“Honor the breath for being able to bring you through the journey that is meant for you in that moment.” –Jen MurrayBreathe! Your breath can save you—really. I'm so excited to talk with Jen Murray, the founder of the High Vibe Healing Collective, about breathwork. Jen talks about letting go of the trapeze and leaping into entrepreneurship and how breath saved them. It's important to have lots of tools at our disposal when you are in spaces that are difficult. Breathwork is one of those tools. Breathwork is both simple and complex. I love the way Jen describes it as both a simple practice you can do daily and an opportunity to go on a journey. At the end, Jen ties it to astrology too — another tool for your tool box.Jen says, “Your body will go to the level of safety that you create for it, and it will also use your breath in a way that nourishes and invites you in.” Let's see what we can invite in with our breath. We talk about: Four portals breathwork can open upYou body taking what it needs from breathworkConscious connected breath — a non-athletic breath, with not holding at top or bottomBreath of belonging and breath groupsBreathwork opening up creativity and productivityHow to bring astrology and breathwork togetherABOUT JENJen Murray (they/them) is the Founder of the High Vibe Healing Collective, using their lived experiences as a white-bodied, queer, loving mama, to breathe new ways of being and belonging. They emphasize inclusivity and conscious co-creation of embodied wellness, uplifting LGBTQ+ communities and inspiring heart-aligned leadership for a more justice-oriented world. Jen sparks joy-filled, loving, cosmically divine communities with a passion for social justice and accountability.LINKSlinkedin.com/in/jen-murray-healthequity www.linkedin.com/company/high-vibe-healing-collective-llc/ https://highvibehealingcollective.com/DOABLE CHANGESAt the end of every episode, we share three doable changes, so you can take what you've heard and put it into action. Action is how change happens.Often we feel like our actions have to be huge to match the bigness of our desires, but we have seen over and over and over again that the little things add up. By stacking up a series of Doable Changes, you will create that big change that you crave. Choose the one that really resonates with you this week and really make it part of your life. Here are Three Doable Changes from this conversation:DAILY BREATH PRACTICE. You can have both a daily breath practice and go on a journey with breathwork. Choose a daily practice, box breath or another specific breath. Schedule time to do it daily. You only need a few minutes. See what happens when you make it a regular part of your day.BREATHE CONSCIOUSLY. We all have to breathe, and fortunately we don't have to think about it all the time. That said spending time consciously breathing can make a difference. What happens if you bring attention and consciousness to your breath?TRY A GUIDED BREATHWORK JOURNEY. Breathwork can take us on a journey. Let a breathwork facilitator take you through breathwork and see where it takes you. Remember and trust that breath will take you where you need to go in the moment.

Lunchtime chat about something we don't often speak enough about… periods. A natural cycle that almost half the population experience once a month. Which is significantly linked with physical and mental health and well-being. I think this short chat is relevant to everyone, with or without a period.-I start by talking about the female athlete triad, what it is, my experiences, and what can support healing & recovery.-Getting my period back after five years!! the day after Scotland becoming the first nation to PASS the bill to provide period products free for everyone. -Finish by talking about period dignity & period poverty- how impactful dehumanizing not having access to period products can be. I have had many cruicual open and honest conversations with Vilius about periods, how I have felt over the years, the worry and angst when I lost my period the official name being hypothalamic amenorrhea and the joy I experienced when it came back- a huge lesson in trusting our bodies and knowing they will balance their selves out when they feel relaxed and at ease.  Female Athlete Triad related resources:Book: No Period. Disordered eating journey #13 with Jen Murray

Wee Stories With People

The scariest and yet most healing podcast for me to share so far. I added this photo to show the visual component of this episode- the search for balance in my mind has manifested in my physical body over the last few years…I haven't had the courage to listen to it back yet- it was very raw and vulnerable to share some of my experiences around disordered eating, but kindly Vilius has had a wee listen and reassures me that it is valuable for others to hear. The main reason I share this podcast is that I firmly believe that eating disorders, issues around food, and diet can consume and steal our time and our potential. Wasting so much energy and time worrying about food can prevent us from being fully present and creating a life we enjoy and gets in the way of us loving ourselves and others fully. Disordered eating and eating disorders are often a symptom to deeper rooted issues... and this is by no means a podcast to share advice. It is simply a podcast to share my own experiences, healing journey, and thoughts in the hope that someone can relate and feel as peace knowing that you are not alone. Unfortunately, there is a lot of shame and stigma attached to these issues, but I hope that it provides us comfort knowing that we are complex multi-faceted beings. We are more than one thing. We are more than our views; we are more than one moment. We can have parts of ourselves that we want to improve and heal from… but that doesn't make us less than, it makes us human. Healing from ‘disordered eating patterns' can be a long journey. Stress and uncertainty can bring old habits, pain, and negative thoughts back into my life for sure- but there is hope in love, acceptance, vulnerability, courage and compassion for ourself and others- words inspired and feelings by many hours reading and listening to Maya Angelou, Jameela Jamil, Brene Brown, Laverne Cox and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman to name a few…I hope to have a conversation about some of these issues with another human being soon. It is really challenging to talk about sensitive topics that I have never really shared out loud into a mic to myself without any feedback from someone else.  There is a range of support and information available online from podcasts to books, to support groups... depending on the stage of your healing journey.BEAT can be a good one to start withMusic played: Stephen Wake, The Old CopperplateThank you again to everyone who has taken the time to listen to the podcast and share feedback!

On May 3, 2017 Jen Murray watched her 10 year old son, Brooks—one-fourth of her quadruplet boys—slowly veer off the track and collapse after running a mile at a community event. She watched, helplessly, as trained medical professionals administered CPR over and over again and heard the words no mother ever wants to hear: "There's no pulse." God saved Brooks' life that day, miraculously raising him from the dead, and in the process, the Murray family found a thankfulness and gratitude for daily life they never had before. Today's episode is a tear-jerker. You might want to have some tissues nearby as you listen to Jen tell the story of that day, and how God has provided for them each day since. Note: Had it not been for the medical professionals who just "happened" to be nearby refusing to give up on Brooks, he wouldn't be with us today. We'd like to take a second to thank all EMS workers who so generously give of themselves, even and especially when they're off duty.
