The Chinese Communist Party has shown again and again, most recently through its zero covid policy, that human life is not a big consideration when it comes to making policy decisions. So when Chinese leader Xi Jinping talks about uniting with Taiwan, by force if necessary, it's not just the Taiwanese people who will suffer. China will likely won't spare tje lives of its own people in attaining that goal. In this episode of China Unscripted, we discuss China's goal of spreading socialism globally, China's three Pearl Harbor moments, and the shortsightedness of Blinken's trip to China. Joining us in this episode is Ian Easton, senior director of the Project 2049 Institute and author of the new book, The Final Struggle: Inside China's Global Strategy.
Author of The Final Struggle, Ian Easton, sits down for a long chat with Eryk about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It's remarkable how close to extinction the CPP came, not once, but thrice. This is a story of spies and counterspies, moles and defectors, violence, treachery and death. Listen to Ian Easton's case on how much we've underestimated the CCP, and how democratic governments, international institutions... and people of all freedom-loving societies, need to "wake up" to the reality of what the CCP is: an authoritarian near-superpower wedded to a fanatic Marxism/Leninism ideology that seeks a new world order, controlled, of course, by a modern emperor in Beijing.

For example, the idea of constructing “A Community of Common Destiny for all Mankind.” U.S. policies toward China and how previous administrations have and have not recognized threats from the PRC How TikTok poses a direct threat to U.S. national security China's social credit system which uses big data analytics and mass surveillance How China uses predatory economic policies to its benefit while hurting the U.S. Biography: Ian Easton is a Senior Director at the Project 2049 Institute, where he studies defense and security issues involving the People's Republic of China. Once an economically-deprived police state as recently as 1987, Taiwan has become one of the most significant economic wonders in East Asia. But the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has threatened Taiwan's independence for decades and has already embarked on an international campaign to coerce countries into giving into the CCP ideology. What could be the Chinese global strategy and vision in 2049, 100 years after Mao declared the founding of the People's Republic of China? Ian Easton, a senior director at the Project 2049 Institute, shares the importance of U.S.-Taiwan relations and key elements of China's global strategy. He also previews his newest book The Final Struggle: Inside China's Global Strategy that details some of the most egregious worldwide actions of the CCP.Check out Ian's book on Amazon!NEW! What are the chances that China invades Taiwan? Do they plan on doing invading soon? If so, how would they do it? My guest is Ian Easton, the author of The Chinese Invasion Threat. In the interview, we talk at length about the possibility of a Chinese invasion. Ian is well-versed in the issue having spent many years living and studying in Taiwan. He possesses a wealth of knowledge. In his book, he dives deep into the details of what an invasion would look like. Among the many topics we cover are the following: The nature of Taiwan’s democratic government and advanced economy The Chinese Civil War between the Communists and Nationalists that caused the current day split How America’s diplomatic relations toward Taiwan evolved throughout the Cold War How equipped and ready is Taiwan to defend itself from an invasion The many domains in which China is seeking to lay the groundwork for an invasion Why an invasion is extremely difficult, and lessons learned from World War II How China under Xi Jinping was able to become militarily more dominant than Taiwan This is an important topic which Ian describes as one of the most consequential foreign policy issues facing the United States. It is a must read for military and defense members wanting to get more familiar with the dynamics of the Indo-Pacific theater. In Episode 157 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Ian Easton, Senior Director at the Project 2049 Institute and author of "The Chinese Invasion Threat” about the likelihood and consequences of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. The Taiwan Strait is one of the most dangerous flashpoints on earth and the island of Taiwan sits right in the middle of one of the busiest maritime sea and air routes in the world. It is situated at the very center of what is known as the first island chain, stretching from as far south as Vietnam and Indonesia, all the way up through the Philippines and north of Japan, giving it unique strategic and commercial significance as a gateway to the pacific. In this two-hour long conversation, Ian provides us with an extraordinary overview of the island’s history, its strategic, commercial, and political significance, and what an invasion of Taiwan would mean for the United States, its allies, and the world.
