Brody Buster was a child prodigy on the harmonica and was already making appearances on major television shows like the Tonight's Show with Jay Leno and the 90's sitcom staple Full House, all before he turned 10 years old!!! Brody was baptized into the blues scene in Kansas City at a very early age and began forging a career that has allowed him to share the stage with the likes of B.B. King, Keb Mo, Quincy Jones, Chaka Kahn and others! As you'll hear in the episode, his battle with addiction nearly took him completely out of the game altogether, but thankfully, he's in recovery and back to playing live and he's got a brand-new record perfectly titled, Redemption, coming out in the Spring of 2025. Brody will also be playing one of the most unique gigs a guy could ever land this summer by performing on the Durango Blues Train in both May and August. About "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Road Less Traveled" Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Road Less Traveled was directed by Kevin Fair. Martha Williamson wrote the script. Eric Mabius (Oliver O'Toole) Kristin Booth (Shane) Crystal Lowe (Rita) Geoff Gustafson (Norman) Many of our favorite supporting characters return in this movie: Gregory Harrison as Joe O'Toole, Barry Bostwick as Rita's dad Bill, Zak Santiago as Ramon, Carol Burnett as Ardis, Jill Morrison as Hazel, Keb Mo as Gabe.  Janet Kidder plays Annaliese. Janet has 72 acting credits which includes "Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas" and "Christmas for Keeps" for Hallmark. She was also in "The Man in the High Castle" and "Star Trek Discovery." Jessica Sipos plays daughter Jessica. Jessica has 24 acting credits. This was her first appearance on Hallmark having previously appeared on UnREAL. For Hallmark she has also been in "Chesapeake Shores," "A Season for Family," and "Betty's Bad Luck in Love." Barbara Wallace plays wedding dress designed Evelyn. Barbara has 48 acting credits as well as 70 stage credits. For Hallmark she has also recently appeared in "To All a Good Night," "The Cases of Mystery Lane," and "The Christmas Contest."  Watch the Trailer for "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: To the Altar" Our Thoughts on "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: To the Altar" What We Loved There was so much to love about 'To the Altar' that it's hard to know where to start! Firstly, we adored the chemistry between the main characters—particularly the friendship between Norman and Oliver. Those tuxedo scenes? Pure gold. Oliver's tender moment of buttoning up Shane's wedding dress was a beautiful touch. Nice directing from Kevin Fair on that one! Norman's horror-stricken face at his bachelor party when he saw the cake was hilarious. And let's not forget Oliver's freakout about shrimp sauce at the same event! On the emotional front, the portrayal of Annalise and Jessica's reunion struck a chord. Writer Martha Williamson tackled the complicated issues of mental health and homelessness with such grace and nuance; it left us in tears. The connection between Rita's loss and Jessica's reconnection with Annalise was a poignant example of beautifully woven storytelling. And who could overlook Keb Mo's soulful singing? Hearing him perform just elevated our viewing experience. Finally, the proposal scene between Shane and Oliver was everything we hoped for. Seeing Oliver wear the tie was a moment that had us gasping and reaching for tissues. What We Wished For Even in Hallmark heaven, there are a few things that could have used a bit of tweaking. First on our wish list is more closure for Colleen Camp's character, Sonny. Her sudden spelunking accident felt abrupt and left us wanting more context. While we learned from various sources that there were off-screen issues that might have led to this plot choice, the transition was jarring. Speaking of specifics, cave diving or "spelunking" as the cause of death seemed unusually dark for Hallmark standards.

162 - From Apartheid to God :: Jonathan Butler

The Rich Redmond Show

Jonathan Butler is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who leads a life few can imagine. Born in South Africa under the shadow of apartheid and raised in poverty, Butler was the first non-white artist to be played on South African radio and appear on national television. Though his musical abilities would take him away from the world he grew up in, Jonathan would neither forget the plight of his fellow South Africans, nor the man that led them to freedom. It is for this reason Nelson Mandela credits Butler's music as having inspired him during his imprisonment. In more ways than one, Jonathan Butler is representative of South Africa. Jonathan's story begins at a very young age when his father presented him with a homemade one-string guitar. Little did his father realize that he was giving way to a musical phenomenon. From then on, Jonathan's musical gifts grew by leaps and bounds. In his early teens Butler won a local talent contest, affording him the opportunity to perform with a touring musical company throughout South Africa. On occasion he would perform at lavish concert halls for whites only, where he would not be allowed to use the bathroom, and the very next night he would perform in a dilapidated local township. Ultimately, his ticket to a new life was music.  At thirteen, Jonathan's talents caught the eyes and ears of the British record producer Clive Caulder. He was signed to Caulder's Jive Records and the rest is history. Jonathan's first single broke down racial barriers becoming the first song by a black artist played by white radio stations in South Africa and won the South African equivalent to a GRAMMY®. His commitment to his craft came to fruition with his self-titled debut album, which received a GRAMMY® nomination for the pop hit “Lies.” An instrumental “Going Home” earned him another GRAMMY® nomination and the mid-tempo ballad “Sarah, Sarah” confirmed Butler's place in popular music. However, to Jonathan Butler, success is measured on a higher plane. A religious and spiritual man, Butler dedicates his life to being a devoted father and grandfather, and a caring citizen to his homeland, South Africa. And in spite of all the hardships, Jonathan Butler has an air of playfulness and quiet resilience that is easily visible in his passionate performances.   Things That Came Up:  1:55 -taking a break after tours 4:00-being deeply in love with music  9:15-accepting yourself and believing in your own ability to succeed. 12:15-The NEW record Ubuntu, produced by Marcus Miller.  14:00-Stevie Wonder featured on harmonica as well as Keb Mo and Tommy Simms. I want to give a special thanks to previous podcast guest Del Lyren for introducing me to our guest today, Vinnie Ciesielski. Vinnie is a longtime stalwart of the Nashville music scene. His playing can be heard on countless recordings, commercials, soundtracks, symphony concerts, and the list goes on and on.Vinnie is also founder of a group called Vinnie And the Hitmen, of whom you can hear some samples on his website. In this episode, Vinnie talked a good deal about his founding origins as a trumpeter, and has some poignant insights into the importance of pop music, even for those of us who maybe have a tendency to thumb our noses at it while salivating over the likes of Mahler and Strauss. You've got be able to put food on the table at the end of the day, and sometimes mastering the art of pop music is what is necessary if you expect to put some of that food on the table with your musical skills. Our time went by so fast, which meant as usual we were just warming up to each other by the time we had to part ways. So we went ahead and scheduled another recording session! This Part 1 is great in many respects, and Part 2 is great as well, and deeply personal. So I highly recommend you listen to that one as well. Probably best to listen to them in order as you get to hear host and guest establish rapport before diving deep into the "why" of doing music, and how it relates to the deep needs within all of us.That's all I'll share about Part 2, for now enjoy Part 1!What you'll hear in this episode:-Ciesielski is spelled how it sounds...06:00-How to find your way into a local scene, and play what you really want to play...11:30-Vinnie's founding origins as a trumpeter...16:15-Good days and great days...19:00-A solid foundation on the mental element of trumpet playing...23:00-Pop music pays the bills...30:00-What we call "classical" music was at one time "pop" music...33:00-Why do we thumb our noses at "pop" music?...38:45-Movie soundtracks and classical music finding its niche in modern culture...42:00-The need for a pleasing personality in keeping the gig...48:00-There are no bad days; there are only good days and great days...53:00-Plus whatever your discerning ears deem worthy of your time and interest...Resources mentioned:Check out James Newcomb's new book: PinPoint PersuasionVinnie's websiteTrumpet Dynamics podcast with Paul Baron and Bobby MedinaTrumpet DiagnosticsAbout the Guest:Attending Towson University in Maryland, Vinnie Ciesielski majored in music performance on trumpet, which he has played professionally for over 50 years.Since coming to Nashville in 1992, Vinnie has played on thousands of recordings with artists such as Lyle Lovett, Travis Tritt, Tracy Byrd, Smokey Norful, Tanya Tucker, Glenn Frey, T.D. The show notes for this episode are https://trumpetdynamics.com/trumpetvinnie2. I believe I left out the number 2 during the interview because I initially planned to have this be one giant episode, but wisely chose to break it into two parts. And what a part this is. Vinnie and I dove deep into the "why" of playing trumpet. The "How" tends to be rather superficial, which is why I don't have much interest in podcasts like that. But the "why" is what gets me excited, and Vinnie surely did not disappoint with his insightful comments in this one.Enjoy! What you'll hear in this episode:-More in-depth dialogue on the "good day and great day" concept...05:05-The need for healthy lifestyle for success on trumpet and overall quality of life...08:30-Self-loathing equates to loathing your environment...13:30-Why and how Vinnie has played with a rare condition that causes loss of feeling on the left side of his body...17:20-If you can feel your face, you're ahead of the game!...25:00-Shame is a wasted emotion...32:00-Keeping things real regarding the importance of trumpet...36:00-Adapting to radically changed physicality, and thoughtfully losing weight so it stays off...43:30-Music a salve for tremendous joy and intense loss...53:45-Are we "called" to trumpet?...58:45-A father's offhand comment while watching TV proves prophetic...01:03:30-Plus whatever your discerning ears deem worthy of your time and interest...Resources mentioned:Vinnie's websiteMy Fitness Pal appTrumpet Dynamics podcast with Beth PeroutkaAbout the Guest:Attending Towson University in Maryland, Vinnie Ciesielski majored in music performance on trumpet, which he has played professionally for over 50 years.Since coming to Nashville in 1992, Vinnie has played on thousands of recordings with artists such as Lyle Lovett, Travis Tritt, Tracy Byrd, Smokey Norful, Tanya Tucker, Glenn Frey, T.D. Hailing from the foothills of the North Georgia Appalachian Mountains, Charlsey Etheridge's roots in Americana Music run deep. There she learned to sing harmony around her grandmother's piano after church on Sundays and taught herself guitar chords from her mother's old Emmylou Harris songbook. She wrote her first song at the young age of 7 while riding through the woods in her step-father's old army jeep. After moving to Nashville in 2003, Charlsey was immersed into the Nashville songwriting culture, working alongside such music industry veterans as Harley Allen and Steve Wariner. “Even though Harley is no longer with us, I am often reminded of an invaluable piece of advice he left me,” Etheridge reflects. “He said, ‘just remember... fame will come and go... but you can ALWAYS write.' As a young 23 year old, I didn't think much of that statement at the time, but through the years, his words resonate with me more and more.” In 2013, Etheridge released her first full-length studio album, appropriately titled, Memories of Mine. The critically acclaimed record intimately paid homage to the sounds of her youth, exploring the Bluegrass, Gospel, and old Folk songs her grandmother used to sing to her. Memories received stellar reviews in such bluegrass and roots music publications as No Depression and The Bluegrass Situation. The 2013 album set the stage for Charlsey's future success in Americana and Roots music. In 2021, Etheridge collaborated with legendary guitarist Jack Pearson (of Allmon Brothers Band fame) to release a previously recorded, newly mastered five-song EP, An Acoustic Christmas with Charlsey and Jack. The holiday album blends Jack's lyrical musicality and lightning-precise fingerwork and with Charlsey's butter-smooth voice in a not-to-be-forgotten compilation of holiday favorites. Now, nearly 8 years after her first studio album, Charlsey is releasing a compilation of original music, entitled Scars of Mine. She has joined forces with MuzikMafia veteran, Jerry Navarro (Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson), who is also the founder of the new Indy label, The Frequency Spot (of which Etheridge is also an active artist). Joining Charlsey in this collaboration are band members Marcus Finnie (Lady A, Keb Mo, Taj Mahal), Walt Scott, Chris Walters (Barbara Mandrell), and Pat Bergeson (Suzy Bogguss, Lyle Lovett, Chet Atkins). The project is co-produced by sought after guitarist and musician, Pat Bergeson. Today marks 20 years since the US under George W Bush invaded Iraq. Today we mark that occasion by reaching into my radio archives. Today we hear a conversation with then-Congressman Dennis Kucinich and a production piece I put together both from May 20, 2009, and an interview with Peace Mom Cindy Sheehan from May 20, 2015. We end on a peaceful note, with a 1996 performance and interview with musician Keb' Mo'...

Today I have Grammy winner and producer Cliff Goldmacher.  Cliff has a catalog of over 1,000 songs and writes with and for artists across multiple genres. He has written a #1 single on the jazz charts, a song on a GRAMMY-winning album and multiple songs featured in major movie releases and national advertising campaigns.  Some of his songs have been recorded by Kesha, Keb Mo, and Lisa Loeb to name a few. On today's show, Cliff shares some writing tips from his book “The Reason for the Rhymes” and breaks down his songwriting process and career advice.  The function of a chorus, metaphor, simplicity and being a good cowriter. Show takeaways:When trying to find a metaphor, ask the question "What is my concept like?"If you are using one metaphor, stay with that metaphor.  Stay in the ocean for example, keeping all of your imagery connected to your original metaphor When in doubt say lessTry to have the maximum impact with the fewest wordsThe importance of staying organizedThe chorus is the moment in the song when you stop and explain to your listener why you've been saying what you've been saying in the verseThe chorus should have the same lyric each timeProductivity supports creativity and creativity supports productivityWhat assets are you bringing to a cowriter? production? great vocals? great instrumentalist? The art of collaborationThe importance of listening to an artist and helping them translate what's important to themBe macro-patient and micro-impatient:  Be impatient enough to get up every day and do the workToday's guest Cliff Goldmacher:https://www.cliffgoldmacher.comCliff's book "The Reason for the Rhymes":https://www.amazon.com/Reason-Rhymes-Mastering-Essential-Innovation-ebook/dp/B089RSCLCV/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1B1FNTKHS2MF1&keywords=cliff+goldmacer&qid=1672445129&sprefix=cliff+goldmacer%2Caps%2C80&sr=8-1Podcast engineer Peter Sykes music:https://open.spotify.com/artist/41llpsdBBIDlQixP0VHVA8?si=LhMf9SylS_6k6rjfWf2DawThis is Apple Musichttps://music.apple.com/us/artist/peter-j-sykes/1599264277For info on Otto Gross:The show's theme song "What's in a Song" was co-written with Otto GrossRecorded and performed by Otto Gross: @OttoGrossProduction (instagram)@OttoGrossMusic (Youtube, facebook, TikTok)https://biglink.to/ottogrossmusic Scarlet's website: https://www.scarletkeys.comScarlet's instagram: https://www.instagram.com/scarletkeysofficial/To purchase Scarlet Keys' book "The Craft of Songwriting:https://www.amazon.com/Craft-Songwriting-Music-Meaning-Emotion/dp/0876391927/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2PP55NU6E9ST6&keywords=the+craft+of+songwriting&qid=1659573139&sprefix=the+craft+of+songwritin%2Caps%2C153&sr=8-1

Niki J Crawford and her band bring the heat with a high-energy soul get down. There is undeniable energy hitting the airwaves on this week's podcast. You can feel her Soul, Funk, and R&B sound.  Niki and the band members have shared the stage and have played with Carlos Santana, Snoop Dogg, Al Green, Macy Gray, The Roots, and Keb Mo just to name a few of the performers who have sought out her talent.  She has performed on various late-night TV shows such as Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and Saturday Night Live.  Making her way from the small country town of Springhill, Louisiana to Los Angeles, Niki is a triple threat: powerful vocalist, imaginative screen and songwriter, and stunning actress.  Niki sat down with me after the California Worldfest to bring her signature southern charm, and probably the best compliment I could share with you is that sitting down with Niki feels like being home in Savannah, Georgia. Check out Niki's links: https://linktr.ee/NikiJCrawford Also in this episode, you can join along in the experience through video on my YouTube channel @neuronstonirvanapodcast https://worldfest.net/   Please like, subscribe or follow this podcast on your preferred listening platform, and if you are even more ambitious, it would mean so much to me if you would complete a very short survey on how to shape future episodes of the podcast. Please consider filling out this short questionnaire by clicking here.   Be a part of this podcast! Gibson has an incredible history of making some of the best acoustic guitars. But after 100 years, which ones are their best acoustic guitars ever made? Whenever I talk about Gibson Guitars, I'm always sure to upset, puzzle, dazzle, and mystify some folks. So, before you go any further, I want you to know this is just my perspective on things. Take it for what it's worth. I've played thousands of guitars for even thousands of more hours.  When I made this list I wanted to remove some of the super expensive, vintage Gibson acoustic guitars that are truly cost prohibitive. Many Gibson acoustic guitars are just way too expensive, but just know I considered putting them on this list. From the Keb Mo signature to the True Vintage J-200, there are some incredible guitars on this list. Be sure to watch the full episode to see if your favorite Gibson acoustic guitar is on this list! In addition to talking about some of the best acoustic guitars Gibson has made, we'll take a look at some comments from the episode I did on the 10 best guitar albums from the '80s. Seems like a ruffled some feathers, so be sure to tune and see if you agree with your fellow TAC Family members! Featured in this Episode... - Gibson TV   - Metallica   - Dead Horses   - Beard Guitars   - Atkin Guitars   - Thompson Guitars   - Billy Strings
