In her 2001 masterwork Nickel and Dimed, the late Barbara Ehrenreich went undercover to report on the daily realities working people in America face trying to get by on minimum-wage. After working as a housekeeper, a nursing aide, a home cleaner, a server, and more, Ehrenreich wrote that "The first thing I discovered is that no job, no matter how lowly, is truly 'unskilled.'" It is difficult to overstate the impact that Ehrenreich's book and body of work have had on US culture and working-class politics over the last 25 years, and the enduring relevance of her work today. In this special episode of Working People, we commemorate the anniversary of Nickel and Dimed and celebrate the life and legacy of Ehrenreich by speaking with a panel of guests who are carrying on that legacy today. Panelists include: Deirdre English, coauthor of three books with Barbara Ehrenreich, former editor in chief of Mother Jones, and a former director of the Magazine Center at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley; Alissa Quart, editorial director of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project and author of seven books, most recently Bootstrapped: Liberating Ourselves from the American Dream; and Ann Larson, author of Cleanup on Aisle Five: Essential Work, Poverty Wages, and the View from Behind the Supermarket Register and a fellow with the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. Auto Action's weekly motorsport therapy session… now with extra caffeine and fewer brakes.Strap in, legends — this week's RevLimiter is a bit like the second chicane at Monza: fast, messy, and guaranteed to upset somebody. We kick things off with F1's young-gun cage match, where Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are split by a single lonely championship point. One. Uno. The margin is thinner than a McLaren PR statement. So… what happens now?Does Oscar keep his ice-veined rhythm, or does Lando's late-season desperation finally boil over? And while everyone's arm-wrestling over papaya bragging rights, we'll ask whether Max Verstappen is actually out of this… or just coiling for a late-season sucker punch. We wouldn't bet the house — but maybe a small rental car.And yes — Ollie Bearman. Mexico. The kid looked like he'd been driving F1 cars since preschool. Superstar energy. Big future. Ferrari might actually have something to smile about — assuming they don't find a way to ruin it.Back home, Supercars went nuclear.Chaz Mostert didn't just win twice — he turned the championship upside down like he was shaking loose change from the couch cushions. Meanwhile, the Finals format has already claimed its first scalps:Brodie Kostecki – gone.Ryan Wood – gone.Anton De Pasquale – also gone. The drama is real and the field is getting thinner than a pit-lane excuse. We'll also take a moment to remember two towering figures who shaped Aussie racing:Garry Rogers — the big personality who never stopped giving young drivers a crack. And George Sheppard — a quiet giant whose fingerprints are all over the sport's modern history. It's all coming your way: fast, loud, and with more bite than a Bathurst hotel schnitty.Don't miss it.All this and more on the latest episode of the AutoAction RevLimiter. Check out https://autoaction.com.au/for all thelatest updates and dropping news.  Thanks to Byron Clarke for production support. #F1 #Supercars #NASCAR #IMSA #WEC#hypercar #LandoNorris#OscarPiastri #SVG Musicby:bensound.comArtist:DollshadeLicensecode:JMWGOIMLZNKZYGBR

The 13th Annual Valor Awards presented by Bank of Clarke are fast approaching, and excitement is building in the Shenandoah Valley. Valley Today host, Janet Michael, welcomes Kaleigh Fincham, Director of Events for the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber, and Brandon Lorey, President and CEO of Bank of Clarke, to discuss this meaningful event. Together, they explore the significance of recognizing local heroes who go above and beyond for their community. Celebrating Everyday Heroes The Valor Awards honor law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, 911 dispatchers, and even ordinary citizens. These individuals have performed extraordinary acts of courage and selflessness. Kaleigh explains that the event recognizes those who put themselves in harm's way to protect others. She emphasizes the emotional atmosphere in the room, noting that many recipients see their actions as simply “doing their job.” The Power of Community Support Brandon shares why Bank of Clarke proudly sponsors the awards. He believes strong communities are built on the dedication of these brave individuals. The bank's employees eagerly fill tables at the event, showing their appreciation for local heroes. Brandon describes the experience as humbling, stating that the stories shared during the ceremony inspire everyone in attendance. Open to All The Valor Awards are not exclusive. Anyone in the community can attend, whether they are a chamber member or not. Kaleigh encourages everyone to experience the event at least once. She notes that tickets often sell out quickly, especially for tables. Attendees can also purchase tickets for public safety personnel and their families, ensuring that those being honored can celebrate with loved ones. Giving Back A portion of the event's proceeds supports local public safety foundations and agencies. Kaleigh explains that the beneficiary is revealed during the ceremony, adding an element of surprise. Brandon highlights the bank's ongoing commitment to community giving, sharing that Bank of Clarke has donated millions to local nonprofits over the years. A Night to Remember The conversation concludes with practical details about the event. The Valor Awards will take place at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club, promising a memorable evening with good food and inspiring stories. Janet, Kaleigh, and Brandon agree that the awards are a powerful reminder of the courage and generosity that define their community.

The Put it in the Books Show – Season 8 Episode 14: Grading the Mets, Saluting the Captain & Second Half HopesIt's the All-Star break hangover edition, and the whole gang—Farace, Rodriguez, Keith, and Producer Joe (behind the wall)—is back to hand out the most highly anticipated, hotly debated, and barely scientific report cards in all of Mets Nation. First up: first half grades for everything and everyone. The lineup gets graded (spoiler: Soto brings the curve way up), the pitching staff gets a harsh look, management faces its own midterm review, and yes, even the fans are getting a grade—good luck if you've ever left a game in the 7th inning. But it's not all tests and critiques. Saturday at Citi Field is all about the Captain, David Wright, as he finally gets his number retired. Expect stories, nostalgia, and a little envy from the current roster—because let's face it, nobody's made the hot corner look as smooth in Queens since. We'll also break down the real keys to the Mets' championship push in the second half: will the bullpen hold together with chewing gum and wishful thinking? Can the offense stay awake past the sixth inning? And is there a single person on the staff who can prevent a rain delay from lasting four hours? As for the crew: Farace hands out grades like expired Halloween candy, Rodriguez lobbies for a “participation trophy” for everyone, Keith finds a way to bring up 1986 (again), and Producer Joe is just happy to have WiFi strong enough to stream the episode.Buckle up, Mets fans—the second half is here, the hopes are high, and the sarcasm isn't going anywhere. Let's put it in the books—before someone asks us for a makeup exam. #Mets #PiitB #PutItInTheBooks

The FOX True Crime Podcast w/ Emily Compagno

Whether it's tackling suspects, locating explosives, uncovering narcotics, or rescuing victims, K9s are fearless heroes willing to sacrifice it all to ensure our safety. Their service is not without consequences, and their work often results in health problems which lead to expensive veterinary costs that fall upon their handlers. That's why Congressional leaders are working for a legislative solution.   Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) discusses his bipartisan bill, the Honoring Our K9 Heroes Act, and shares how this legislation would help make medical care more accessible for the working dogs of our nation.
