"Chip Shearin is one of the most well rounded musicians in the world. He's a top tier bassist who has worked with artists including Donald Byrd, Marion Meadows, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, and many more. He produces commercial music for advertisements, television shows, and even composes film music. Millions have heard his playing in one form or another, but many will instantly recognize his playing on the Sugarhill Gang's “Rapper's Delight.” Shearin was just a teenager when he recorded the track, which he admits he has a love-hate relationship with. After helping so many stars develop their albums and live shows, Shearin has released his debut solo album, How I Live, on Innervision Records. The 12-song release collects several of the bassist's original tunes with some memorable takes on his favorite classic songs like “Stretchin' Out” by Bootsy Collins, “Who Is He” by Bill Withers, and the Meters tune “Cissy Strut.” Shearin has also been keeping busy on the bass with fellow 4-stringer Ethan Farmer. The duo created a band called The Avengers, which has played a string of shows last year with more tour dates in the works. Shearin splits his time between Los Angeles and North Carolina, where he grew up. Twenty-two year old bassist Blair Bryant returns with his first full length album and debut for Innervision Records, titled Gold, a dynamic start to a joyously melodic and grooving journey by an artist whose vibe and multitude of talents as a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist has earned acclaim and heavy predictions of success by rock, blues, R&B and contemporary jazz greats like Keb’ Mo, Jimmy Jam, Nick Colionne and new label mate Blake Aaron.  The Kansas City based Bryant laid a powerful foundation for Gold with his breakthrough 2015 EP New Colours, whose track “Lightning Bug” hit the Top Ten on the Groove Jazz chart and received acclaim as one of the genre’s Top Ten new CDs that year. Bryant is a true musical prodigy counting among his influences on the bass the late Wayman Tisdale, Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller.  A fierce bassist whose arsenal includes the upright double bass, electric standard and fretless basses, Bryant, the consummate musician also plays guitar, drums, percussion, keyboards and vibraphone.  Bryant, who co-produced Gold with his father and manager Damon, plays a wide variety of instruments on the 11 track collection, and his piano solos are as explosive and dazzling as his lead bass lines and improvisations. Urban Jazz Flutist Kim Scott brings the fire on debut for Innervision Records titled “Southern Heat” the Alabama based artist’s new cd features the current hit single “Sizzle.”  Well known for her unique, hauntingly beautiful tone, Kim amps things up considerably on the new collection which includes wild, infectious re-imaginings of R&B classics like MJ’s “Billie Jean” and Lakeside’s otherworldly “Fantastic Voyage,” and a fiery Latin jam of Martha Munizzi’s gospel hit “Glorious.”  It also features a batch of soulful, inspiring originals (all co-penned by Kim) that showcase her virtuosity as a flutist and increasing presence as a lead vocalist.  Among these are the elegant, spiritual minded ballad “Forgiveness,” the exotic, deep bass slow-jam “Two Become One” and the trippy and edgy trance-soul tune “What You Stank about This?”  The set closes with a “Stank Remix” of that last song called “Groove with Me” that comes alive with Stephen Strickland’s rap and instruction on some new hip-hop dance steps created by Kim.   Follow Kim Scott on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

(16 March 2014): Guitarist Blake Aaron utilized an unconventional approach when constructing his fifth album, “Soul Stories,” which will be released May 5 by Innervision Records. To maintain his presence on radio and in the marketplace while juggling a busy schedule as a first-call session player, featured sideman and in-demand producer, he issued a variety of singles with three cuts – the retro funk-disco energizer “Groove-O-Matic,” the urbane romantic duet with jazz crooner Spencer Day entitled “You're the One for Me” and the salsa-singed “Encantadora” featuring Najee on flute - entering the Billboard Top 10. The ten-track “Soul Stories,” Aaron's first collection that is entirely self-produced, contains eight original tunes authored by the artist.      Saluting one of his hallmark influences, Aaron embodies seminal jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery on the aptly-titled “Wes Side Story,” an evocative selection that will be serviced to radio stations for playlist adds beginning April 6. Weaving engaging narratives told through a triad of guitar voices, Aaron's “Soul Stories” unfolds amidst a varied backdrop of contemporary jazz, R&B, Latin and funk settings.
