Tonight's VIP is Mr. Chris Miskel, CEO of KENDRE Music Group. Chris is naturally gifted to do what he loves. He said he has never taken formal lessons and has gained the majority of his inspiration from mentors, Oscar Seaton Jr. and Khari Parker. He has admiration for Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Dave Weckl. In 2003, Chris began touring with guitarist Nick Colionne and in late 2006, with smooth jazz artist Brian Culbertson during his Soulful Christmas tour. He is currently touring with Brian Culbertson and Will Downing but has performed with a variety of artists. By playing with many musicians, Chris has acquired the ability to play the drums in multiple styles and genres of music. He believes adapting to various musical situations is essential to being a well-rounded musician. When Chris is home between tours, he continues strengthening his drumming techniques, solos, and improvisation by performing in local clubs and participating in jam sessions. According to Chris, "The vibe you receive from playing in local clubs allows you to stretch out and just play! Playing what I feel and being able to transcend my vibe to the fans and get a reaction from them is what makes my job wonderful". One quote he stands by is “If u do what you've always done you"ll get what you've always gotten.” #ChrisMiskel #drummer #jazz #rnb #music #BrianCulbertson #TiffanyRochelle #thepeoplescheerleader #HearMyHeart #chicago #WillDowning, #producerlife #musicdirector #bYou #LifeCoach #Success #Life #Encouragement #podcast #talkShow #Coach #GrowthMindset #Author #LifePurpose #mindset #motivation #inspiration #youtube #applepodcast #Spotify

Léo Gandelman, Djavan, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Cazuza, Caetano Veloso o Marina Lima. Time travel, one of mankind's fervent desires. We do it here: we travel back in time to remember great Smooth Jazz hits that are already iconic. Tracks that remain in our memory but that we didn't remember. We refresh you musically. Headphones, sofa and 60 minutes of your time... that's all we ask of you. We go from the impressive Hardcastle - yes, the one from that 19th that we still remember - to the late Nick Colionne who left us in January this year. Let's go to the Minucci of the best times and let's go to impressive songs by the Acoustic Alchemy, a band that was born and grew up in the shadow of the acoustic guitars of Simon James and Nick Webb. The Rippingtones - the American Smooth jazz and Crossover jazz band, formed in 1986 by guitarist Russ Freeman -, Bob Baldwin - creator and king of Urban Jazz - or the great Torcuato Mariano, the master born in Argentina, and settled in the land of Pelé, who now also has a voice in The Voice Brazil, could not be missing from all this. He accompanied the greats... The Rosé Hour Podcast

Hey There, Friends! This week we chat with our new cousin Marcus Johnson, an independent Billboard-ranked musician, NAACP Image Award nominee, owner of FLO Brands and FLO Wine, JD and MBA, philanthropist, father, friend... and so much more! What is FLO (For the Love Of)? It represents the journey through which we discover those things in life that fulfill us and make each experience a little better. For the love of life, self, happiness, passion, joy…love itself. While pursuing his JD and MBA at Georgetown, he independently produced and distributed his first CD (Lessons in Love), which sold more than 40,000 units; a phenomenal success for an unknown independent artist's debut release. This album helped him launch his career as a renowned jazz keyboardist/pianist, and later, he released his second CD (Inter Alia), with staggering success This success caught the attention of Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder and businessman Robert L. Johnson, who invested and partnered with Marcus to establish Marimelj Entertainment Group. Under their partnership, MEG's label Three Keys Music housed Studio 8121, a full-service recording studio, and two music publishing companies: Marimelj Music Publishing and Three Keys Music Publishing. As head of Three Keys Music, Johnson produced and released on the Three Keys Music label national jazz artists: Michael Lington, Jaared Arosemena, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, R&B singer, Alyson Williams, neo-soul songstress, Zahzarah; and smooth jazz Saxophonists Phillip Martin and Brian Lenair. To date, Marcus has released more than fifteen Billboard charted CDs, and has the distinction of having his groundbreaking 2008 Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz FLO (For the Love Of) Anthology, which consisted of three distinct CDs -- FLO Chill, FLO Romance and FLO Standards - all chart Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts simultaneously. The release of Poetically Justified (2009) and This is How I Rock (2011), which were Top 20 Contemporary Jazz CDs, solidified Marcus Johnson as the heir apparent to the funky urban groove music style and sound made famous by legendary jazz greats, George Duke and Herbie Hancock. FLO Wines FLO {for the love of...} represents the journey through which we discover those things in life that fulfill us and make each experience a little better; for the love of life, self, happiness, passion, joy…love itself. FLO Wine is but one expression. Named a top 10 Celebrity Wine by USA Today. Marcus Johnson's Sips & Sounds are uniquely curated tasting experiences featuring sips from Flo Wine; varietals Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and our new Rosé, and Jazz sounds by Marcus Johnson with a special music set customized to the region/location we're in. The Sips + Sounds tasting experience strives to go “Behind the Apron” with collaborations highlighting diverse/minority-owned catering companies and/ or chefs that create exclusive culinary pairings with Flo Wine. ROSÉ The Rosé gives bright, floral aromas of lilac and rose petal with flavors of fresh strawberry and raspberry on the palate. It is light in body with refreshing acidity and a crisp, clean finish. CHARDONNAY The Chardonnay uses minimal oak, allowing the bright fruit to take center stage. Well-balanced, it offers Lemon and citrus notes with a hint of green apple. Flavors of tropical fruit, baked fig and vanilla with buttery overtones on the finish. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/therosehourpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therosehourpodcast/support

Host Carl Brown talks with Nick Colionne who's the only artist in Smooth Jazz with 5 consecutive Billboard #1 hits from the same album. He's been playing professionally since he was 14 and Carl affectionately describes him as “the best dressed man in all of music”.Nick spends a lot of time volunteering his time hanging out with kids to help guide them through their lives. Carl and Nick emphasize the importance of giving back, being part of the community, and making a difference in the lives of young people. Nick shares why he prefers to be on stage performing over recording in the studio and how he feels when he hears his songs on the radio. His 11th album, Finger Painting, came out in 2020 and his new release, Just Like That, will be released in Spring 2022.Find out what Nick thinks about “Cribs” in the Bout It or Doubt It segment, and his top three albums of all time. Highlights:04:11 I basically play from the heart. I feel like if I play from the heart, I'll touch somebody's heart and that's better than touching their ears because if it goes in one ear, then it's out the other one. 07:38 I see music in colors. When you're creating music, you're painting a picture for people to see. So, I figured I'm painting a picture with my fingers, so, Finger Painting.16:01 Things are opening up, and hopefully they'll keep opening up if people do what they're supposed to do to keep themselves and the rest of us safe. 16:53 I have the same feeling every time I hear one of my songs on the radio. The radio will be down really low and I'll hear it in the background, and like, whoa, that's me. And I'll get that same silly smile on my face every time. 21:11 I believe that most young people are inherently good, and if they get a chance to see possibilities, then that can change their lives. (January 1, 2022) / Written by: Chris Rizik of soultracks.com  He has been an artist's artist, and one of the most revered musician of the past two decades. Tonight we say a sad goodbye to guitarist and vocalist Nick Colionne, who reportedly died in his sleep early this morning. The Chicago native began playing guitar as a pre-teen, and by his mid-teens was known as a rising star around town. As a high schooler, he was already recording with such luminaries as Curtis Mayfield and The Staple Singers. Colionne began recording solo in the mid-90s, and by the turn of the century, he established himself as one of the brightest young stars on the jazz scene. His hit “High Flyin'” was the foundation of his 2003 breakout album Just Come In and began a string of hit songs and popular albums such as Keepin' It Cool, No Limits, Influences, and his most recent disc, Finger Painting. A commercial and critical favorite, Colionne was known for his dapper attire that made him a familiar sight at jazz cruises and festivals. He was also known for his community service in the Chicago area, particularly in mentoring students at St. Laurence K-8 School in Elgin, Illinois. His varied community work was recognized when he won the Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award in 2010. The sudden loss of this great artist and humanitarian is an awful way to start 2022. We will be praying for his family, even as we reflect on his great contributions. Rest in peace, Nick. By Chris Rizik

In this episode we speak with Marcus Johnson.  Marcus is an independent Billboard-ranked musician and NAACP Image Award-nominated jazz keyboardist and pianist. He is also the CEO and Founder of Flo Brands, LLC and more recently Flo Wine, LLC. Marcus has combined an eminently successful musical career with his love of wine by marrying the two in a unique endeavor.   Over the last decade, Marcus Johnson has released 15 successful studio albums.  On Pandora, Marcus receives 5.1 million spins per year with 2,000 new stations added each month, and his music receives a 74% “thumbs ups” rating verses an average of 56%.  Johnson is the owner of a music label, Three Keys Music, and has emerged as one of the young lions of the “DIY” music world.  His unique self-taught style of piano play has earned him distinction among his peers, praise from the media and accolades across the music industry.  Marcus is on the cutting edge of ‘Euro Jazz' having formed JURIS, a musical collaboration with acclaimed Parisian DJ and producer Young Pulse. The duo quickly developed a name within the international music community, enjoying large-scale performances and preparing a Q3 release of their latest project entitled “Eiffel Tower.” Johnson's FLO Brands, LLC,tm is aptly titledFor the Love Of ; LLC. ™ FLO began as a musical publishing, production, and lifestyle branding company to house all of Johnson's musical and entrepreneurial ventures.  However the scope and reach of the company has expanded delving into winemaking, sourcing grapes and production in California.  FLO Brands launched FLO Wines, LLC in March 2012.  FLO Wine is capturing the taste buds of wine-lovers from California to South Carolina. To date retail partners  in various states include Costco, Wal-Mart, Target, Whole Foods, Giant, Harris Teeter, Renaissance Hotels, Kroger, Aloft Hotels, Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, Farm Fresh, and Total Wine. In 1995 during this demanding period at Georgetown, he also decided to independently produce and distribute his first jazz album, Lessons in Love, which sold more than 40,000 units, a major success for an unknown independent artist's debut release.  One year later, he releasedInter Alia, with great acclaim. These two albums led to Johnson signing with N2K Encoded Music with whom he released several CDs until the label was sold in 1998. Johnson's success caught the attention of Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder and businessman Robert L. Johnson who invested in Marcus and his newfound company, Marimelj Entertainment Group (MEG).  Under their partnership, MEG's label, Three Keys Music based in the Washington, DC metro area, established its own full service recording studio, Studio 8121; and two music publishing companies, Marimelj Music Publishing and Three Keys Music Publishing.  Marcus was responsible for releasing and producing CDs on the Three Keys label for national jazz artists Michael Lington, Jaared Arosemena, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, R&B singer, Alyson Williams and neo-soul songstress Yahzarah and smooth jazz Saxophonists Phillip Martin and Brian Lenair.  While producing music for the aforementioned artists, Marcus also released several critically acclaimed albums:Inter Alia,Chocolate CityGroovin';Coming Back Around;Urban Groove,In Person: Live at Blues Alley,Just Doing What I Do,Smooth Jazz Christmas andIn Concert for a Cause, all charting at Top 20 or more on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Charts.  Marcus has released 15 Billboard-charted CDs. He has the distinction of having his groundbreaking 2008 Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz FLO (For the Love Of) CDs which consisted of three distinct albums: FLO Chill,FLO Romance andFLO Standards ,  all charting Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts simultaneously.  Johnson's previous solo 2007 release, The Phoenix, was widely lauded by jazz critics and aficionados alike and like Johnson's previous CDs, it peaked in the Top 20 of Billboard's Contemporary Jazz charts. Johnson's next Top 20 Contemporary jazz releases, the unique and multi-facetedPoetically Justified (2009) andThis Is How I Rock (2011) solidified Marcus Johnson as heir apparent to the George Duke and Herbie Hancock style of funky urban groove music.  Creatively, Johnson continues to evolve as an artist. With the release of his 2012FLO: Holiday  CD and the ongoing collaboration with famed Parisian Producer DJ Pulse – as the musical duo “Juris” – he has managed to maintain his traditional jazz roots, while also remaining on the forefront of the expanding “Euro Jazz” movement. His music continues to enforce and define his musical legacy as a “jazz movement for all people”.    Johnson is also evolving as an innovative wine expert. He resides in the Metropolitan Washington area and is a new father. Nick Colionne is one of the most dynamic smooth jazz guitarists on the scene today.  Nick's career launched into overdrive with his 1994 album, "It's My Turn."  Since then, he's perfected his high-energy showmanship and easy flowing guitar licks.  In 2007 Nick was named, by the Wave Jazz Awards, "International Instrumental Artist of the Year" and in 2010 he was nominated as "Guitarist of the Year" and "Entertainer of the Year" by the American Smooth Jazz Awards.  In this November 2016 interview,  with New Music Magazine's 2017 Program Director of the Year - Ray White, Nick talks about his latest album, "The Journey."  It's received worldwide accolades and has kept him at the top of the charts.  Our shows' "Hostess with the Mostest," Lisa Davis, provides additional insights into Nick and his music and adds more in our "Spotlight" segment featuring R&B/Soul vocalist Phil Perry. Rebrodcast: Featured Guest: David P. Stevens Multi-talented artist, composer, producer, and versatile musician, Stevens grew up playing piano, drums and guitar at the Church of God, developing a dynamic performance style playing gospel music. He spent his teens playing in jazz and gospel bands, and developed sound and stage presence like one of his idols, Norman Brown, when he later emerged as an urban jazz artist. As his fan base grew with his early album releases, Stevens went from playing "any dive bar where they allowed jazz in Philly" to top clubs like North By Northwest, Warm Daddy's and Relish. He and his band also played at various clubs down in Maryland, as well as the Woodrow Wilson Festival and the iconic Blues Alley club in Washington, DC. Stevens has also performed at The Harlem Meer Festival, at The Iridium in NYC with Alex Bugnon, and the Jazz Base in Reading, PA. Over the past two years, he also did a full European tour through Austria, Switzerland and Germany. In addition to playing on the Capital Jazz SuperCruise, he has been part of the All-Star Jam Festival at Berks Jazz Fest the past three years, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Gerald Albright, Nick Colionne and Scott Ambush from Spyro Gyra.“One of the things I'm known for live is bringing a lot of energy to the stage and incorporating many exciting elements, including background singers," Stevens says

Come "Enjoy The Ride" with Paula Atherton.  Her new cd features guitarist Nick Colionne, trumpeter Cindy Bradley and more.  Ronald Jackson from The Smooth Jazz Ride said: "To say that Paula Atherton has the right formula for success as a competent force to reckon with in smooth jazz would obviously be an understatement. If her previous releases — including "Groove With Me," her last release before this project—haven't brought you on board yet, hop on this groove vehicle. You're truly bound to Enjoy The Ride." – Ronald Jackson
