Day 3 is here and we have our first guest curator of the 31 Days of Howling Beast. Jeffery X Martin has been tasked to cover The Beast That Killed Women. Not much of a plot here. There's a gorilla who's attacking young nudists in Florida. Police are baffled, tops are non existent…….you get the gist. This is just the first of many guests on this run but this one is pretty great. The post 31 Days of Howling Beasts Day 3 : The Beast That Killed Women (1965) first appeared on Legion.

The regulars from Torchy's are back for another round with Walter Hill's sophomore effort The Driver. This stars Ryan O'Neal as a wheelman for hire who's never been caught and Bruce Dern as The Detective hot on his heels who will go to any length to get his man. We discuss going against type, the film's influence on the modern action film and “failed” attempts at the perfect car chase. W/ Lee Russell, Cameron Scott and Gary Hill. Special thanks to Peter Pedro Osmond for the Torchy's art and Jeffery X Martin for mixing our theme.

Well…..there’s that and two plucky cops who infiltrate an underground fight ring and get way too into it. Gary is joined by special guest Newty of the N.F.W. Podcast and a returning every once in a while Jeffery X Martin to discuss two vet-sploitation films starring some A listers. In Open Season, a couple is accosted and fucked with and eventually hunted by three buds looking for some mediocre thrills and even less plot. In Wolf Lake, Rod Steiger and his buddies are looking for a good time in their annual cabin trip. Little did they know, their captain loses his shit and that leads to murder, rape and jaunty wartime singing. The post Cinema Beef Podcast #133 : Charlie Made Me Do It appeared first on Legion.
Remember that film that took place on a coastal town where they were terrorized by some kind beast of the sea? Strap in, beefers. These films are sort of like that but not really. Iris and I are joined by a returning Jeffery X Martin to discuss two Jaws ripoffs hand picked by X. In Mako Jaws Of Death, Aquaman wannabe Richard Jaekel controls sharks with a special medallion can control and talk to sharks. He uses this to police the ocean and use them for his own nefarious needs. In Up From The Depths, a slimy sea creature attacks hustlers, bikini clad beauties and a whole lot more in the chummy New World jam.
Jeffery X Martin from the Kiss The Goat, The Food Chain, Theme Warriors, and Cinema Beef Podcasts pulls the Movie Stack Jenga pick this week with Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key. The episode starts with discussion of what our vices are and what the key thing that only the other possesses is to unlock it and continues at an accelerated pace to beat an impending ice storm for Matt to get home safely. The film offers much in the discussion of oedipal desires, the relationship minutia of S&M, and alcoholism fueled spousal humiliation. Did we forget to mention the goddess among us that is Edwige Fenech? She has a prominent role in the film that flusters all who are lucky enough to gaze upon her beauty and despair. Screen Kings returns, and we’re off to get our car fixed at the worst possible shadetree mechanic possible. Well, the mechanic is okay, but his dog is mean and ugly. That’s right, it’s time for Cujo! Thrill to our incisive discussion of the movie! Shift uncomfortably in your seat at the mere mention of the word, “cocaine!” Shake your head at Tommy’s great “Literary Agent” character! It’s a lot of fun, and you don’t have to get bitten on the nose to enjoy it. Join Thomas S. Flowers, Jeffery X Martin, and Duncan Ralston for this very special episode of Screen Kings! Welcome to the inaugural episode of Screen Kings! Imagine being at a crowded, noisy bar by yourself when you happen to overhear a fascinating conversation about Stephen King movies. You crane your neck, trying to get a better handle on it. By the time you realize what’s going on, it’s over, like an ephemeral cupcake. Join Thomas S. Flowers, Jeffery X Martin and Duncan Ralston as they talk about the strange and dangerous world of Stephen King movies, starting with Brian DePalma’s 1976 classic, Carrie. Hopefully he’ll come back and talk with us about the rest of it but he went in depth on a bunch of his films. We had a great time chatting with him and we hope you enjoy it. You folks think “entitlement” is a new behavioral trend? Get off our respective lawns! Teenagers have going off the deep end for years. Join us for a new Cinema Beef, where we tackle the private world of Privileged Bitches. Whether it’s popular bitches, like in JAWBREAKER and HEATHERS, rapey boys like in MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH or a teenage gang of impossibly beautiful punks in CLASS OF 1984. your hosts Gary Hill and Jeffery X Martin worm their way in to even the most exclusive of social circles. Quit trying to make “fetch” work and GET OFF OUR LAWNS. But download the show. Stream it. Something. Really, though. Keep off the grass. Jesus. How many times have we had this same conversation?
Once upon a time, not too long ago, homosexuality was a strange dirty secret. Hollywood was never quite sure how to acknowledge it. This all changed when the HIV/AIDS epidemic began, so on this Cinema Beef Podcast, we look at three extremely different views of homosexuality B.P. (Before “Philadelphia”). Join The Beardmaster, Gary Hill, his ward, Professor X, and special guest, Wildman Willis Wheeler, as they look at William Friedkin’s “Cruising,” Jack Sholder’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” and the amazingly flamboyant “Can’t Stop the Music,” starring the Village People. Grab your glass eyeball, the kids and your wits because Cinema Beef is back with a real doozy. I am joined by my permanent co-host, Jeffery X Martin, as we trudge into some awkward territory. X has programmed three very connected Kurt Russell films for us to forge on through. First up, Snake takes on fabulous bad guys, punks and dated technology in Escape From New York. Then, Russell plays scumbag number one when he kidnaps a rich bitch with hilarious and creepy results in Overboard. Finally, we take to the high seas where Kurt comes full circle, tortures a stuffy businessman’s family and becomes nautical Jesus in Captain Ron. Hope you guys like the new format. It’s only gonna get weirder! Links Kiss The Goat 6.5 Feet Under Sloppy Seconds
Cinema Beef is back once again guns a blazing for yet another reboot. I am joined by Jeffery X Martin for a triple feature of epic proportions. Well two of them anyways. First up, join The Duke, Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin as they detox and kill baddies in a small western town in Rio Bravo from 1959. Then, we travel to a California ghetto where crime is high and the gang members are expert marksmen. All this and some revenge stuff in a police station in John Carpenter’s classic Assault on Precinct 13 from 1976. Finally, we dig in on the beef of this episode. We cover the debacle that is the shootier, gorier and much lamer Precict 13 redux from 2005. Links Kiss The Goar, 6.5 Feet Under Music “My Rifle, My Pony and Me” Peformed by Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan “A Gringo Like Me” Performed by Peter Tevis and Ennio Morricone and his orchestra “The Trooper” Performed by Iron Maiden
