On the thirty- fourth episode of ATFT, I talk with writer/ director/ editor Franklin Ritch! Franklin Ritch, one of Jacksonville's most prominent filmmakers, has worn many hats since he was a child. Once he was gifted a video camera by his grandmother for Christmas, there was no slowing Franklin down. His earliest projects were stop motion shorts, and he continued to make films through middle school and high school. His work only proved more versatile in terms of stories, characters, and genres when making a series of short films, such as "Bedridden" and "New Wings: A Batgirl Fan Film" under his production company Last Resort Ideas. Franklin's debut feature film, The Artifice Girl, had quite a successful film festival run. Franklin has been named one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film” by Filmmaker Magazine. Franklin is without a doubt on the rise and a filmmaker who I'm sure you'll be hearing more about in the years to come. Franklin's latest project is the highly- anticipated sci- fi short film, "Last Weekend". The short is set in the distant future where aliens have taken over Earth while humans live in reservations and follows two aliens who approach humans intending to help… but the humans are skeptical. While the plot is mostly under wraps at the moment, the film is largely a commentary on colonialism, specifically the treatment of indigenous communities in America. Franklin directed, wrote, and edited this film. "Last Weekend" reunites the team behind The Artifice Girl, including actors David Girard and Tatum Matthews. If you look closely in the final scene, you may spot past ATFT guest, Bernardo Goya! "Last Weekend "is currently in the midst of a film festival run and is expected to release this Winter! While you're waiting for "Last Weekend" to be posted on YouTube, check out Franklin's past work on the Last Resort Ideas Youtube channel by clicking this link: https://www.youtube.com/c/LastResortIdeas This is Franklin's first appearance on ATFT! We were introduced through our mutual friend, Bassel Jadaa, nearly a year ago at joint WIFT x Jacksonville Film Bar event. It was in this first meeting that I asked Franklin to come on the show, for which he was absolutely down for, and over the course of the year I've gotten to know him by chatting with him monthly at Film Bar. He's one of the people I look forward to chatting with most each month since, aside from being very kind and humble, we both share a strong passion for cinema. Since we mostly talk about cinema rather than our own work, it wasn't until I started preparing for this episode that I realized just how brilliant and rare of a filmmaker Franklin is. The Artifice Girl was without a doubt remarkable, ahead- of- its- time debut feature film, but watching Franklin's films and videos from high school is what blew me away. There is not one bad film or video posted through the Last Resort Ideas Youtube channel. His early work is incredibly well made in all aspects from writing to acting to special effects, proving how gifted he is as a filmmaker. For this reason, this was one of the most exciting interviews I have ever had the pleasure of conducting. This episode was recorded on December 5, 2024. In this episode, Franklin talks about his connection to film and filmmaking as well as his early work up to his recent projects such as The Artifice Girl. Up and coming filmmakers will greatly benefit from learning about Franklin and his drive to making his cinematic dreams a reality. Franklin also talks about his integral relationship with frequent collaborator Britt McTammany, what he gained as a filmmaker from being on the set of his mentor Mike Flanagan's new film The Life of Chuck, and why the end of each of his films contain a credit for “Marlon Brando's chest”. All this and much more on the latest episode of All the Film Things! Background music created and used with permission by the Copyright Free Music - Background Music for Videos channel on YouTube.

Ritch Shydner Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson - Part Deux Ritch Shydner could come back every week and we'd never run out of things to discuss, it would always be entertaining, and he'd always be funny. Co-host! There are no accidents. Losing his signal last week on the road in Georgia was a blessing. We got a Shydner double dip. This conversation with the standup comedian who holds the distinction of making a dozen appearances on Carson's Tonight Show, as well as numerous appearances on Letterman and Leno, had fabulous stories about the former and the latter, Sam Kinison, their 80s NY road trip before Sam's superstardom, and how their debauchery almost cost Ritch big time, Roseanne, who handed Ritch his segue from front of the camera to writer, Jeff Foxworthy, a natural after only a few weeks of standup, who created a new joke form, Bill Maher, and True Story, Mike Binder, and Miind of The Married Man, and Robert Klein who shared a most unlikely kinship… there were gems aplenty. But, it was Ritch's poignant, heartfelt recounting of his parents' 72-year marriage, his father's drinking, his mother's rolling pin, the silent years after graduating law school and choosing comedy, Ritch's redemption, and then getting sober, making amends, his father following suit on both, and the shift in their relationship for the 36 years that followed until just last month when his dad was transitioning this earthly world. Moving, beyond words… and, funny! I so enjoyed every word, every moment, with this self-aware, humble, wildly intelligent - emotionally as well as intellectually, ever-evolving, hysterically funny man. Do I need a reason to have a Part 3? Ritch Shydner Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson - Part Deux! Ritch Shydner Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Well, that was a first! On the road with Ronna and Ritch Shydner as they traveled from Florida back home to North Carolina. Literally, in the car, in the fading light, in rural Georgia, with intermittent signal. It was as much a surprise to me as to you! Kinda like doing an interview in a disco with strobe lights. Trooper Ritch didn't want to cancel even though he was in the midst of family tragedy, having very recently lost his dad, and was out of state with his mom to help. I knew all that, the driving adventure, not so much. Please forgive the challenges and appreciate the funny that Ritch is even in the midst of this! We talked the swing states as they drove through one, the DNC, new hope, sugar addiction, intermittent dieting, the no-matter-what club for drinking and drugging that just doesn't work with salt and sweets. Ritch's very early standup days, whilst in law school, getting the degree but opting out, what joy for his parents! Trying LA, choosing NY, the crowd he came up with, the clubs he came up in, in the stand-up 80s heyday, meeting Carol, doing his first Carson, still high, hitting bottom, a Mark who saved him, and then we lost him, again literally, just when we were about to hear a GREAT story… so… there will be a Part 2, for sure! Safe travels, you two. Heartfelt condolences. Thanks for being willing. Next time Ritch will be sitting still in a well-lit room where we can see his whole handsome face. Sendng love. Apologies to all who hung in and those who din't… we'll make it up to you! Most remarkable… even with all of this- Ritch was still HYSTERICAL! All right, everybody, I've got an amazing special episode in store for you all today. So, I've partnered together with the Firing the Man podcast, and Dave and Ken, who run this podcast, have done an amazing job and interviewed Adam Feinberg. Adam had a nine figure exit just a couple of years ago, and he dropped some massive knowledge bombs as to the actionable steps that he took in order to grow his brand, big enough that he had a nine-figure exit where the majority of his revenue was coming from Amazon. So, there's a lot to dig into today. Okay, so make sure you take some notes. And then when you're done with this episode, make sure you go follow Firing the Man podcast by David and Ken.Adam (00:00:44) - You have to if you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to keep your expenses reasonable and you have to be willing to take risk. And if you don't take risks and take chances, you're just not going to succeed over the long haul. Kind of following strategies correctly pays off.Adam (00:01:02) - We also invested a lot of money in advertising and building up our brands, which I think is really, really important on Amazon. I kind of learned from it that it's kind of better in a lot of instances, to be the big fish in a little pond than like, the eighth best fish in a big pond. Amazon.com once you have momentum, if you're in the top couple listings in the category, you don't want to give it up no matter what. So I would start and people would laugh. There'd be like your air shipping, solar lights, and the solar lights cost $15 to air strip and you only make ten bucks on each one. Why are you doing that? And I said, it's worth it because we don't want to lose our rank on Amazon.Intro (00:01:43) - Welcome, everyone, to the Firing the Man podcast, a show for anyone who wants to be their own boss. If you sit in a cubicle every day and know you were capable of more, then join us. This show will help you build a business and grow your passive income streams in just a few short hours per day.Intro (00:02:01) - And now your host, serial entrepreneurs David Schwimmer and Ken Wilson.David (00:02:06) - Welcome everyone to The Firing Man podcast. On today's episode, we have the privilege to interview Adam Feinberg. Adam is the CEO of Web Deals Direct and Amazon FBA business that is home to more than 30 brands. Adam recently sold his business to perch, a technology driven commerce company that acquires and operates top Amazon third party sellers and other direct to consumer brands at scale, resulting in an impressive nine figure earnout. We are really excited to share Adam's story and knowledge with listeners today. Welcome to the show, Adam.Adam (00:02:40) - All right. Thanks for having me. I'm glad to be here.David (00:02:42) - Yeah, absolutely. So first things first, tell us a little bit about your background and how you got to where you are today.Adam (00:02:49) - All right. Well, I used to be in the IT consulting business, and I have a wife who's a physician, and I have two big kids now. My daughter is a freshman in college, but about 10 or 11 years ago, we figured our lifestyle didn't work.Adam (00:03:03) - And as well as I thought I was doing, she told me my job wasn't important. So you stay at home so I could have either been a stay at home dad, or I had to figure out something to do that worked with carpool drop offs and soccer, little league and karate class and all that. So I started running an SEO company at home. I put up a website. I learned a little bit about ranking in Google, helping my wife with her business, and some of her friends with their businesses. And I got lucky with it and put a website on the first page for a bunch of search terms like SEO company, SEO, agency, SEO services, and built up an SEO company up to about $3 million annually for about 4 or 5 years. I have a partner named Richard Bell, and he talked me into expanding the SEO business into the UK in 2012 or so, and we were going along merrily. Google made some changes. It started to become a little bit more difficult as a business to get small business customers competitive and Google rankings.Adam (00:04:10) - We were looking for something else to do. My friend Richard had a chiropractor friend who was selling swim goggles and swim caps and making more money than he was being a chiropractor in 2014 and was making fun of us, that he was doing better than we were with this little side gig, but kind of invited us along at the same time. So I told Ritch to quit doing SEO and to look into this. In 2014, I gave him a gigantic budget of maybe 25,000 bucks. I said, turn it into $100 million. And six years later, here we are. But, you know, there's a couple of things in between then that's pretty much the background of how we got into Amazon. E-commerce was just kind of a side thing, as we saw that digital marketing using search engine optimization was kind of a declining and more. Difficult and challenging business and adventure.Ken (00:05:02) - Yeah, that's pretty awesome. So, Adam, you mentioned you have been an entrepreneur for about 11 years. Is that correct?Adam (00:05:08) - That's correct.Ken (00:05:09) - Awesome. So did you have any fears about jumping over from corporate life to an entrepreneur, or was anything holding you back, or did you just dive right in?Adam (00:05:20) - I was absolutely petrified. I always wanted to become an entrepreneur. My dad was an entrepreneur, my grandparents were an entrepreneur. But we kind of grew into living at our means, living the Washington, D.C. area. Even with my wife being a physician and me having a pretty senior position at Accenture. We would spend every dime we have. So kind of the thought of jumping into corporate life kind of scared the hell out of me. To be honest, one of the things that really made it possible for me to become an entrepreneur was in 2012, we moved to Charlotte. My wife took a new job, the Charlotte Market for doctors, a lot better than D.C. so we kind of got a four for like double the salary and half the house price. So it was really life changing for my ability to kind of be able to take a chance as an entrepreneur.Adam (00:06:16) - When we moved down here, and it kind of gave me a second chance at it. I had some ups and downs in the SEO business when I had my first down in 2012, and that kind of was kind of the leading factor for me to move to Charlotte. I plan to get another job in the IT business, and the only thing that prevented me from doing that now is I had 15 years of telecom experience, and it's a banking town in Charlotte and no one really wanted me. So I was sitting at home with nothing to do. I figured I give SEO another punt, so that's kind of where it's at. But really what helped me is my wife was able to cover all the expenses. We went from having like a 4 or $5000 mortgage down to $1,000 a month down in Charlotte. And I really think that really having a manageable expenses is really super duper key in becoming an entrepreneur at first. And I really had to produce nothing other than my wife said it was deck and vacation money.Adam (00:07:15) - So I think that's really is something. I was super lucky about that a lot of other entrepreneurs don't have. a lot of my friends that sell on Amazon, even some that do it full time, they started doing both a full time job and like an Amazon side gig, and I was able to do the SEO business as a full time business. And then the Amazon business is a full time business.David (00:07:37) - Okay. So knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself at the beginning of that journey?Adam (00:07:44) - Really? Well, I think like the biggest, the biggest things are you have to if you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to keep your expenses reasonable and you have to be willing to take risk. And if you don't ...

This episode features host Dr. Mark Hoffman and guest Dr. Jessica Ritch as they discuss the lack of menopause education and research during medical training, and the necessity for practitioners to learn more about menopausal symptoms and management strategies. The episode begins with Dr. Ritch, a minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon, describing her path into menopause care, including the development of her podcast, EnRitched Menopause. She touches on the role of laboratory workup in menopause, but emphasizes the patient's symptoms are more important to address than numerical values on labs. She then delves into treatment options, including the complexities of hormone replacement therapy, and the multifactorial nature of sexual function issues. Most importantly, the physicians emphasize listening to patients, offering comprehensive care beyond hormone therapy, and utilizing resources like podcasts to educate both practitioners and patients. Finally, they explore new treatments and the potential future advancements in menopause care. --- EARN CME Reflect on how this Podcast applies to your day-to-day and earn free AMA PRA Category 1 CMEs: https://earnc.me/I7Ougz --- SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Introduction 08:52 - The EnRitched Menopause Podcast: A Resource for Patients and Practitioners 15:22 - Common Patient Presentations of Menopause 20:43 - The Role of Laboratory Evaluation of Hormone Levels 24:20 - Testosterone in the Menopausal Patient 27:13 - Navigating Hormone Therapy: Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone 31:03 - Physiologic Hormonal Changes in Menopause 35:00 - Shared Decision-Making 39:00 - Exploring Sexual Function and Libido in Menopause 45:38 - The Power of a Physician's Support and Trusted Advice 50:09 - Innovative Approaches and Future Directions in Menopause Care --- RESOURCES EnRitched Menopause Podcast: https://podtail.com/en/podcast/enritched-menopause/welcome-to-enritched-menopause/ Rosy App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rosywellness&pli=1 (Google) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/rosy-womens-sexual-health/id1444780510 (Apple)

In this episode, she shares insights gained from interviewing several dozen Latter-day Saint women who came of age in the ‘60s and ‘70s. She shares their wrestles and how the friction these women experienced shaped their lives and testimonies. Robin also invites women to reflect on how they can bring greater light to the world around them through their own unique gifts and talents, a role she sees as divinely female. Discovering Meredith Edgar is one of my best memories of 2023. In Part 1 of this episode, get to know this singer/songwriter who was born in San Francisco. Her parents had been here a while, but soon after giving birth to Meredith, the family moved around a bit, first to the South, then to the Northeast, and finally, back to the South Bay. "Silicon Valley" was vastly different than the other places Meredith spent her early life in. When her family moved there, she was in third grade and happy to be in a more diverse place. She ended up spending her middle and high school years in the South Bay, eventually spending more and more time in The City. Music was always an integral part of Meredith's life. As she puts it, her parents have "eclectic taste in music." She says that there was always music playing—at home, in the car. Her dad also played guitar. Meredith started playing violin at 4. Later, she joined her junior high choir. And by the time high school rolled around, she had started playing guitar, writing songs, and playing out. "Out" at that time meant open mics at Red Rock Coffee in Mountain View, and Meredith shares the story of her first time doing that. She says that she's deeply grateful to have found music, fast-forwarding to tell the story of her dog's passing away in late September of this year and how playing helped her grieve. Then we go back again to her late-teen years. Meredith was ready to not be in the suburbs anymore. She and her friends came to SF to go to shows or go dancing at spots like Pop Scene (330 Ritch) and 1984 (Cat Club). When she made the leap north to live in The City, she didn't play out right away. But the South Bay band she was still a part of fizzled out. When she first got here, she was in a bad relationship that also eventually ended. After that, Meredith's music picked back up. She worked at Macy's in cosmetics and shares a fun sidebar about kittens and puppies up for adoption over the holidays at the department store. Around 2007 or so, she picked up music yet again, writing, playing out, doing solo shows, playing originals and covers. She preferred to be solo because of her desire to be self-sufficient. We end Part 1 with a chat about her siblings. Meredith's brother is six years younger than she is and is an artist here in The City. Her sister is a year older than her, but didn't grow up with the family. In fact, they didn't know about her until Meredith was 18. She says that they're good friends now. Check back next week for Part 2 and a bonus episode of Meredith playing a few songs just for you. In this week's Sherlock Says, OH NO RACISM! We're back in the Marvel Milieu Mines to dig out another helping of the Guy Ritchie film series Sherlock Holmes - this time, the 2011 film, A Game of Shadows. And........ uh oh, guys. Discussions abound about the relative lumpiness of beloved actor and Chernobyl star Jared Harris, Guy Ritchie's persistent and weird and utterly incorrect belief that he knows what the Roma are all about, and why exactly the hosts of this podcast found this film in a $3 bargain bin coincidentally just as they were preparing to record. It's like some twisted form of kismet! We're also leveling our cannons at the (checks notes) RWBY fandom, apparently!Editor's Note: Any statements made by any and all podcast editors editors vis a vis piracy in this episode are the personal opinion of that individual and do not necessarily reflect the stated opinion of the podcast or its distributors, but are unimpeachable and objectively correct. This week we are wrapping up season 5 with two amazing guests! I'm talking with Eric Knight & Ritch Esra of MUBUTV (Music Business Television) in Los Angeles, CA. These guys have a combined goldmine of knowledge and advice that covers the whole gambit of the music industry. Ritch worked at two record labels; A&M in radio promotion and Arista in A&R where he had the privilege of working with the legendary Clive Davis who has signed some of the biggest artists in the world including Whitney Houston and Kelly Clarkson. Eric has opened for such acts as KISS, Dave Matthews Band, Aerosmith and Kid Rock. He started his own artist management company Persistent Management™ not only for his own career as an artist but also to create a vehicle for other artists to achieve their artistic vision and integrity. Their MUBUTV Insider Series and Insider podcast is similar to my YOU CAN Make A Living In The Music Industry podcast as they have guests from all over the industry sharing knowledge that will help you make a living in music no matter what area you are pursuing. We are a companion series to each other and I can't recommend them enough to check out (after you listen to this episode of course!) We are discussing the importance of being educated about your chosen career path. Why you no longer need a record deal to be successful. Why you have to be a jack of all trades AND a master of all. Plus, learning who your audience is, finding where they are, then going after them. And we discuss how MUBUTV's goal is to educate, empower and engage your music career. Sponsors: Edenbrooke Productions - We offer consulting services and are offering listeners a 1-hour introductory special. To request more info on consulting services, email Marty at contact@johnmartinkeith.com. In this episode we discuss: *The importance of internships. *The Music Business Registry. *Become educated about your chosen career path. *MUBUTV (Music Business Television) is a companion type podcast to YOU CAN Make A Living In The Music Industry. *How to listen to songs for A&R. *The criteria of the kind of artists today has changed because of a copy model (CDs, tapes, etc.) to an access model (streaming for free). *Artists signings today are not just about who is successful or about their music. Today its about who they are, where are they from, what do they represent? What are their values? *You no longer need a record deal to be successful. *The real challenge today is the ability to get someone's attention. *You must find an audience for your music before A&R or labels will put time, energy and effort into you. *We are no longer just artists. We are business leaders. *A&R was a faith based business. That model changed with technology. *Today technology allows us to ask if there is a market for my music without A&R. *Who is my audience? *If you don't know who your audience is at the beginning of your career, start making a serious commitment to learning who they are. *Being an artist who has been signed to a label and also an indie. *Find where your niche is, that narrow world where you can build your career. *Major labels are amplifiers to a career. *Adapting is the key. *A booking agent won't sign you as an indie unless you can sell at least 300-500 seats on your own. *You have to be a jack of all trades and a master of all. *Learning who your audience is, finding where they are and going after them. *The more you know, the more valuable you become to companies. *MUBUTV's goal is to educate, empower and engage your music career. *Study the lives of other successful people in the industry. *www.mubutv.com *www.youtube.com/mubutv BIO: Ritch Esra | Co-Founder I started my career in 1978 at Record World, a leading trade magazine and have spent my entire career in this industry. From 1980 - 1987 I worked at two record labels; A&M in radio promotion and Arista in A&R where I had the privilege of working with the legendary Clive Davis. In 1986, I began teaching several music business courses at various schools including Trebas Institute of Recording Arts, UCLA Extension, SAE (School for Audio Engineering) and Musicians Institute where I continue to teach today. MUBUTV™is a blend of my passion for music as well as educating artists and others who have a strong curiosity about music, technology and the new emerging models within the business. Eric Knight | Co-Founder As an independent recording artist, I have taken the contemporarily appropriate “do-it-yourself” attitude to a whole new level; Having opened for such acts as KISS, Dave Matthews Band, Aerosmith and Kid Rock, I have worked tirelessly to introduce my original music to the masses. Throughout my career, I have worked on both the performing and business sides of the music industry. Besides being an accomplished musician with a strong D.I.Y. work ethic, I started my own artist management company Persistent Management™ not only for my own career as an artist but also to create a vehicle for other artists to achieve their artistic vision and integrity. My band Rock act Disciples of Babylon has put everything I've learned throughout my career to the test in order to build a self sustaining career that is totally autonomous and completely independent. My current and most ambitious project, Symbiotic Nation™ is a new entertainment company startup with a mission to reinvent the entertainment industry completely. “Think Google of the new entertainment industry.” I am a voting member to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Science [NARAS] and The Latin Recording Academy [LARAS] Grammy Awards. As a result, I have lectured and conducted several workshops over the years with students at the Berklee School of Music in Boston as well as my alma mater Musicians Institute [MI] in Los Angeles. MUBUTV™ is the ultimate vehicle where I feel there is a genuine opportunity for artists and musicians like myself to empower themselves in order to survive as well as thrive in this new era.
Newcomer Franklin Ritch joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen in the ArieScope Studio to discuss the making of his debut feature THE ARTIFICE GIRL. From learning his craft through acting in theater and making short films… to tackling the incredibly difficult subject matter of child predators and artificial intelligence with a minimal cast in an (almost) single location story for his first feature film… to the decision to cast himself as one of the main characters… to working with the great Lance Henriksen… to the delicate process of directing a child actor through heavy dialogue that deals with child abuse and futuristic technology… to shooting during the pandemic on a schedule that broke production up over a year and a half… THE ARTIFICE GIRL is a film that begs to be seen and Franklin is definitely a filmmaker to watch! The boys also discuss “intermissions” in films, have another brief geek-out over STAR WARS, and debate the pros and cons of bringing actors back from the dead to the silver screen.
