Guest Bio: Jena Holliday is the author of Sacred Creativity and a full-time artist, author, entrepreneur, and storyteller. She is the creator and owner of Spoonful of Faith, an illustration and design studio. With just a bit of faith, she walked away from her mainstream marketing job to embrace her passion for art. What started as a hobby eventually evolved into a full-time commitment to spread kindness and hope through her artwork and words. That commitment blossomed into a blog and shop, aptly named Spoonful of Faith, and has thus become not only a successful business but a cultural beacon. Jena has been featured on Good Morning America, Ebony, Essence, People, Nylon, The Wall Street Journal, Yahoo, Artful Living, and many more prominent outlets. Show Summary: What gifts do you think God has blessed you with? Do you see creativity in your gifts? Oftentimes we neglect to notice the diverse ways that God has blessed each of us with creativity. It does not always have to be writing, drawing, painting, or doing a craft. Jena Holliday has found that being creative can grant us a different type of connection with the Lord. Join hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy Adkins as they learn about sacred creativity with Jena during this God Hears Her conversation. Notes and Quotes: “Why are you asking everyone else where to go, who to be, and what do except the One who created you?” —Jena Holliday “God didn't make a mistake when He made us who we are. It wasn't by chance; it wasn't a coincidence. It was on purpose. That really helped me to step into the fullness of the voice that the Lord had given me.” —Jena Holliday “What I have learned is that there is a hunger to see the different ways that the image of God is reflected on the earth. It's cool to be in this position as an artist and illustrator because I have the unique role of creating something in a visual way that doesn't require words. It was always important to me that I showcase different women and different images and illustrations of people because I wanted them to feel seen. I wanted people to know that they were loved, heard, and that their stories matter.” —Jena Holliday “You should use [your gift] as a way to honor the Gift Giver, the One who has given it to you. We all have a corner of this earth where we get to use our gifts. Whatever God does to multiply it, that's Him—that's not on us. That's not our responsibility.” —Jena Holliday “If you have something that God has given you and it's still neatly wrapped in a box, I think that's an invitation to open it up, spend a little time with it, and see what He does with it.” —Jena Holliday “Everyone should take the risk to use the gifts that God has given them.” —Jena Holliday “The way that Jesus loves us is so deep is that He will come after you. He will come find you again and guide you back to where He would like you to be and you get to keep walking forward together.” —Jena Holliday Related Episodes: Ep 141: Rethinking Creativity with Rachel Marie Kang: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/rethinking-creativity/ Ep 163: Mindful Creativity with Anh Lin: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/mindful-creativity/ Links: Jena's book Sacred Creativity: https://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Creativity-Inspiration-Reclaim-God-Given/dp/0593581474 Jena Holliday's Website: https://www.spoonfuloffaith.com/ Jena's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aspoonfuloffaith/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191 Watch the episode on the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM God Hears Her email sign-up: https://go.odb.org/ghh-sign-upsfmc191 Subscribe on iTunes! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/god-hears-her-podcast/id1511046507?utm_source=applemusic&utm_medium=godhearsher&utm_campaign=podcast Shop God Hears Her books and resources: https://go.odb.org/ghh-shop191 Elisa's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elisamorganauthor/ Eryn's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eryneddy/ Vivian's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vivmabuni/ Our Daily Bread Ministries website: https://go.odb.org/odbm191

Award-winning artist and entrepreneur Jena Holliday (as seen on Good Morning America, Ebony, Essence and more) and her newly released book, Sacred Creativity: Inspiration to Re-Claim the Joy of Your God-Given Gifts. Jena shares about finding the courage to apply our God-given gifts in the pursuit of our dreams, how to achieve a life-giving schedule and work-life balance, and offers a refreshing countercultural view on “hustle culture.” When Jena Holliday left her full-time corporate job to embrace her passion for art she had one prayer: that she would be able to use her gifts and passion to make a difference. Clearly, God heard her. In a matter of just a few years, Jena's blog/online shop, A Spoonful of Faith erupted into a massively popular community of women sharing and gaining encouragement for their creative ventures, and has since formed partnerships with many national brands/retailers such as Target, Aerie, Dove and Kirkland. With thoughtful stories, powerful reflections, hand lettering, and beautiful original artwork, Sacred Creativity (WaterBrook, August 20, 2024) invites all to discover how they uniquely reflect the heart of a creative God. Using the lessons she's learned along the way and creative prompts throughout, Jena encourages readers to overcome the pressure to perform, face the fears of failure and imposter syndrome, believe in the gifts that God has given, step forward in creativity, and delight in the fruit that comes from freely creating as an act of worship. With tender kindness, a treasure trove of wisdom and fierce encouragement, Jenna inspires, motivates, and help us learn invaluable lessons such as… -How to recognize and overcome fear, doubt, and insecurity in order to take a leap of faith -How to trust God with your gifts -The connection between motherhood and creativity -The importance of making space to create -How creativity is an act of worship Jena Holliday- https://www.spoonfuloffaith.com/ Jena Holliday Instagram https://www.instagram.com/aspoonfuloffaith/?hl=en As advertised in the intro: Get the Serenity Journal Here! There is a certain kind of rest that can't be achieved through a screen. Sure a screen is good for going comatose for several hours, but I've found often the time flies so quickly I feel like I never actually recharged. When we take time to create something we find to be beautiful it creates relaxation that can't be found in other ways. Does that sound confusing, listen along as we chat and I think it will get clearer. What led you to create? What stage of life were you when you started? Have you ever had someone reject something you created? How did that affect you, and what did you learn from it? How do you move past creative blocks? What role does faith and worship have in creativity? How do you find a creative passion? Almost every artist I've interviewed on this show has had some variation of the same story: I didn't think it was possible to make a living doing what I love. Although today's guest grew up in a creative home, she always viewed art as a hobby – partly because of an offhand comment from a teacher who told her that being an artist wasn't a career. Today, Jena Holliday is a full-time illustrator, author, and entrepreneur. She's the visionary behind Spoonful of Faith, a creative haven specializing in illustration, hand-lettering, mural art, innovative marketing, and joyful design. Jena's work has been featured in Good Morning America, Huffington Post, People, and the isles of Target. Her success is helping rewrite the old “starving artist” narrative and proof that following your passion and building a profitable business is possible.WILDFLOWER SHOWNOTES : shannaskidmore.com/jena-holliday

We all have something beautiful to bring to the world. Simply being who we are or creating from a place of authenticity, we have the opportunity to bring good and beautiful things into being. Today's guest is doing just that and, in her work and in her words, she inspires others to do the same. Jena Holliday is a Minneapolis-based graphic artist, children's book author and illustrator, wife, mother, and the founder and Director of the online shop and platform, Spoonful of Faith. Her work can be found at retailers such as Target, Michaels, and Kirklands and her recent children's book release, A Spoonful of Faith, was featured on Good Morning America. In our time together, we talk about Jena's transition from a full-time marketing career to creating her own business as a graphic artist, and what she felt God telling her in that transition. Jena also shares how she creates from a place of worship and sees her work as an incredible opportunity to co-create alongside God. Jena is inspired by the beauty of our differences. My hope is that this conversation might remind you of your own unique beauty and inspire you to create the next beautiful thing that God is calling forth from within you.
We've got such a fun episode today, friends. It's all about Children's books! I think one of the reasons why even adults love children's books is because they are oftentimes packed with messages and reminders that we need as adults. Children's books help us dream, but also help invite kids to deeper words and thoughts. Our guests for today's show include Jena Holliday, Sally Lloyd Jones, Esau McCaulley, Laura Wifler, Annie F. Downs, and Emily Lex! I asked them why they wrote these children's books, what they want little ones to learn from it, and why they find children's books to be so special and important in a child's life. Writing for children is a different kind of challenge because we have to get the message across in fewer words, so every word has to be intentional. But WOW are we so dang thankful to be given the beautiful responsibility of speaking into the next generation and reminding them how unique they are and how much God loves them. Being a light in the midst of darkness is not easy these days. And it’s not easy juggling between work and motherhood while trying to be light in this dark world. In this podcast episode, my guest Jena Holliday shares her personal story of how she was discouraged by a teacher from pursuing her dream of being an artist as a young girl. Yet, God intervened. “As I became a mother, God started to be remind me of things He had placed in my heart years before… As I walked in faith, people encouraged me to pursue my dreams.” Jena shares about her struggles juggling motherhood and work as the seasons changed and her kids changed. “Being flexible is super helpful as it comes to managing priorities as well as trying to be a good parent.” One thing that Jena held with her over the years, is the importance of her uniqueness and who God created her to be. Her mom has always affirmed her and her siblings even though they were all different. Her mom’s instructions gave her confidence, and in turn, has helped her to shed light through her illustrations, especially to her children. What we chat about Juggling work and motherhood Working remote with children Affirming and speaking life over her children Being a shining light in the community How to teach children to let their light shine
