis, the Greek word for explosive power, Nobel came up with the word dynamite. That’s the idea that Jesus conveyed in Acts 1:8. He was saying to His disciples, “You will receive explosive dynamite power when the Spirit has come upon you.” The power to be a witness. The power to share your faith. The power to speak up and be counted. The power to turn your world upside down. The power of the Holy Spirit transformed the lives of first-century believers. Prior to receiving it, the apostle Peter couldn’t stand up for his faith when strangers asked him if he was a follower of Jesus. After he received it, Peter boldly preached the gospel to a crowd of thousands. Prior to receiving the Holy Spirit’s power, the apostle Paul was an enemy of the Christian faith. After receiving it, he became one of its greatest champions. The same power is available to us today. The power to be a witness. The power to boldly approach someone you don’t know and tell them about Jesus Christ. The power to lovingly confront someone about their sin. The power to initiate a life-changing conversation. The power to tell people about what Jesus has done for you. My question to you is this: Do you have this power in your life right now? Has your prayer life become dry and one-dimensional? Do you feel less than engaged with God’s Word? Do you feel as though there’s something lacking in your spiritual walk? Are you stricken with fear at the very idea of sharing your faith? If so, then you, my friend, are a candidate for the empowering of the Holy Spirit. All you have to do is pray. Ask God to empower you with His Spirit. Ask Him to help you feel the Spirit’s presence in your life, guiding and encouraging you to grow and share your faith in ways that transform the world around you. We have connection to God the Father, through Jesus, by the power of the Spirit. The invitation is to walk with Jesus not because of a set of rules but by the very nature of who God is and who we are because of Him. The Spirit empowers us to walk with Jesus.Message by Devin Burton, "The Holy Spirit Empowers Us" as part of our "Enlarging the Circle" series. Message from June 08, 2025. Centralia Community Church, Centralia, WA. cccog.com We are choosing to walk with Jesus, and on this journey we learn that we're meant to be in community. When we construct borders that keep us from God, we miss the joy of the Lord. Do we have the eyes of Christ when we see the “others” in our life? As we approach the throne in faith, we will find freedom, salvation, rest, and compassion. Let's begin enlarging the circle.

Believed to be written in the 5th century BC, Sun Tzu's, THE ART OF WAR is a military classic. I've read that it is still required reading for certain Marine programs, for Navy SEALs, and for Officer Training. It may seem “non-pastoral” to reference this, or to even admit that I've read it and it's in my Kindle library; but it has actually become a popular resource for business leaders in our generation. Principle 18 from Tzu's ancient war manual instructs student, that for any hope of success in battle, you have to know your enemy and you must know yourself. The Apostle Paul would agree with the truth of that principle. In fact, he instructs every Christ follower in “THE ART OF WAR”; but Paul's instructions are very different because his identification of our true enemy is Holy Spirit revealed! I invite you to watch or listen to this message, as the Apostle Paul shows us how the HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS US FOR THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES! Pastor Joe Still

A few years ago I revisited a book my Dad wrote 20+ years ago, re-drafted it, and then re-published it. In the process I learned a TON about the subject of the book, spiritual gifts. Along the way, I discovered some “good news” and I stumbled into some “bad news.”
