Although there was some improvement in the Midrand system later that week, another power failure at the Palmiet Pump Station on 31 January caused further strain. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 20th of August, 2025 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Luke 17:17-18:”So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” I want to say to you this morning, don't forget to say, ”Thank You.” That's all we've got to say, ”Thank You.” Jesus healed ten lepers. Only one out of the ten came back to say, ”Thank You”, and he wasn't even a Jew. He was a foreigner. What about you and I today?I remember many, many years ago, going to a beautiful church in Midrand in Johannesburg. As I walked into the doors of that church, there was a big neon sign up in the front of the church which said, “Missionary work is gratitude for Calvary.” That has stuck with me all these years. I'm talking maybe over 30 years ago. People go to the mission field because they want to say “thank You” to Jesus for what he has done in their lives. It is so sad when a man gets despondent when he says, ”I've done all this work for these people and not one of them appreciates it.” If you are doing it for Jesus, your reward will be from Him. : ”And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”Matthew 25:40That is why we go to the mission field. That is why we are determined to tell people about Jesus Christ, because we are not doing it even for the people, we are doing it for Him, because He told us to go into all the world and to preach the Gospel to every creature. When I fell in love with the Lord Jesus Christ, on the 18th of February, 1979, I could not contain myself. I wanted everyone to have the peace, the joy and the love in their hearts that I had, and that is why I would do the most outrageous things when I look back on it. It wasn't for any self-gain at all. It was just my way of saying, ”Thank You Jesus, for healing me, for setting me free, for giving me new life.” He says, ”Every time you do it to somebody who can't give you anything back, you are doing it for Me.”Now, today, let us not be like the nine who just went away and forgot to say thank You to the Master. Let us be like that one foreigner who came all the way back and said, ”Lord, thank You for healing me.”Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Drawing from Romans 13:1–2 and Acts 4:19–20, this sermon reminds us that no earthly authority exists without God's permission—and that believers are called to honor God even when civil authorities oppose the gospel.

Hello to you listening in Midrand, South Africa!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. For over 4 years now two really smart, savvy, and creative friend/colleagues and I have spent a weekly 90 minutes in a wonderfully supportive, encouraging, questioning, critiquing, hot seating, provocative, and  brainstorming MasterMind group. Before we get together we exchange our 4Rs from the prior week: Result, Reach, Resistance, Resource.Ah, Resistance! Thy name is Fear. Making a move is a step we often don't want to take because we feel afraid, bored, uncertain, anxious, tired, or just plain disgusted. It's true that when the way ahead is unclear, Time can be the best guide. But it's also true that we might begin by taking the first step, the one right in front of us, the one close in as poet David Whyte reminds us in his poem, Start Close In. Maybe like me you are learning that the sooner you face up to your Resistance and take that first step toward your task or project the more confident you'll feel making progress and then asking yourself, “What took me so long?”Story Prompt: Remember a time when you faced your Resistance and despite your fear boldly took that next step, and the next, and the one after that until ...  What happened next? Write that story! You're always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe and spread the word with a generous 5-star review and comment - it helps us all - and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Get in touch with me today to arrange your no-sales Discovery Chat, and✓ Stay current with Diane on as “Wyzga on Words” on Substack and on LinkedInStories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer's Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts.
