Several communities across Gauteng say they are still battling with crippling water cuts and shortages, despite numerous government interventions over the past few years. Severely affected areas include Midrand, Melville, Selby, Sedibeng and Hammanskraal, amongst others. Water experts say ongoing water issues in the province can be directly attributed to a combination of ageing infrastructure and the lack of planning for the growing population of the province. Intermittent water supply in Midrand, Johannesburg has left some schools in the area grappling with sanitation challenges, increased staff and learner absenteeism and disrupted classroom activities. The water shortage in Johannesburg, especially in Midrand, has entered its seventh day, leaving thousands without running water. As local elections approach, RISE Mzansi says the crisis must be addressed at the ballot box. The party is urging residents to vote for new leadership in the upcoming local government elections to address the ongoing water challenges. Elvis Presslin spoke to RISE Mzansi National Chairperson and Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa

We spoke to Mr Gugulethu Quma, Manager of Electro-Mechanical, about the ongoing water supply issues affecting parts of Joburg. He explained that the problems started on 27 January with a power failure at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch treatment plant, which hit supply while pumping was already reduced due to emergency valve work at Palmiet. Although there was some improvement in the Midrand system later that week, another power failure at the Palmiet Pump Station on 31 January caused further strain. On top of that, a leak at the Klipfontein Reservoir was detected, with repairs underway, while reservoir levels are slowly recovering but still critically low. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 20th of August, 2025 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Luke 17:17-18:”So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” I want to say to you this morning, don't forget to say, ”Thank You.” That's all we've got to say, ”Thank You.” Jesus healed ten lepers. Only one out of the ten came back to say, ”Thank You”, and he wasn't even a Jew. He was a foreigner. What about you and I today?I remember many, many years ago, going to a beautiful church in Midrand in Johannesburg. As I walked into the doors of that church, there was a big neon sign up in the front of the church which said, “Missionary work is gratitude for Calvary.” That has stuck with me all these years. I'm talking maybe over 30 years ago. People go to the mission field because they want to say “thank You” to Jesus for what he has done in their lives. It is so sad when a man gets despondent when he says, ”I've done all this work for these people and not one of them appreciates it.” If you are doing it for Jesus, your reward will be from Him. : ”And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”Matthew 25:40That is why we go to the mission field. That is why we are determined to tell people about Jesus Christ, because we are not doing it even for the people, we are doing it for Him, because He told us to go into all the world and to preach the Gospel to every creature. When I fell in love with the Lord Jesus Christ, on the 18th of February, 1979, I could not contain myself. I wanted everyone to have the peace, the joy and the love in their hearts that I had, and that is why I would do the most outrageous things when I look back on it. It wasn't for any self-gain at all. It was just my way of saying, ”Thank You Jesus, for healing me, for setting me free, for giving me new life.” He says, ”Every time you do it to somebody who can't give you anything back, you are doing it for Me.”Now, today, let us not be like the nine who just went away and forgot to say thank You to the Master. Let us be like that one foreigner who came all the way back and said, ”Lord, thank You for healing me.”Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has denied owning a multimillion-rand Constantia mansion, saying the property belongs to his son-in-law and is privately owned. This comes after he listed two luxury homes in Constantia and Midrand in Parliament's latest Register of Members' Interests, raising eyebrows nationwide. The properties, valued at a combined R65 million, have reignited public concern over transparency and wealth among politicians. Mashatile, who earns just over R3 million annually, insists there's nothing untoward. Johannesburg Public Safety MMC, Mgcini Tshwaku is leading a Crime Prevention and Bylaw Enforcement operation in Midrand, North of Johannesburg. This includes search and seizure raids together with the search and seizure of hijacked buildings. Tshwaku also intends on checking spaza shop compliance and the cleaning illegal dumping sites. Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa says a review of the White Paper on Local Government must address the critical issue of adequate funding for municipalities. Minister Hlabisa was speaking at a high-level dialogue in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, yesterday. Representatives from political parties convened talks centred on professionalising local government administration, reforming structures and systems, strengthening accountability and examining the roles of coalitions and traditional leadership. Former MK Party Secretary General Floyd Shivhambu has clarified reasons for his removal from the position. He says it was informed by a fake intelligence report which said he was intending to overthrow former President Jacob Zuma as party leader. Shivambu addressed the media in Midrand north of Johannesburg.
