Popping in to say hi and to remind you that less is more. We know this, yet we forget this. In Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, Greg McKeown reminds us that less is more in an inspiring, relatable, and digestable way! I am reading this book for the third time. Yes, you heard me. So I'm just going to leave that right there... "Have you ever found yourself stretched too thin? Do you simultaneously feel overworked and underutilized? Are you often busy but not productive? Do you feel like your time is constantly being hijacked by other people's agendas? If you answered yes to any of these, the way out is the Way of the Essentialist. The Way of the Essentialist isn't about getting more done in less time. It's about getting only the right things done. It is not a time management strategy, or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution towards the things that really matter." -Greg McKeown Rent books for FREE on Libby, here! - Say hi! @dyingoflaughter_podcast / DyingOfLaughterPodcast@gmail.com Do you like this show? Miles Adams and Max Lemper-Tabatsky co-founded their company, Oaktree Memorials, after a personal loss revealed that unique and high quality, modern urns were difficult to come by. Death is a natural cycle of life and Max and Miles honor this with environmentally-friendly manufacturing and ethical practices. "We founded Oaktree after experiencing firsthand how difficult it can be to find modern memorials made from exceptional and sustainable materials. Keep Going by Edgar Guest (Fine, I added the Queen.) Poem: When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must—but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out; Don't give up, though the pace seems slow— You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man, Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup, And he learned too late, when the night slipped down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out— The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit— It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit. What does a woman do when her life has fallen apart and her heart has been ripped out and stepped on twice in two months? She goes on a wild adventure, makes some bad decisions, and does a sh*t load of soul searching. But most importantly? She finds out how to love…herself. This is so not Eat, Pray, Love. This is Eat, Pray, #FML. Gabrielle Stone is an actress, author, and dancer. She is known for various movies and television series such as Speak No Evil, the movie Cut and the upcoming movie The Legacy Of Avril Kyte with actors Doug Jones, J. Larose and Dave Vescio. Today we discuss losing her father at age 6 and how two back-to-back break-ups lead to writing her successful novel, Eat, Pray, #FML. @gabriellestone "A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a nineteen-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself. And staying at home heartbroken? F%*k. That." Buy her book here! Listen to Gabrielle's podcast, FML Talk! I am no longer waiting for a special occasion; I burn the best candles on ordinary days. I am no longer waiting for the house to be clean; I fill it with people who understand that even dust is Sacred. I am no longer waiting for everyone to understand me; It's just not their task I am no longer waiting for the perfect children; my children have their own names that burn as brightly as any star. I am no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop; It already did, and I survived. I am no longer waiting for the time to be right; the time is always now. I am no longer waiting for the mate who will complete me; I am grateful to be so warmly, tenderly held. I am no longer waiting for a quiet moment; my heart can be stilled whenever it is called. I am no longer waiting for the world to be at peace; I unclench my grasp and breathe peace in and out. I am no longer waiting to do something great; being awake to carry my grain of sand is enough. I am no longer waiting to be recognized; I know that I dance in a holy circle. I am no longer waiting for Forgiveness. I believe, I Believe. Diagnosed just two days before the new year in 2016, Jasmine thought the results of her biopsy would determine the trajectory of the upcoming year, but that couldn't have been further from the truth. In 2017, with the support of her family and close friends, Jasmine underwent a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and 25 rounds of proton therapy radiation. Marissa Thomas is a four-year breast cancer survivor from Tacoma, WA. Diagnosed in November 2015 at the age of 35, with Stage II High-Grade Invasive Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ (DCIS) 35% ER positive, just shy 3 months of her 36th birthday. Kristy is the author of, "Rise Up, Little Bluebirds," a sweet tale of grief and community. She lives with her husband and four children in Southern Minnesota. Today we discuss the loss of her mom to breast cancer, going viral on Facebook Marketplace, and writing her first children's book about loss. Kristy is the spearhead of her family's heart forward bluebird house business “Rudolph's Bluebird Houses” which they built around giving back and to create community and support surrounding grief after the loss of Kristy's mother to cancer in 2018. Seeing the way her father was using his hands to help heal his heart by building homes for her mother's favorite bird, she had the idea to connect his houses to the community and they are now helping thousands of other families work through their grief. The bluebird carries the universal symbol of joy and happiness along with it and has became an emblem of hope for their family through their loss. It reminds us that grief is a process and it can be a little less isolating when we help each other through it. "One of the most important things they've learned as a family through their philanthropic outreach is the power of community and how universal the feelings of loss in life are. As isolating as grief can feel, we aren't as alone when we help each other through it." -Kristy Want to learn more about Kristy and her family?
