Podcast out of Glasgow by Paul Shields and Matt Diamond
We're back with the first episode of 2024, a review of the stories from 2023. Let us know if there's anything we missed, what you thought about the stories we did cover or what you'd like to see from us in 2024. As always, all likes, shares and comments welcome.
Our last full length episode for 2023, recapping our thoughts on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as well as the early testimony from the UK Covid Inquiry. A massive thanks to you all for your continued support and have a great Christmas and we'll see you again for what we hope is a happy and healthy New Year. Much love: Matt, Paul and Dave.
This week we're getting into the early stages of the UK's Covid Inquiry - discussing the early testimony, what we thought at the time vs how it panned out and more. We might come back to this again as it progresses, if you want to see/ hear that let us know in the comments or leave the episode a like or a rating where you can.
In this episode we discuss the recent violence in the region, our disappointment with the reactions from our leaders and the need for a ceasefire amongst other related issues. As always, all likes, shares and comments greatly appreciated.
A regular recap episode of the last few week's content for those who prefer the longer episodes. The uptick in both views and plays has been great in recent weeks, thanks for all your support.
In this episode we get into the mountain of made up nonsense that recently came out of The Conservative Party Conference. From 7 bins, to meat taxes and more - we run down the top imaginary things that definitely aren't happening, but the Tories continue to campaign on.
In this episode we're discussing the recent allegations against Russell Brand, the latest of many allegedly inappropriate relationships had by high profile people. We also discuss the recent controversy surrounding Laurence Fox and GB news with regards his clearly misogynistic comments made on mainstream TV.
A regular round up of our recent episodes and more for those of you who prefer the longer format.
This week we're talking about the new trial happening in Glasgow related to safe drug consumption rooms. We discuss our hopes for the trail, some of the objections it has to overcome and chat more generally about the ever changing attitudes towards addiction and addicts as well as what more work is still to be done here. As always, all likes, shares and comments welcome and if you've not subscribed yet, now is as good a time as any.
In this video we get into the increasing levels of incompetency and hubris at the heart of the UK Govt. Topics on their own that are neither new or shocking, but we feel have taken a turn for the even worse in recent weeks as the Tories and Sunak grow increasingly desperate to hold on to the power they have left. Probably telling that in the week since recording a slew of further gaffes and scandals engulf the party and it's government that we didn't even get to include this time. As always, all likes, shares and comments welcome - please also consider subscribing to our content wherever you're engaging with this.
In our latest instalment we chat about the recent "friendly" between Scotland and England. We discuss the stick that Harry Maguire takes just for being Harry Maguire, Bellingham and the dig that the England team displayed and Scotland lacked. We also discuss the notion of respect in regards the booing of the English national anthem and some of the weird takes that have come off the back of that, most notably from a certain high-profile Scot. As always, all likes, comments and shares welcome - what did you think about the match?
For those who prefer the long-form, our latest episode recapping our recent shorter-form content and more. The support for the shorter-form stuff has been really pleasing over the last fortnight or so, so a massive thank you to everyone who liked, shared and commented on the content. This is definitely the way we'll be working going forward, but if you guys have any suggestions or feedback, we're always open to it.
In this video we look at the current actor's and writer's strike action on pay, conditions and the introduction of AI to the industry.
Our latest video, staying on Cinema with thought on new anti-child trafficking movie Sound of Freedom, starring Q-Anon crackpot Jim “Jesus” Caviziel.
This is the first of what will be our new format going forward: shorter, more regular episodes on specific topics. We're trying to gradually make it more of a visual experience for those who watch us on both YouTube and Spotify Video whilst hopefully still catering to the folks who listen in when we post too. We're hoping by making some of our content more easily digestible and algorithm-friendly that we can continue to push ourselves - we've never been shy about trying to mix things up every now and then and we appreciate the few hundred of you have came with us every step of that journey so far. We're really wanting these changes to allow us to talk with you all more often than has been the case recently. We also need to play the game a bit more readily than we have until now, so we'll be a bit more “Youtuby” going forward too with more regular calls to action that can help the channels and show grow - as such, any likes, shares or comments left where you can are a massive help. We appreciate everyone's support over the 5+ years we've been going already and look forward to hopefully dialling in a format that allows us to keep chatting for years to come.
After a raft or recent examples of billionaires doing everything with their money except spend it on something productive that benefits everyone, we ask: Are billionaires ok? Between homemade submarines, cage fights, impulse social media purchases and talk of colonising other planets instead of creating the technology to save the one we have, the answer is probably no!
This week we follow up on recent chats around voter ID and the English local elections by looking at the attempts made to suppress the vote ahead of polls opening. We also take a look at the ridiculous pomp of the coronation and a few of our choice observations off the back of it before discussing Joanna Cherry telling the world she's being cancelled in every tabloid and on every news channel in the country.
This week we chat Biden's recent trip to Ireland, the associated gaffes and him swerving the coronation like the rest of us. We get into the record fine against Fox News for spreading election disinformation and the subsequent sacking of Tucker Carlson as well as start a new segment called Content Club - first up for discussion is Everything, Everywhere All At Once. As always, all likes, comments and shares appreciated:
We get caught up on events since our last episode by chatting about the election of our new First Minister and the early aftermath of that. We get into the Arrest of the former First Minister's husband on suspected fraud charges as well as diving head first back into the nonsensical world of Donald Trump after his recent criminal indictments. Matt clearly came into this one running a bit hot, normal service will be resumed in the next one
Matt stopped smoking this week - it seems to be going surprisingly well. We get into the Hancock text shambles and why he's such an idiot for allowing it to happen. We also chat about the Linekar debacle and how fragile the right wing mindset and agenda really is when a football pundit having an opinion derails both.
This week we're getting into the recent resignation of The First Minister, how shocked we were by the news and what's next for Nicola Sturgeon, The SNP and those looking to replace her.
After a few weeks longer away over Christmas and New Year than expected, we're back and chatting what comes next as well as getting into some of the madness from around the world Including Tate, Kanye, Musk and a few other egomaniacs causing it recently.
This week we're discussing the ongoing energy crisis with City Councillor Matt Kerr and Jess Galloway, representing the Power To The People (Glasgow) campaign group. We chat about how and why the crisis started, how it fits within the wider context of industrial action and general discontent around the country as well as how the group would like to see things change at the various levels of local and UK wide government and the resources they have available to everyone that might help folk get through these challenging and often frightening times.
This week we are back with guests writer/ director Alan Main and cinematographer Cameron Blyth to discuss their new movie addressing mens mental health - True Sickness. We chat about the process of film making from the conception of the idea through to conclusion, influences and the responsibility of helming a project like this and more.
Hard not to talk about the recent passing of The Queen and all the nonsense that has followed it, what kind of King we're getting and why we weren't allowed to talk about if we even want another one. We also chat House of the Dragon and Rings of Power as well as coming back to previous discussion on psychedelics and how reliable the information we get on them is from a few weeks ago.
This week we continue to chat about the ongoing bin-fire that is modern life in the UK and beyond. We get into the spectacle of who can claim to be the biggest a***hole that is The Tory Leadership contest and why their horrible rhetoric isn't actually aimed at you. We discuss whether or not Trump is finally done and what that means for the nutter MAGA movement and for some light relief, get into rumours surrounding a certain Prince's proclivities in the bedroom and more.
Paul and I finally manage to get caught up on recent events after a few weeks of life getting in the way. We chat Roe vs Wade, it's impact in America and further afield. How Matt's YouTube tried to use reviews of Sci-Fi content to radicalise him and more. All likes, shares and comments welcome.
This week we're talking about the good fans can do for their respective communities through football with Neil Cowan of Jags For Good. Jags For Good are a Partick Thistle supporters group who are currently engaging with the club in a number of ways, from season book donation drives that include the local refugee population to help them settle in their new surroundings, to food bank drives and collecting a really impressive amount of donations in the form of money from fans, players and the club alike. It was a real pleasure to have Neil in and we wish them well with the campaign. Please consider getting involved if/ where you can. The world is a tough place right now and we firmly believe belonging to a community is one of the things that will get us all through it.
This week we're talking about the rise of Cryptocurrency and NFTs with Daniel Thomas, Chancellors Fellow at Strathclyde University, who specialises in Security and Cybercrime. We discuss everything from the mechanics of Crypto and it's impact on both the environment and society, the volatility of the markets and if the claims made around the security of exchanges and the blockchain are everything we're being told they are. We also discuss the burgeoning NFT markets around the world and how, or if, it's possible to imbue something with no intrinsic value as something with the characteristics of a sound investment. This all comes in a week where the markets we're discussing have tanked, wiping hundreds of billions of pounds off these markets values. Are these products all just scams that are destined to fail? Find out here.
It‘s been a few weeks since we last got something out, a mixture of covid, holidays and laziness held us up. This week we're catching up on recent events before moving on to our upcoming guests. With the absolute shit-show that the UK has become, this one gets a little heated, fair warning.
This week's guest is David Cranna, author of Glass City, a self-published detective noir comic set 100 years in the future - where Glasgow (Glass City) finds itself amalgamated with Edinburgh to make one massive mega-city. We chat about the challenges and hurdles faced when making a movie independently in this country, how technology has changed things and how Paul's influences can be seen in his work. Angry Young Men is a surreal/ dystopian look at growing up in a scheme/ gang environment and how many who seek to leave often find themselves trapped where they are. As always all likes, shares and comments welcome!

After a few weeks of being respectively floored with both Covid and Novid, we left the beers alone and finally did some work! We discuss plans to explore streaming formats and some of the great content producers we've engaged with so far, the nonsensical hypocrisy at the heart of Cancel Culture, the word “Hun” in the context of the current attempts to deflect legitimate criticism for overt racism and then to bring it home we got into some shit about the recent debacles in Afghanistan, just to keep it light. There was a bit of a sound issue towards the end, apologies and hopefully it doesn't impact too much. As always all likes, shares, etc welcome- help us head fuck the algorithm into pushing us to more folk!
