He has to spend it all in 30 days with nothing left. John Candy, Pat Hingle and a whole slew of faces you know show up in this. Up next, we go on the road with Lightning Boy with Crossroads. The post Last Call Of Torchy's #8 : Brewster's Millions (1985) first appeared on Legion.
The return of Two Drink brings you a tale of high adventure. Well. Less adventure with more hairy men. When a college professor gets ahold of an artifact, it transports him to the planet Gor. A land where shoulder pads are everywhere and the headgear is bonkers. The prof is tasked to become one of the brave warriors so they can recover a glowing rock that was stolen by Ollie Reed and his crew. Genre legends Paul Smith, Jack Palance (for 2 minutes) and douche bag Arnold Vosloo shine in this sword and sandal turd. Watch with us with the link below! The post Two Drink Minimum Commentaries : Gor (1987) first appeared on Legion.
The Torchy’s boys are back to discuss a favorite of Gary’s but a first time watch for one of us with the motor-driven, leather clad, two-fisted rock and roll fable from Streets Of Fire from 1984. This tells the tale of Tom Cody (Michael Pare) who is an ex-soldier who is called back home to rescue his ex-girlfriend (Diane Lane) when she is kidnapped by The Bombers who are a ruthless biker gang led by Raven Shaddock. (Willem Dafoe) Along with her shady manager (Rick Moranis) and a street smart mercenary (Amy Madigan), they shoot and burn their way through to make it home for a final showdown. We talk about many things including Muppets on this edition that will have you sweating buckets without being hot. The post Last Call At Torchy's #7 : Streets Of Fire (1984) first appeared on Legion.
Welcome to the world of Yor. Where massive lizards bite, the men are extra hairy and laser blasts are a thing because aliens………This is just the thing to bring Two Drink back to form. Gary is joined by Cameron Scott and Willis Wheeler to watch Reb Brown slay beasts and neanderthals alike in this strange but enjoyable epic. The post Two Drink Minimum Commentaries : Yor, The Hunter From The Future (1983) first appeared on Legion.
We are a literal chain of fools on the latest edition. Iris and Gary are joined by Jerry Cortez aka Mr. Venom to discuss two films where prisoners are on the run and chained together. When two inmates escape from a prison transport, they are forced to fight opposition and their own racial tensions. Sidney Poitier and Tony Curtis star in The Defiant Ones. Then, Pam Grier and Margaret Markov make a run from their abusive and very hot prison digs to plot against a slimy pimp/drug kingpin and possibly start a revolution. We get two days in the hotbox with our review of Black Mama, White Mama from 1973. The post Cinema Beef Podcast : Tethered Pursuit (The Defiant Ones 1958/Black Mama, White Mama 1973) first appeared on Legion.
The Torchy’s boys head to California for this installment when we cover the flick that boomed the buddy cop genre into high gear with 48 Hours. Nick Nolte is a hard nosed cop who’s dealing with two escaped baddies. He needs the help of Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) to find these cop killers and have some animosity and laughs along the way. This film brings back Walter Hill alums James Remar, Sonny Landham, Peter Jason and Brion James back into the fold. The hits and the gunfire are aplenty in this gem. The post Last Call At Torchy's #6 : 48 Hours (1982) first appeared on Legion.
Gary and special guests Lee Russell, Leah Hardy and Cameron Scott discuss two homage films…..call em ripoffs of the most popular possesion film that most people love but a majority of the panel hates. They are aping The Exorcist as we cover Abby and Beyond The Door both from the great year of 1974. The post Cinema Beef Podcast : Already Been Spewed (Beyond The Door/Abby) first appeared on Legion.
The Beefers are back and are gonna make a withdrawal from the bank of paranoia and deception with these two features. Iris and Gary are joined by Mike White of The Projection Booth to discuss two films about finding large sums of dirty money and the consequences of taking it. In A Simple Plan, two brothers and their buddy find a duffle bag full of loot whilst on a hunt. Mistrust, desperation and death all become a factor in the gem starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton and some other greats in this underseen Sam Raimi classic. Then, The Coen Brothers give us one of their best efforts with Josh Brolin being persued by a most menacing Javier Bardem over a large sum of money and just general integrity. You know because a psychopath has to have integrity. Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson and some other wonderful actors star in No Country For Old Men. The post Cinema Beef Podcast : Take The Money Then Blood (A Simple Plan/No Country For Old Men) first appeared on Legion.
Join Gary and Iris for some stale nog or possibly an Irish coffee while we discuss two films in which two delinquents become unlikely stars in their respective or disrespectful forms of media only to fall from mediocrity. The post Cinema Beef Podcast : Certifiable Idols first appeared on Legion.
Change out of your civies and load up your blanks. The Torchy’s boys are hitting the swamps of Louisiana with Jamie Sammons of Horror In The House Of Sammons to discuss Southern Comfort from 1981. We are back in the fires of the boiler room once again with two installments of this hit anthology series. In Missing Persons, a girl with a heavy past is forced to babysit two brats while fighting the urge to eat everything in the house including the brats. This leads to a story about the brats’ father wanting a brand new life following an auto wreck. In The Light At The End Of The Tunnel, a loser that is afraid of the dark is forced into a job in the sewer leading into a story about a sleazy store owner forced to live his own nightmare. The gang from Torchy’s mount up with the James/Younger Gang for Walter Hill’s horse abusing, saloon slinging story of brotherly love with The Long Riders from 1980. This tells the tale of end of the gang where they are dodging the law, evading those pesky Pinkertons and chasing that sweet dream. And the women. Yes the women. It has an all star cast including Stacy and James Keach, Robert and Keith Carradine, Nicolas and Christopher Guest and Dennis and Randy Quaid. Not to mention some Walter Hill regulars and some veteran western actors. W/ Lee Russell, Cameron Scott and Gary Hill. Mass carnage all over the streets. YOu get all this and more in Wild Beasts from 1984. Look for another solo review tomorrow from me covering The Beast In The Cellar. Watch Wild Beasts with the link below. The post 31 Days Of Howling Beasts Day 10 : Wild Beasts (1984) first appeared on Legion.
Day 9 of 31 Days of Howling Beasts takes us down south to Mexico to find the mysterious but adorable Beast Of Hollow Mountain. The post 31 Days Of Howling Beasts Day 9 : The Beast Of Hollow Mountain (1956) first appeared on Legion.
Join RJ MacReady as he hits the slopes for this creature feature. When snow bunnies are getting killed by an unknown force, It’s up to character actors Bo Svenson, Clint Walker and Yvette Mimieux to hunt the beast and take him out. Look for me with another solo review tomorrow with The Beast Of Hollow Mountain. The post 31 Days Of Howling Beasts Day 8 : SnowBeast (1977) first appeared on Legion.
Day 7 takes us to England for a real thinker. When a mysterious orb has landed on Earth from an undisclosed location, it is promptly picked up by UK scientists and they are baffled early. Once it hatches and escapes, it starts to abduct 200 of England’s women for it’s experiments. Decent film featuring some great character actors. Check it out with the YouTube link below. The post 31 Days Of Howling Beasts Day 7 : Blood Beast From Outer Space (1965) first appeared on Legion.
Day 6 brings a lizard beast that predates the big guy that doesn’t need mentioning. I hear he’s from Tokyo or something. Donnie Rings has chosen the Harryhausen effects driven The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. When a creature makes himself known from the depths of the earth, everyone is stymied with boat attacks and mysterious accidents. Our creature moves into the city in this stop motion spectacle. See you all again with something from yours truly on Day 7!
Day five brings us another guest being Rik Morgan from the Hail Ming Power Hour amongst others. He picked this delightful gem. When a group of people are shipwrecked in the year 1920, they are greeted by acid baths and some gnarly looking natives in the form of cabbage patch dolls from hell. Had a great time listening to this and I hope you do too. Look for the YouTube link below. See you all again in day 6!
Day 4 brings us one of the great bad movies of all time. Or is it? It’s The Beast Of Yucca Flats featuring the great former Swedish wrestler/actor in the titular role as a rogue Russian scientist who goes on the run, gets blasted by nuclear radiation and wanders the desert looking for people to strangle. Simple plot for a very simple film. We’ll see you all again for day 5!!!!!
Day 3 is here and we have our first guest curator of the 31 Days of Howling Beast. Jeffery X Martin has been tasked to cover The Beast That Killed Women. Not much of a plot here. There’s a gorilla who’s attacking young nudists in Florida. Police are baffled, tops are non existent…….you get the gist. This is just the first of many guests on this run but this one is pretty great.
Day two tells the tale of greed, desire and murderous monsters yearning for fame and blood. That’s what you get with Beast Mode. When an actor is severely injured, they find a double to replace him. Almost. This kid has some scars to clear up and with the help of a miracle cure, it does and with severe consequences. This cream brings out the worst in it’s user with monstrous and murderous results.
Welcome to our monthlong celebration of schlock. There will be lizards, yetis, devils and everything in-between with these 31 days. Let’s start with some high class cinema with the Don Dohler classic NightBeast from 1982. When his space ship is dinged by asteroids, our titular character is crash landed to earth and he is angry. Armed with a man dusting ray gun, claws and a gnarly overbite, he defies and defiles anyone that gets in his way.
Join Suzanne, Derek and Gary to celebrate the tiny dynamo known as Darla who recently has made her trip to the great beyond. We do that by sometimes talking about and watching The Pack from 1977 starring Joe Don Baker. There are some strange occurances around a small island town and all points are leading to a pack of angry dogs that were abandoned. Nobody is safe from these abused pups. Let’s see who’s side you’re on in The Pack! Rest easy, baby girl.
Alright, boppers. The Torchy’s crew are equipped for violence and survival with Walter Hill’s third effort being the action, gang infused The Warriors from 1979. After an effort to unite the major gangs of the five boroughs, that live bunch from Coney Island are blamed for the murder of the ringleader. They are on the run dodging trouble while busting heads with their goal of making it home alive. Do you like Blood From The Core? Here is bonus episode for the free feed to entice you all to join up with the Legion Patreon. We are joined by Suzanne for this little slice of sleaze with Alfred Sole’s Alice Sweet Alice. When a small child is brutally murdered on the day of her first communion, her jealous sister is the prime suspect. Is she mental? What is with the padre being a little too chummy? What will become of the sleazy neighbors cats once they have a thirst for human blood? Find out on this raucous edition of Blood From The Core straight out of Jersey!
The Two Drink Crew is back from hell and are feeling frisky to discuss this classic that could be better than it’s predecessor. When free wheeling Mary Lou scorns her boyfriend on prom night, his prank causes her to catch fire. When her vengeful spirit is released on a young and chaste girl, hilarity and incest run wild with outrageous results in this amazing sequel. The panel includes Gary Hill, Derek Bougious and Cameron Scott
Gary and Iris are traveling on this one. We have been vaxxed but we are feeling slightly aglow. Could it be radiation? We are back to discuss two films where radiation makes people insanely violent. When a scientist’s plane lands, the people inside start a flurry of violence that spreads all over the city and all places in between in Umberto Lenzi’s Nightmare City. Then, a chemical spill causes the inhabitants of an agricultural research lab to become infused with blisters and violent tendencies in Warning Sign.
Bored on a Friday night? Looking for somewhere to have some fun? Why not hang with the Beef gang with two jams where young people play where they shouldn’t be playing. Because you know. Zombies. When a group of hippies decide to go play with a resurrection spell that they think is a joke, they bring forth the actual undead in Bob Clark’s Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things. Then, punks playing in a cemetery run afoul of zombies and a kick ass soundtrack in Dan O’ Bannon’s 1985 classic The Return Of The Living Dead.
After festering in the boiling room for a short time, the Elm Street kids are burning and dreaming of mediocrity once again. We’re nearing the end of season one of the show and we’ve hit Krueger bedrock with two episodes that sort of work for us. In Love Stinks, a guy with commitment issues loses love, gains a stalker and a whole lot more. This is paired with a second half (like they do) that includes Jeffery Combs as sadistic pizza restaurant manager with a new secret ingredient. In the The Art Of Death, a lovelorn artist falls in love all while his creation is coming off the page and into the real world and causing havoc.
The regulars from Torchy’s are back for another round with Walter Hill’s sophomore effort The Driver. This stars Ryan O’Neal as a wheelman for hire who’s never been caught and Bruce Dern as The Detective hot on his heels who will go to any length to get his man. We discuss going against type, the film’s influence on the modern action film and “failed” attempts at the perfect car chase. W/ Lee Russell, Cameron Scott and Gary Hill. Special thanks to Peter Pedro Osmond for the Torchy’s art and Jeffery X Martin for mixing our theme.
The beefers are back and Gary is green with glee. Emerald green that is. He almost had to fly solo because his co-hosts were on location in Canada learning about the wonders of bagged milk. He had to get some help in the form of “Lady” Leah Hardy from They Must Be Destroyed On Sight Podcast to travel into the storm and to the land of Oz with the Motown infused The Wiz and the trippy but “child friendly” Return To Oz.
Hey, Legionaires and other ruffians! Come one and come quick like the star of the first subject of a brand new thing. This is Last Call At Torchy’s. It is a show in which Lee Russell (They MUST Be Destroyed On Sight!) Cameron Scott (Cineme Degeneration) and Gary Hill (Cinema Beef/Two Drink Minimum Commentaries/Blood From The Core) cover the catalog of a real Renaissance man of cinema, Mr. Walter Hill. For our first outing, we lace up our gloves with some heavy hitters including Charles Bronson, Strother Martin and James Coburn for Hard Times 1975. It tells the story of Chaney who is a traveler who packs a whallop who ends up in depression-era New Orleans. Along with his hustlers Poe and Speed, he punches his way to the top of the underground fighting game in The Big Easy.
Iris, Suzanne and Gary are joined by Jeffery X Martin of Kiss The Goat for who guessed it……satanic pact movies! We cover the plaster casting, blue ink baptizing and ivory tickling The Mephisto Waltz. Then, we kiss the ring of out dark overlord with The Legacy.
Come with us to a place where violence runs rampant and your own personal freedoms may be at stake. Well…..there’s that and two plucky cops who infiltrate an underground fight ring and get way too into it. Give us a rock and roll and join us in our lands of personal freedoms and join us for Firepower featuring Australian wunderkind Gary Daniels, that guy that played Dutch in The Karate Kid aka Chad McQueen and the god of destrucity Jim Hellwig aka The Ultimate Warrior. We go through multiple weapons and subplots with myself, Jeffery X Martin and Cameron Scott. Enjoy and watch along with us with the YouTube link provided.
Saddle up, Beefers. We’re gonna take you on a fun and possibly uncomfortable ride. We are covering two somewhat controversial films where the sheriff is inserted into bad towns where they are not accepted. You know. Because they’re controversial. We are doing Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles and The Boss both from 1974.
Gary and Cameron are joined by rock n roller and fellow caster Ricky Morgan to chat about those pesky aliens that just want to pick up the pieces after abducting our great fathers. When a boy’s long missing father resurfaces, he makes a bond with his son that will literally change him forever. In the extra terrestrial sense. It’s weird. It’s wacky. It’s rapey. It’s Xtro from 1982. Watch along with us from the YouTube link provided.
Gary, Suzanne and Iris had to reach for the best gas station speed for this one. Gotta stay awake for this ride. We are covering two remakes about people’s identities are completely up for grabs because aliens of course. We turn off our emotions and then turn on our ugly tears for Phillip Kaufman’s Invasion Of The Body Snatchers ’78. Then, we explore the sport of amphibian eating and the boy who cried wolf in Tobe Hooper’s Invaders From Mars ’86.
Gary is joined by Cameron, Willis and Suzanne to tackle this gem. When secret agricultural dossiers are stolen by master ninjas, it’s up to Chuck Connors and his rag tag trio of fighters to get the information back and kill the baddies. This is a fun one. Watch along with us with the link below.
The Beefers are back with Hero Hero Ghost Show, Duncan and Bo Come Correct, Pick Six Movies and our boss, Bo Ransdell to talk about two films in which renovations are hell on two unsuspecting pairs. When a couple invest in an estate that seems like a killer deal, their world literally falls apart around them. Tom Hanks and Shelly Long star in The Money Pit. Then, two brothers inherit a rare home after their father passes away. They have to make changes to it to make a quick sale but little do they know the menace that awaits them in the form a small but crafty inhabitant. Lee Evans and Nathan Lane bring the laughs and falls in Mousehunt. Subplots and theories will ensue in this one so get excited. Thanks for your patience and continued support.
The Two Drink Crew is back with a rotating panel in effect. Gary is joined by show regular Newty of the NFW Commentaries, Cameron Scott of the Cinema Degeneration and Kyle Poling of Bloodbaths and Boomsticks Podcast to discuss a beloved Canadian gem. Or is it? White folks take shelter in a cabin in a mining town. There may be unwanted intruders that may ruin their fun. Click the link below to watch along with us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUq5C8MiCwA
Suzanne and Gary are back after a bit of an absence to bring you two films that champion the art of the deal. First up, when their boss dies unexpectedly, a rag tag group of salesmen are forced to keep their little lot afloat while pulling insane stunts on the ritzy lot accross the street. Kurt Russell, Gerritt Graham and Jack Warden star in Used Cars. In The Goods, Jeremy Piven lead a team of sales assassins who are gonna save a local guy’s car lot in the most filthy ways possible.
