The big four power companies are investing in a strategic energy reserve which will add 600-thousand tonnes of coal to current stocks. Rewiring Aotearoa Chief Executive Mike Casey says this will be needed because we haven't reduced our reliance on fossil fuels. He told Ryan Bridge we need to accelerate the move towards sources like solar and geothermal. Her passion for working with individuals suffering from these lonely conditions is that she too was a “hopeless case”, but got better.Dismissed by doctors, she was told over and over there was nothing else she could try beyond pharmacotherapy, and so was inspired to create myocddiary.com, a site dedicated to documenting the daily life of OCD and related disorders. Through this project and holistic therapies, she found new levels of wellness, and in 2014 did a TED talk called “MyOCDdiary: an imperfect story.” She utilizes natural and integrative modalities including targeted amino acid therapy, peptide therapy, micronutrient therapy, bioresonance, botanical medicine and epigenetic analysis. After some backyard hogs in Oregon State contracted the bird flu, the Swine Health Information Center has its guard up. The highly pathogenic avian influenza is not the only animal disease that the center is watching, but it's new on the list since it was found in a few pigs in October. Associate Director Lisa Becton says SHIC has a new H5N1 Research Program and is seeking proposals.  Becton also updates the Mid-West Farm Report on the Japanese encephalitis virus research. Finally, she highlights the Wean-to-Harvest Biosecurity Program that investigates research priorities in three areas – bioexclusion (keeping disease off the farm), biocontainment (after a break, keeping disease on the farm to lessen risk to neighbors), and transportation biosecurity (live haul, culls, markets, deadstock, and feed haul along with innovative ways to stop pathogens from moving from markets and concentration points back to the farm). The goal of the program is to leverage funds to develop new tools and technologies that can enhance biosecurity in the wean-to-harvest phases of swine production.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
