EP 205: In this special double-feature episode of Revival Town Podcast, we bring you two inspiring interviews that delve into the heart of the Asbury Revival. First, we welcome Zach Meerkreebs, the esteemed Pastor in Residence at Asbury University. Zach shares a heartfelt and inspiring account of his own spiritual journey, emphasizing the transformative night that sparked the Asbury Revival. While the Asbury Revival attracted thousands from around the world over 16 days, this episode is not just a story of revival; it's an invitation to experience a deeper connection with Jesus and to open ourselves to the life He offers. Next, we feature JD Walt. As the former Dean of Chapel for Asbury Theological Seminary, JD shares his insights on how he helped steward the Asbury Awakening. JD's account provides a behind-the-scenes look at the revival that has set Asbury University on fire, offering valuable lessons on nurturing spiritual renewal and fostering community in faith.
The kids are back in school. That can stir up a lot of emotions for kids andparents. How can we build emotional safety in our home? Emilie DeYoung joins us with practical things we can do to help everyone in our family to adjust and thrive. She refers to them as the ABCs of returning to school. Emilie is the clinical director of Counseling Services at Winning at Home. She holds a PhD in psychology with an emphasis on child and adolescent counseling and a masters degree in social work. She strives to help kids and teens understand their precious worth. Then, Perry got this email from Jeff, a Perry and Shawna listener: “My uncle was found dead in his apartment, he was so far from God and I fear where he is now.” What happened after that email is amazing. JD Walt says, “There are two fundamental resources that enable us to be fruitful followers of Jesus in the world: One, the Word of God. And two, the Spirit of God.” The goal is not to have 50% of each but 100 % of each, just like Jesus. Then, maybe there’s someone you love who doesn’t want anything to do with Jesus. Their heart seems impenetrable. If so we’ve got some hope to share! Last, we need to pass on our story to the next generation. It’s really as easy as one, two, three. One, what was life like before? Two, what happened to change your thinking? And three, how is life different now? Share your story with someone today!Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There are some wild ideas about who God is in our world right now. The Apostles Creed was written to guard the beauty, serious, and scriptural traits of who God is. Like and share! Have a blessed day! Sermon notes The Creed matters: Repetition is how you learn things. Shoutout to Pastor Marc Donaldson at Marvin and JD Walt for sharing this last week at Core worship. - God created, therefore he wants us to enjoy what he created. - God is Almighty because we don't deserve ANYTHING, but He gives us life anyway (cf John 1:3). - God is the Father because the Bible reveals Himself to be and people have experienced such. Any experience of God starts with His Word.
So many of us strive, try and do and forget to just "be." JD Walt is a farmer, poet, theologian, jurist, publisher and Seedbed's Sower-in-Chief. He joins the show to talk about how the love of God isn't something that he has earned or even chased, but something that has chased him, and now shines through him. We are ecstatic to release an interview we did with JD Walt on fasting. The three of us (David, Bethany, and Guy) are new-ish to fasting, and it seemed like a pretty good idea to bring JD on, as he is the author of a 40-week fasting program over at seedbed.com. Here's what we talk about: Check-in on our silence and solitude challenge; Intro JD and Seedbed; Fasting and the purpose behind it; Jesus expects ALL Christians to fast; Fasting is more than just giving up food; Fasting from things other than food; How do I fast if I have health issues; CHALLENGES AND CHARGES For each episode in our series on the spiritual disciplines, we want to give you some first steps into these disciplines so that they would become more a part of our daily and weekly life. Our challenges and charges this week are: Join the Seedbed Fasting Challenge here ; Fast from one meal this week; BETHANY'S BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO FASTING If you're brand new to fasting, here are some guidelines from everyone's favorite podcast host, Bethany Babar McFarland: Start slow and break slow. "In my experiences, the most important things are starting and stopping gradually rather than drastically. i.e. don't eat a Big Mac as your last meal before a fast and don't go to Golden Corral to reward yourself on a fast well done." Drink lots of water both before and during the fast. Bethany's advice: "Drink more than you think you need." Wean off caffeine beforehand, if necessary. As JD said in the interview, it's completely up to you if you want to keep the coffee IV going or not. But, if you choose to include coffee, Cokes, etc., in the list of things you're fasting from, try weaning off of it before your fast. Consult your doctor if you have any health concerns about fasting. Also, here are some good articles to check out if you're new to fasting: Desiring God -- Fasting for Beginners Cru -- Your Personal Guide to Fasting and Prayer ADDITIONAL RESOURCES We want to be honest and say that we are not experts in any of these disciplines. We can only share what we're learning and what we've experienced. We hope you find what we have to say helpful. In this episode of The Threshing Floor our hosts talked about why they love Advent and what it was like journeying towards celebrating Advent. All three of our hosts grew up in a non-liturgical traditions, so Advent is a recent holiday for them. Chad interviews JD Walt, sower in chief of Seedbed.com about the new relationship between The Threshing Floor and Seedbed. As always, there is some great off topic banter. Our closing song is from The Opiate Mass's record "From the Belly of a Woman". It is their rendition of the classic advent song "For Unto Us a Child is Born". You can get their music from the usual places and The Threshing Floor is a big fan of The Opiate Mass.
