Today we sit down with Laurence Philips of Hardy Roach Games, an independent designer who creates unique games that focus on themes that dive deeper than your average TTRPG. His one-page games are weird and exciting to play, and now he discusses his brand-new game, Il Fantasmo del Giallo. Step into the world of Giallo, a 20th-century Italian film genre that focuses on switchbacks, misdirection, and mile-high stakes. Il Fantasmo del Giallo is a cinematic, dark, brooding game that focuses on narratives and scenes more than a traditional dice-roller. Drama, Mystery, and Mortality are the main words of the game, and it's an excellent example of the doors that have opened in modern roleplaying. Trauma decks, scene work, and avant-garde lenses to play make for a new take on an old genre. We bring you the 15th episode of our specialty show "Take Out Edition" where we will explore the realms of foreign cinema. Our hosts will take you along their travels all over the globe while diving into some of the most lucid storytelling, savage cannibals, vengeful spirits, sadistic killers, and post-apocalyptic zombie-plagued landscapes. Join us as we dissect the classics that prove sometimes fear comes with subtitles. Our hosts, Cameron Scott and welcoming his first time co-host Suzanne Wilson Cappelletti, as they take you on yet another Italian voyage on this episode with the 1977 Dario Argento directed classic "SUSPIRIA".

Costanza F. è nata e vive a Prato. Finally after an extended absence for a lupus flare I'm back and what an episode to return with because I've got returning guest comics writer Pornsak Pichetshote and first timer legendary comics artist Rafael Albuquerque on with me to discuss their new DC Comics project Absolute Green Arrow. Highlights from the episode include a deep dive into how the creative team is reimagining Oliver Queen not just as an archer but as a mysterious figure in a Giallo inspired murder mystery where corrupt billionaires are the targets, how Scott Snyder and DC editorial granted total creative freedom to reinvent the Green Arrow mythology from scratch, the visual look of the book influenced by 70s thriller textures and a vintage comics like Daredevil providing the feel Rafael and colorist Marcelo Maiolo are bringing to the page, the mystery of Absolute Black Canary or Dinah Lance and why she is the real heart of the story, and the impact of masters of horror comics like Junji Ito and Bernie Wrightson on the series. Follow Pornsak on Instagram Rafael's website Devil's Luck: A Hailstone Story Season 2 Absolute Green Arrow from the publisher WITHOUT THE TRICK ARROWS... WITHOUT THE MONEY... WITHOUT MERCY... WHAT'S LEFT IS THE ABSOLUTE HUNTER! A serial killer is slaughtering corrupt billionaires. The only clue to their identity is the mysterious green arrows sticking out of his victims' corpses. Executive protection specialist Dinah Lance, a.k.a. Absolute Black Canary, is one of the people tasked to uncover this murderer's identity as she investigates her suspects... all familiar DC archers uniquely linked to a recently murdered Oliver Queen. I Know What You Did Last Summer for billionaires, Absolute Green Arrow reimagines the Emerald Archer's mythos into a dangerous, urban horror murder-mystery by Eisner winners Pornsak Pichetshote (Dead Boy Detectives, Infidel) and Rafael Albuquerque (Detective Comics, American Vampire).

Apologies for Laurence's Audio in this episode, the recording was a little strange when it exported from our video call, but I did the best I could. If you have any questions, please message or email me! (Or reach out to Laurence!) Welcome to another episode of Perspective Checks where I sit down with friends and folks from the TTRPG world and discuss what they love about this wonderful hobby! This episode is an early interview for Laurence's upcoming Kickstarter for his Italian horror/mystery cinema inspired Il Fantasma Del Giallo, a game about the actors, their roles, and the thinning line of reality and fiction! It's a neo-noir slasher inspired TTRPG that has some really interesting framing and mechanics, I am looking forward to see how it plays at the table! You can find more of Laurence's games on the Hardy Roach Games itch.io page, or check out his BlueSky thread about giallo movies on his BlueSky. On this episode of the Dads From The Crypt Podcast, the dads travel to Italy to discuss Tenebrae (1982), the ultra-stylish and controversial Giallo thriller from horror master Dario Argento. Joining the show is special guest Joe Gatto, who helps break down one of the director's most brutal and visually striking films.Starring Anthony Franciosa, Daria Nicolodi, and John Saxon, Tenebrae follows a bestselling crime novelist whose visit to Rome sparks a series of grisly copycat murders inspired by his own book. The dads dive into Argento's sharp direction, the film's infamous kills, and its legendary camera work—including one of the most famous tracking shots in horror history. The episode also explores the pounding synth score composed by members of Goblin, the film's themes of violence and media controversy, and where Tenebrae fits among Argento classics like Suspiria and Deep Red.If you love Italian horror movies, giallo thrillers, and classic 80s horror, this deep dive into Tenebrae is a must-listen.Follow Dads From the Crypt! Adrien Brody puts his nose to the grindstone as a detective out to stop a yellow-skinned, mad killer who is abducting females by way of his taxi in Dario Argento's Giallo from 2009, featuring Brody in a dual role and... Not much else according to at least three of us. We discuss the film's lack of signature Argento-isms, whether or not it is a giallo, Adrien Brody's court case against the producers, and much more! Also, the ghost of Skype has infiltrated our new recording digs, making completion of the episode about as difficult as sitting through this movie!
Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! This February we're kicking off our “Fast February” series, where we cover the movies that made Vin Diesel a star and taught the world to live their lives one quarter mile at a time, The Fast & Furious franchise! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest Bill Mueller discuss the one that started it all, 2001's The Fast and the Furious!Limp Bizkit! Ja Rule! Cheesy lines! Chunky boots that would make Guy Fieri jealous! A fittingly quick and entertaining pace! Recognizable Los Angeles locations! Questionable car talk! Exciting new home video technology! Legally purchased DVD players! Overheated manifolds! Reckless contempt for carpooling! Shockingly organized crowds of young, illegal street racers! A guy playing guitar at a party! Product placement for Pizza Hut, Corona, and most-notably, the nitrous oxide brand NOS! A great high-speed heist to open the movie and plenty of (mostly) real stunts and action! Occasional surreal, anime-influenced racing scenes years before the Speed Racer movie came out! A versatile cast of young actors on the verge of stardom, including Vin Diesel with a rare shred of humility, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez laying the foundation for one of cinema's most iconic female action heroes, and Matt Schulze making the most of his very punchable face! A 2001 time capsule which may have borrowed heavily from Point Break, but still has great chemistry between the two leads with some impressive world building and story mechanics, and would surprisingly go on to become one of the biggest and most influential action franchises in movie history! In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on Spring Breakers, The Beekeeper, Lucio Fulci's dance-themed giallo Murder Rock, and Sam Raimi's return to horror, Send Help! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
