2.Michael Vlahos as Germanicus joins Gaius in examining the elite obsession with Jeffrey Epstein through a historical lens of witchcraft and sorcery accusations. Gaius introduces an analogy involving Louis XIII using accusations of witchcraft to explain political assassinations, applying this framework to the modern overclass fascination with Epstein. He suggests elites cast Epstein as a sorcerer figure to absolve themselves of complicity in his crimes and their own participation in corruption. Germanicus agrees, arguing that the atheistic ruling class deploys Epstein as a fallen angel archetype, framing him as an unstoppable supernatural force of seduction so they can claim victimhood rather than confronting systemic corruption. Germanicus illustrates this dynamic with a story from The Howling about monks imprisoning the devil to prevent war, symbolizing humanity's desire to externalize evil rather than confront personal sin. The sheer volume of released Epstein files acts as contracts for sold souls, reinforcing the narrative that an external devil bears responsibility. Germanicus concludes these elites are cynical materialists who, unable to comprehend spiritual dynamics or acknowledge their own guilt, retreat to ancient superstitions to explain their entrapment and exonerate themselves from the corrupt world they lead.3.Michael Vlahos as Germanicus explores with Gaius the seventeenth-century practice of dynastic marriage as a superior geopolitical tool compared to modern warfare's impulse toward total destruction. Gaius highlights the unions connecting the Hapsburg, Bourbon, and Stuart empires, observing that the magic of resolving conflict through marriage has been lost entirely. Germanicus explains that these networks of bloodlines created a unified European sensibility and stability that limited war's severity because monarchs were cousins bound by family obligation and shared aristocratic culture. Wars remained limited affairs rather than existential struggles for national survival. Germanicus attributes the loss of this restraint to the French Revolution, which replaced aristocratic connections with religious nationalism and a Darwinian struggle for survival, culminating in the total wars of the twentieth century that devastated entire civilizations. While true dynastic geopolitics has vanished from international relations, Germanicus observes a strange egalitarian counterpart emerging in the American overclass through the nepo baby phenomenon. He argues that elite families in Hollywood and politics now pass down wealth and status across generations, mimicking aristocratic patterns without the intergenerational stability, diplomatic utility, or civilizational responsibility characteristic of Roman senatorial families or royal European houses.

For this Healing 101 episode, I wanted to focus on something that quietly underpins so much of our mental health, so I sat down with Annalie Howling to talk about guilt, shame, and why understanding the difference really matters. We break it down in a simple, relatable way - how guilt is about what we do, while shame becomes a painful belief about who we are - and why shame can be so corrosive to our self-worth, relationships, and recovery. Annalie explains how shame often sits underneath anxiety, addiction, perfectionism, and people-pleasing, and shares compassionate, practical ways to start loosening its grip and move towards self-compassion instead.Find Annalie:Website: https://annaliehowling.com/Book: https://annaliehowling.com/unapologetic/Instagram: @annaliehowlingStay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. Movie Meltdown - Episode 654 Sam Drog returns as we use this moment in time to stop and take a look at the state of the media that we love. We examine things like… kids watching black and white movies, shooting movies vertically, the look of Super 8 film, watching multiple versions of vintage films, the general population talking about 'movies today', different eras of older directors, a new wave of CG technology, add to cart links during commercials, stories can re-wire your brain and fighting robots to reclaim our humanity. And as we recalibrate the measure of suck, also delve into…mummy movies, a curiosity relic, James Cameron, a whole new level of sellout, pop culture surfing, old man rage bait, loading a film camera, KPop Demon Hunters, this need for things to make sense can be weaponized, Stranger Things, coming full circle on the way we consume our media, Skynet nightmares, the many versions of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Yoda awareness, creating memories with friends vs experiencing entertainment by yourself, AI as your own personal operating system, Japanese fan culture, field testing Howling 2, THX 1138, the modern way of watching TV shows, time is weird, Barbie, frictionless consumerism, distracting you from existential panic, I kind of miss the process of thinking my own thoughts and the horrors of server farms. "I guess it distracts you from existential panic?"
White Dwarf readers of a certain vintage will undoubtedly remember Fred Reed's iconic Howling Griffons space marine army. Then-Games Workshop store worker Fred showcased the stunning force in issue 179 (November 94), and it had a runout in the mag's battle report a month later.Fred's army was a source of inspiration to many young hobbyists in the mid-90s and is still talked about more than 30 years later. One man who's gone above and beyond in his nostalgia, however, is Jonny Watson of the Jonny Watson Gaming YouTube channel. Jonny did the ultimate homage to Fred's Howling Griffons by assembling and painting his own tribute act.I had the pleasure of chatting to Jonny about this project and the opportunities it brought him, from interviewing Fred Reed himself to being featured on the hallowed pages of White Dwarf. We covered his origin story, returning after the inevitable deep freeze, and how running a YouTube channel can supplement and enhance your hobby when you're not playing the algorithm game.

#198 - A story of wild trails, darker nights, and a love that wouldn't let go. I sat down with author and long-distance hiker Wing Williams to unpack his “howling twenties,” the constant motion that took him across 49 states, and the quiet rituals that hid a growing addiction. From Mount Washington to the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail, Wing explains how the woods taught him endurance and community while alcohol promised relief from an unseen torment he now names as spiritual warfare. What follows is a candid look at rock bottom: seizures, medical detox, and the moment pride finally broke into surrender. Wing shares why asking for help is the bravest first step, how family showed up when it counted, and why spiritual and medical support must work together when alcohol has become a lifeline and a trap. We also explore the stark difference between hiking with a bottle and living strong in sobriety, the loneliness of being misunderstood, and the humble daily practices that keep recovery honest.Cinereal, Wing's new memoir, threads these pieces into a story about addiction, faith, and redemption that is both gritty and life-giving. You'll hear practical insights on recognizing early warning signs of dependency, how long trails like the AT and PCT become blueprints for resilience, and what it means to rebuild identity on purpose instead of performance. If you've ever felt lost in the silence after the summit, this conversation offers a handhold: hope is real, healing is possible, and you don't have to walk alone. If this episode moved you, tap follow, leave a quick review to help others find the show, and share it with a friend who needs to hear that redemption is still on the table. To learn more about Wing and his book check out wingwilliams.com and give him a follow on Instagram @cinerealememoir.Want to be a guest on Journey with Jake? For this year's Halloween episode we thought we unleash our inner beasts to track the evolution of the werewolf across a century of cinema! This episode is a deep-dive comparison of five landmark films that shaped the lycanthropic curse on screen. We jump to the legendary 1981 FX Showdown, pitting The Howling's aggressive, full-body practical effects against the painful, black-comedy genius of An American Werewolf in London's transformations. We debate which film delivered the most jaw-dropping practical effects and defined the look of 80s werewolf. We then analyze Universal's The Wolf Man (1941), exploring how Lon Chaney Jr. established the universal horror archetypes of the cursed victim, the full moon, and the silver bullet while we contrast it with attempts to bring the wolf back into the modern era, contrasting the Gothic-period spectacle of The Wolfman (2010) and then give our honest opinion on the latest iteration of the wolf man with the psychological thriller take of The Wolf Man (2025).Join us as we discuss the horror, the heart, and the sheer technical artistry that goes into transforming a man into a monster—and decide which hairy hide takes home the "Golden Howl Award." Cheers to the Craft! On this Episode we continue our journey on taste NA beer, we include Bero's Kingston's Golden Pils, Coffee Draught, Edge Hill Hazy IPA, and Double Tasty West Coast Style IPA.Sip On This! Two friends, three werewolves, zero restraint. In this episode, Dave and Tom sink their teeth into Wes Craven's very regrettable Cursed (2005), the very '80s Silver Bullet, based on the Stephen King graphic novel Cycle of the Werewolf, and the absolutely unhinged Howling II. Starring Christopher Lee. Grab a Dunkin refresher for Tom and an old fashioned for Dave, avoid the full moon, and come for the horror… stay for the gay innuendo.

Today I'm joined by the brilliant Annalie Howling - a performance coach, trauma specialist and author whose story is honestly fascinating. She opens up about hitting complete burnout at 29, when life looked perfect from the outside but felt totally wrong on the inside. As she puts it, she wasn't intolerant to gluten… she was intolerant to her life.We talk about how childhood shame and perfectionism can follow us into adulthood, how that shows up in things like anxiety and people-pleasing, and what it really means to start showing up as your authentic self. It's such an open, powerful chat and I think a lot of you will really relate to this one.Find Annalie:Website: https://annaliehowling.com/Book: https://annaliehowling.com/unapologetic/Instagram: @annaliehowlingStay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. Welcome to Your Average Grow (YAG): Chapter Two!The community is central to YAG—as Howling mentioned, you guys are YAG, we're just a part of it". Following the unexpected departure of co-host Johnny, Rev along with Stoney Alpinist and Howlingbuds are joined by their friends TooTall and Phive. Chapter Two sees YAG evolve into a new, community-focused format. Rev has decided not to replace Johnny with another permanent co-host, he won't force something that can't be forced. Instead, the main show will transition to a rotating host of several different people within the community. This new structure is designed to highlight the community's curiosity and knowledge. Guests will co-host episodes dedicated to topics they are passionate about or where they can chat with specific people, allowing the community to ask questions they so badly want answered. While the show is moving forward with one main host (instead of two "jackass idiots"), the tone remains candid, though Rev jokes there will be less “fucks”.Bottom line, we ain't going anywhere. Welcome to this new chapter, we're glad you're here.Consider the sourceR.I.P Captain America, my co-pilot, shadow and best friend
