In a surprise move that instantly reshapes the league's historical narrative, the National Football League last month announced it will now officially incorporate statistics from the upstart All-America Football Conference (AAFC), the short-lived but impactful rival professional football league that operated from 1946 to 1949. The decision brings long-overdue recognition to the achievements of several prominent players from the mid-20th century and results in the revision of several long-standing records in the NFL's official record books. Renowned early pro football historian Ken Crippen ("The All-America Football Conference: Players, Coaches, Records, Games and Awards" and "The Original Buffalo Bills: A History of the All-America Football Conference Team") returns to the show (after a seven-year absence) to help us break down the NFL owners' decision to finally recognize the AAFC, as well as the historical significance of the move - which further burnishes the statistical legacies of star players like Y.A. Tittle (Baltimore Colts), Mac Speedie and Otto Graham (Cleveland Browns); Cleveland's iconic Paul Brown; and, most obviously the original Browns franchise - the only league champion the AAFC ever knew. Plus, the bizarre story of how the original AAFC statistical records were providentially rescued from a New York City dumpster shortly after the announcement of the merger with the NFL in 1949! + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old Fort Baseball Co. Dive deep into the Cincinnati Bengals' philosophy and strategy heading into the crucial 2025 NFL Draft. As April arrives, so does the anticipation for how the Bengals will build upon their foundation. This video explores the enduring principle established by team founder Paul Brown: Draft, Develop, Retain. This core tenet remains the bedrock of the Bengals' approach to team building, aiming for sustained success rather than quick fixes. We examine recent proof of this philosophy in action, highlighting the extensions and mega-deals for cornerstone players like Joe Burrow (2020 1st pick), Tee Higgins (2020 2nd round pick), and Ja'Marr Chase (2021 1st pick). These moves underscore the commitment to identifying talent in the draft, nurturing its growth within the Bengals' system, and ultimately securing those players for the long term. The discussion extends to the Bengals' recent free agency moves, where 13 out of 17 initial signings were their own players they opted to retain. This further emphasizes their dedication to keeping homegrown talent like Mike Gesicki, BJ Hill, Tanner Hudson, Joseph Ossai, and Cam Sample while strategically adding external pieces. This strategy has not only built continuity but also contributed to making Cincinnati an increasingly attractive destination for free agents seeking a successful and stable environment. A significant portion of the video delves into the unique structure of the Bengals' draft evaluation process, another legacy of Paul Brown. Learn how the coaching staff is deeply integrated, acting as extensions of the scouting department. Position coaches meticulously break down film and study tape, project players' fits into the Bengals' specific offensive and defensive schemes, and actively participate in interviews and visits. Discover the potential "secret weapon" the Bengals possess this year with Defensive Coordinator Al Golden. His recent experience coaching at Notre Dame provides invaluable insight into Fighting Irish prospects like Howard Cross, Jack Kiser, Xavier Watts, and Benjamin Morrison. Beyond just Notre Dame players, Golden's recent immersion in the college game means he's prepared defensive game plans against a wide array of top college offenses and prospects nationwide, giving the Bengals an extra layer of evaluation depth. This insight, combined with the college coaching backgrounds of other staff members (OL, DL, LB coaches), creates a robust evaluation team. The video emphasizes why this draft aligns perfectly with the Bengals' pressing needs. Experts widely regard the 2025 draft class as exceptionally deep along the interior offensive and defensive lines – precisely where Cincinnati needs reinforcement to compete effectively, especially within the physical AFC North. We identify and analyze several potential draft targets who could bolster the trenches: Offensive Line: Names like Kelvin Banks (Texas), Will Campbell (LSU), Josh Conerly (Oregon), Marcus Minor (Purdue), Jonah Savaiinaea (Arizona), and Gray Zabel (NDSU) are discussed, with a strong emphasis on the crucial trait of position versatility. The ability of a lineman to play both tackle and guard or multiple interior spots is highly valued in today's NFL. Defensive Line: Explore prospects suited for the interior, like Notre Dame's Howard Cross, Michigan's powerful duo of Mason Graham and the exceptionally athletic Kenneth Grant, Oklahoma's long-armed Derek Harmon, Kentucky's massive Deone Walker, and Ohio State's Tyleik Williams. The need for stout run defenders and interior pass rush is paramount. Edge Rushers: This section briefly touches upon high-upside edge players like Abdul Carter (Penn State), James Pearce Jr. (Tennessee), and Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M), acknowledging the Bengals' potential interest if top talent slides. Ultimately, the Bengals' draft strategy involves identifying the best available athlete who fits their culture and scheme, particularly when top talent unexpectedly falls. While needs on the offensive and defensive lines are clear, the Bengals won't hesitate to add value at other positions. This draft presents a massive opportunity to solidify the lines, protect Joe Burrow, improve the run defense, and maximize their championship window by adhering to their time-tested "Draft, Develop, Retain" philosophy. In this powerful episode of It's Always Personal in Philadelphia, I sit down with Jerel Crew, the founder of That Gun Talk, an African-American gun club dedicated to educating and empowering Black communities through firearm ownership and safety. We dive deep into the history of Black gun ownership, the systemic forces that have historically worked against it, and why it's more critical than ever for Black Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Jarrell breaks down the importance of responsible gun ownership, the urgency of firearm training, and why self-defense isn't just a right—it's a necessity. We also discuss the uncomfortable truth: the institutions we fund, designed to protect and serve us, often fail to do so. That reality makes it even more vital for our communities to take protection into our own hands—with education, preparation, and legal gun ownership. This is not just a conversation about guns—it's about empowerment, safety, and survival. In this episode of On Mission, Dr. Matt Davis gets to know 2010 graduate and MBU's new assistant athletic director and soccer coach, Jarid Lawson. In the fourteen years since graduating college, the Lord has kept the Lawson family on the move: from student teaching and meeting his wife in Missouri, to teaching, coaching and starting a family in Arizona, to Montana to be near family for a time, to his current role at MBU. In each place, God had remarkable coaches to mentor him: Gary Garrison as a youth, Jeff Pill in college, Paul Brown and Lynn Hesuinger in Arizona. Coach Lawson and Dr. Davis find common ground over the great need for godly teachers and coaches to disciple student athletes, and discuss the connection between teaching and coaching. Coach Lawson draws his personal mission from Psalm 31:1-3, to be the kind of believer that teaches and coaches those who want to be taught and coached, multiplying the biblical character and leadership God has so graciously been molding in him.

In 1946, a new professional football league launched - The All America Football Conference (AAFC) and the strongest team created was the Cleveland Browns. It was filled with superstars and an eventual legend at coach - Paul Brown. In the backfield was another budding superstar, Marion Motley. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 232-pounds was, by today's standards, not exactly HUGE. But, in 1946, 6-foot-1, 232-pounds was very intimidating. Motley steamrolled the opposition during his playing days and led the Browns to the AAFC's first-ever Championship. But he didn't stop there. In fact, Motley was a catalyst for the Browns who also won the AAFC i1947, '48 & '49. The Browns moved to the NFL in 1950, and again, they won the championship with Motley leading the charge out of the backfield. Cleveland also played for the NFL Championship in 1951, '52 & '53, and although they lost each of those championships, Motley still was a key ingredient in helping Cleveland reach those title games. His career was shortened by knee injuries. Overall, he played eight full seasons and averaged over 5-yards a carry and scored 31 touchdowns. During that period of time, the great NFL players lined up on both sides of the line of scrimmage and Motley did so as a linebacker. In fact, he picked off two passes during his career, one of which was a 48-yard pick-six. On this episode of Sports' Forgotten Heroes, we take a look back at the Hall of Fame career of Marion Motley with George Bozeka, President of the Professional Football Researcher's Association.
Former Finance Director for the Town of Newport, Paul Brown is here to explain the special town vote on September 24th, what a yes and no vote means for tax payers, where to vote and when.
El Paso mom won't get damages for unexpected pregnancy after believing her tubes were tiedKERA News, By Toluwani Osibamowo, on May 10, 2024https://www.keranews.org/health-wellness/2024-05-10/el-paso-mother-medical-negligence-texas-supreme-courtTexas GOP Wants a Horrifying Punishment for Abortion, IVF PatientsThe New Republic by Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling on April 1, 2024The discussion today highlights two major issues in Texas regarding women's health. The first story is about Gel Vasco, a woman who was unaware her tubes had not been tied despite paying for the procedure. She was refused compensation for her unexpected pregnancy, receiving only a $400 refund. The second story stems from a leaked meeting with the organization Abolish Abortion Texas, where the group's director, Paul Brown, outlined plans to classify abortion and the destruction of IVF embryos as murder, potentially punishable by the death penalty. This signals a return to more regressive views on women's health, akin to laws from the 1800s. These stories, discussed in articles from Kira News and New Republic, reflect a clear bias against pregnant women in Texas, where women's lives seem to be secondary to those of their unborn children.Justice Rebecca Huddle ruled that a healthy child is not an "injury" and refused compensation for Vasco's pregnancy, suggesting that carrying a healthy baby to term cannot be considered a harmful event. However, one panelist pointed out that pregnancy comes with significant physical strain, risk, and even accelerated cellular aging, which contradicts the notion that it causes no harm. Despite these realities, the Texas Supreme Court's stance reflects a broader dismissal of the health and autonomy of women in the state's healthcare system. As the discussion unfolded, it became clear that the state's policies are increasingly forcing women into situations where they must prioritize the life of the unborn over their own. Panelists critiqued Texas' punitive stance, particularly toward women and doctors, and noted the hypocrisy of the state's claim to value life, while advocating for the death penalty in cases of abortion. This ongoing conflict between women's rights and state control over their bodies leaves many in Texas in a precarious and often dangerous position. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.37.1 featuring Infidel 64, AJ, Damien H and Aaron JensenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.
