MONSTER PARTY HAS A CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE WORST KIND! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, experience an other-worldly abduction of taste, logic, and talent. Prepare to take an intergalactic trip to worlds beneath your imagination, as we meet the... WORST ALIENS! Aliens in films and television come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and it's up to the creative team behind each project to fulfill a sci-fi nerd's outlandish expectations. But sometimes, these artists are not quite up to the task. That's when you get some of the lesser lifeforms in genre favorites, like STAR TREK, STAR WARS, LOST IN SPACE, SPACE:1999, and DOCTOR WHO, as well as numerous other fantastic film flops. We're talkin' space hippies, Muppet rockers, silver bandidos, butt parasites, E.T. ripoffs, L. Ron invaders, and candy-coated creeps, just to name a few! So what happens behind the scenes to give birth to these outer space atrocities? Is it a lack of a decent budget? Being locked into someone else's uninspired vision? Or is it really that the people in charge simply couldn't be bothered? And does any of that matter? Because for some strange reason beyond our comprehension... some of the worst aliens can be our favorites! Joining us for this gaudy, galaxy-spanning gabfest is a dear friend of MONSTER PARTY, and someone who knows intuitively how to spot an alien who just isn't "bringing it". She's an award-winning writer, producer, actor, and comedian, but we like to think of her as a transporter-beamed dollop of delight! Please welcome back... SUE MURPHY! (CHELSEA LATELY, CHELSEA, WANDA AT LARGE, WANDA DOES IT, THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW, THE SOUP, COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS, THE JEFF FOXWORTHY SHOW, STAR WARS: EWOKS) IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE ONE OF THE WORST ALIENS, DON'T FEEL BAD. REMEMBER, IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR THE HATERS.

“Storytelling is our oldest art form. We can't silence the arts and those voices because if we do, we lose something that is so crucial to who we are just as human beings. We want to tell stories. We want to express things. For example, I cannot draw. And one day the teacher wanted us to do negative space drawings. And I said, ‘What is that?; And they explained that it's looking at what's around the object and not the object. And it clicked, and it made me look at things from a whole different perspective. And you know, what? That became where I was most successful. And so for me, there's are an infinite number of ways to tell a story that you never run out of ideas, that you can always find another road, another way to look at something. That's probably one of the key elements to my career.”Michael Begler is showrunner, writer, and executive producer of Perry Mason, which debuted as HBO's most-watched series in nearly two years upon its premiere in June 2020. “I call it the percolating trauma inside him, and I think that it's a combination of things with Matthew Rhys who plays Perry Mason. Again, it's holding onto this trauma that happened a dozen years ago in the war, that this is not something that he has really dealt with. And I think that you can't take that lightly. It doesn't go away with time. It doesn't heal. It's still inside you, and it's still informing who you are. And I think that was important in coming into season two because here is a man who's now thrust into this whole other battle. He's now an attorney. And how does he put lives in his hands? So he is gone through this in season one, and now we're coming into season two knowing that he's haunted by the fact that he thought he saved somebody. He put Emily Dodson's life in his hands only to have her commit suicide. So now he's wrestling deeply with the flaws in himself and his character that these soldiers put their lives in his hands in the war.Emily Dodson put her life in his hands in the trial. And now he's going to take on these two boys who could swing on a noose. Does he want that? Does he have enough inside him? And that's why we play with the imposter syndrome because he doesn't know if this is who he really is. And does he still have that fight inside him?And so I think that's the sort of push-pull I think that you're alluding to inside and that he's trying to hold it in and trying to hold it all together. And we do see those moments when he can't hold it back. When he punches the guy in the face in episode four when he steals the horse. These are things that he needs to release that valve because it's so much he's trying to hold onto to get to the result that he wants to win the fight because he hasn't fully won a fight yet. And that's hard.”Michael Begler is showrunner, writer, and executive producer of Perry Mason, which debuted as HBO's most-watched series in nearly two years upon its premiere in June 2020. “Creators Ron Fitzgerald and Rolin Jones and Team Downey, this was a sort of a thing that they came up with, but I think what we wanted to explore in season two was really to dig more into this idea of what is it to be a woman with ambition in this era, 3% of attorneys were women in the entire nation in 1933. So that alone is an uphill battle. And then when you add the complication of being queer in this time, and that there are laws against it that you have to make sure every step you take is so calculated and so careful that you don't slip up. It's all based on fear and threat and what happens if something you've established all of a sudden, a woman can come in and do it.When we look at the current political climate, and we look at the way they're trying to erase history, to whitewash history, I think is such a dangerous precedent because we can only learn from our past. We can learn from our mistakes. We can learn from what happened. If we don't tell the truth, where does that leave us? If we can cherry-pick what's important to know and not know, and by an elite view, well, how different are those elite views from the elite view of a hundred years ago? We have to learn from our past. It's the only way to have a future. Begler's previous series include the Peabody Award-winning The Knick, starring Clive Owen, directed by Steven Soderbergh, writing/producing credits also include comedy series The Tony Danza Show, The Jeff Foxworthy Show and the film Big Miracle starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski. And I think that to me is essential.”www.imdb.com/title/tt2077823www.instagram.com/perrymasonhbowww.imdb.com/name/nm0066764www.creativeprocess.infowww.oneplanetpodcast.orgIG www.instagram.com/creativeprocesspodcast

JEFF FOXWORTHY has been telling JOKES and making people LAUGH for a long time.   Which is why it's so incredible that this week show is one of the DEEPEST and most MEANINGFUL programs I've ever done We go deep on  LIFEFAITH SUCCESS CANCEL CULTURE THE GOOD OLD DAYS  And it's truly an INCREDIBLE CONVERSATION.One I'm truly GRATEFUL to have participated in and I think you'll be grateful that you listen to it or watched it You know Jeff best from his BLUE COLLAR COMEDY TOURS with Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White as well as THE JEFF FOXWORTHY SHOW, and the quiz show ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER.  He's authored several books and recorded six comedy albums, including two that were certified 3x PLATINUM. But there's a lot more to Jeff than just being a guy who tells “you might be a redneck” one-liners. This week's podcast peels back the funny to reveal a DIFFERENT SIDE OF JEFF, from many years of struggles during his early years, to how the BIBLE has shaped and guided his daily life.   One of the gifts of being a comedian is that not only are you a great storyteller, but you're also a great observer of the HUMAN CONDITION.  In fact, that's where your humor often springs from.  Jeff has also channeled those observational powers into watching how people deal or don't deal with their problems. He's also got great advice about LETTING GO of what you can't control, WHY FAILING A LOT is a key to success, and not putting yourself in situations that will ruin your life.   We also get into how comedy has changed in recent years, especially as it relates to comedians and CANCEL CULTURE.  Despite these kinds of challenges, Jeff talks openly about the JOYS OF BEING A COMEDIAN and how he remains RELEVANT and MOTIVATED while balancing the ongoing demands of being a celebrity.   You're going to like the hour we all spend together with Jeff.  He's got great stories to tell and great takes to download.   And that, my friends, is no joke.

Comedian Ritch Shydner isn't exactly just a comedian. Yes, he's appeared on The Tonight Show, Letterman and Leno a bunch of times. Sure, he's had HBO specials. Yep, he played Al Bundy's coworker on Married With Children. And of course he's been a working comic for decades. But there's a bunch of other stuff: writing gigs on Roseanne, Titus and The Jeff Foxworthy Show. A book on comedy. And the you-need-to-go-watch-right now documentary I Am Comic where he's the star and folks like Sarah Silverman, Nick Kroll, Jeff Foxworthy, Roseanne and Margaret Cho have cameos. And now for the substance abuse stuff: Shydner boozed it up for years, dabbling in drugs too, and only stopped when he saw that all the drinking and drugging was sabotaging his comedy career. He got that career back but then, years into sobriety, decided to give up the stage so he wouldn't have to always be on the road away from his family. I Am Comic focuses on his decision to get back on the comedy circuit—a decision that allowed him to get off the meds he'd been on for a decade-and-a-half. In this episode, he and AfterParty's Anna David discuss how cops used to drive you to concerts instead of arresting you for drunk driving, the best way to perform for a Rasta audience (hint: smoke out and then just laugh on stage) and getting heckled by Sean Penn, among other topics.
