POPULARITY
Following on from her last episode, Dr. Dunni is back to share her passion for reading. This time, she is discussing four books that have had a profound impact on her life and can help mothers become more effective leaders. Dr Dunni discusses how these books generate curiosity about the existence of other people. Through these books, she considers the importance of tackling difficult tasks head on, the connection between physical health and holistic well-being, the formation of habits and the need to think for ourselves. Dr Dunni ends the episode by encouraging readers to find enlightenment by living in the present moment. KEY TAKEAWAYS "Eat That Frog" by Brian Tracy teaches the importance of tackling difficult tasks first and not procrastinating. "The Science of Getting Well" by Wallace D. Waddles emphasizes the importance of physical health, including nutrition, movement, and fresh air. "Outwitting the Devil" by Napoleon Hill explores the concept of breaking free from a hypnotic rhythm and taking control of one's thoughts and actions. "Atomic Habits" by James Clear highlights the power of small changes in building good habits and breaking bad ones. "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment and finding gratitude and appreciation in the now. BEST MOMENTS "Books have changed my life. They have taken me from a place where I felt down in the dumps, feeling dejected, feeling upset, feeling very annoyed, upset, depressed even, to a place where I felt energized, happy, joyful, grateful." "The moment you have a reason for being, it makes a huge difference. But the moment you start to say, oh, I don't know what I'm doing. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Oh, well, I'll just sit down. I'll go lay me down. Then it becomes like that vehicle that you have at home that nobody drives." "The moment you don't put yourself to good use, you could start to fall apart. So you need to make sure that certain of these principles that are shared in this book, The Science of Getting Well, is very important." "The moment you think about something continuously, it becomes a manifestation of what you say. So that's the reason why I'm always talking. You probably, maybe I might have seen on my social media posts when I talk about affirmations, you need to say certain things, positive things." "Focusing on the past can lead to depression and sadness and regrets and guilt. Focusing on the future can lead us to anxiety and worry and fear. But when we stay in the now, we are tuned into gratitude and love and appreciation of what we are experiencing." VALUABLE RESOURCESEat That Frog - Brian TracyThe Science of Being Well - Wallace D. Ready to Level Up Your Entrepreneurial Game?As an entrepreneur, reading books is an absolute game-changer. But remember, it's not just about absorbing knowledge; it's about taking action and implementing what you've learned. In my latest video, I'm sharing three books that I recently finished, with each holding immense value for any entrepreneur.First up is 'Discipline is Destiny' by Ryan Holiday, one of my all-time favourite authors. This book dives deep into the power of discipline and how it shapes our path to success. Next, we have 'TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking'. This book offers practical tips on public speaking from the man who's seen it all himself - Chris Anderson, the CEO of TED.Lastly, we dive into 'The Diet Myth' by Tim Spector, which challenges common misconceptions about dieting. He provides evidence-based insights into making healthier choices and debunks popular myths surrounding our food. So, if you're eager to discover whether these books should find a spot on your bookshelf, tune in to this video!---About your host, Tej:Tej graduated from King's' College London with a BSc Biochemistry in 2014, he then pursued a career in Medical Education and Marketing. Soon after his second job… he was fired! A moment of relief and freedom was what he felt, not sure what his mother felt when he told her he was jobless at 23…He then went in search of a more ethical path, a business he could set up where the reward was equal to the work put in. “If they are making pounds, why am I making pennies?” - was his thought process, not happy with slow progression and bureaucracy (& having to wear smart shoes everyday). This lead him to opening a Recruitment business (not sure where the ethics went) which doubled in profit every year, for 4 years. He hated it. Golden handcuffs they call it.Fortunately, he used the cash he'd built up from that business, to educate himself in Property Investing. Soon, he'd stopped the business and transitioned into Property Investment full time. He then had a slow start -Purchasing 15 properties in his first 9 months, using over £650,000 of Investor Finance, he built a £1,200,000 property portfolio and created £30,000 of profit from flips. This gave him ‘financial freedom', but it was the most stressful period of his life. Growing quickly is very painful. He recently made £95,000 from two flips.Let's not forget that his Podcast grew to be the most-reviewed UK Property Podcast, peaking at 4,000 unique downloads per episode. His Podcast (Tej Talks) now sits at 800,000 downloads in over 120 countries and has 500 reviews, rated 5/5.Tej InvestsTej TalkseLearning Hosted on Acast. Self-help gurus promise to do just that with their tips, tricks, and strategies. 3 Top Books in Self Improvement 1. We've got such a fun episode today, friends. It's all about Children's books! I think one of the reasons why even adults love children's books is because they are oftentimes packed with messages and reminders that we need as adults. Children's books help us dream, but also help invite kids to deeper words and thoughts. Our guests for today's show include Jena Holliday, Sally Lloyd Jones, Esau McCaulley, Laura Wifler, Annie F. Downs, and Emily Lex! I asked them why they wrote these children's books, what they want little ones to learn from it, and why they find children's books to be so special and important in a child's life. Writing for children is a different kind of challenge because we have to get the message across in fewer words, so every word has to be intentional. But WOW are we so dang thankful to be given the beautiful responsibility of speaking into the next generation and reminding them how unique they are and how much God loves them. Iman Mersal's work spans poetry and scholarship, personal essay and biography. In 2021, Mersal received the Sheikh Zayed Book Award for her deeply insightful prose work In the Footsteps of Enayat al-Zayyat. SHOW NOTES This podcast is produced in collaboration with the Sheikh Zayed Book Award. The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is one of the Arab world's most prestigious literary prizes, showcasing the stimulating and ambitious work of writers, translators, researchers, academics and publishers advancing Arab literature and culture around the globe. Today, we talk with SZBA-winning Egyptian poet and writer Iman Mersal. In 1993, Mersal picked up an unknown novel by a forgotten writer from the 60s. And so began her long wanderings in search of Enayat El Zayat. El Zayat killed herself in 1963, four years before her book “Love and Silence” was finally published. Mersal's portrait of El Zayat is a remarkable work of research, empathy and imagination. Iman Mersal's In the Footsteps of Enayat al-Zayyat (في أثر عنايات الزيات)was published by Kotob Khan Books in late 2019. We read excerpts from Robin Moger's forthcoming English translation. You can also listen to our previous episode on this book, titled “Cold Trail.” Richard Jacquemond's translation, Sur les traces d'Enayat Zayyat, was published in the spring of 2021. The only novel by Enayat al-Zayyat (1936-63), Love and Silence (الحب و الصمت) , was recently republished and is available on Google Play. Other works in English translation by Iman Mersal include How to Mend: Motherhood And Its Ghosts, tr. Robin Moger and a forthcoming poetry collection, translated by Robyn Creswell. ArabLit has gathered links to poems by Mersal in English translation. Her co-translation of Waguih Ghali's Beer in the Snooker Club (بيرة فى نادى البلياردو) is widely available. You can read “Qāl wa Qulnā: What the Letter Qāf means in Spoken Jordanian” on 7iber. Mersal's “The Displaced Voice” is available via Scribd.

Today I'm sharing my top 3 books to read while pregnant I do not recommend What to Expect When You're Expecting or other mainstream resources on pregnancy and reproductive health Mainstream maternity education or reproductive health education tends to err on side of very medical, very fear-based and often fairly inaccurate information I do suggest reading very specific things by some brilliant leaders in the space Also opening your mind up to the experience of other people who have been pregnant, who have tried to get pregnant and who have given birth in many ways. https://www.amazon.ca/Killing-Black-Body-Reproduction-Meaning/dp/0679758690/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=killing+the+black+body&qid=1617225010&sr=8-1 (#1 Start with Killing the Black Body by Dorothy E. Roberts) This podcast is called an ethical exploration of parenthood so we need to talk about racism right at the beginning Killing the Black Body is something that will help you understand the immense privilege you have as a white person, and the far reaching effects of racism in the world of reproductive health and pregnancy https://www.amazon.ca/Ina-Mays-Guide-Childbirth-Material/dp/0553381156/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2FMP6FDXQLVHA&dchild=1&keywords=ina+may+gaskin+a+guide+to+childbirth&qid=1617224941&sprefix=ina+may+gas%2Caps%2C220&sr=8-1 (#2 Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth) A cult classic if you will, amongst birth workers and natural birth movement followers The stories that are shared in this book are inspirational and full of hope We do not have to accept the status quo cascade of interventions leading to a surgical birth This is showing us that there is another path; that there are more options available The thing that I find disappointing about this book is that it's very hard to replicate the environment that the book promotes There are some really practical, tactical, strategic things that you will have to do in preparation to have an experience similar to that. If we're going to give birth in a hospital, we are already stepping outside of our environment and into someone else's I come in at the middle ground, I want you to have a great birth experience in the hospital or at home https://www.amazon.ca/Birth-Partner-5th-Childbirth-Companions/dp/1558329102/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2L77XX872U15B&dchild=1&keywords=the+birth+partner&qid=1617224882&sprefix=the+birth+partner%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-1 (#3 Birth Partner by Penny Simkin) The best resource for birthing partners: the person who will be the primary support for the person giving birth It's an encyclopedia of all the things you need to know There is a special focus on pain, coping with pain, and the unique experience of pregnancy and birth among survivors of traumatic abuse and sexual assault This book will help YOU understand how to deal with YOUR pain Pain and suffering looks different for everyone It's not a moral issue, something we have to endure or not endure Pain is an intimate issue, which is why I don't spend very much time speaking about pain management in general - however, I am very knowledgeable about pain and it's management so don't be afraid to ask me about it These are my favourite books! Let me know what your favourite are by sending me an email at emily@thegoodbirthco.com Final note: when you are reading about pregnancy and birth, don't feel like you have to finish the book. Just pick and choose what you need! While the PM portion of the PE exam can be considered difficult because it dives deep into someone's knowledge about a specific discipline of civil engineering, the AM portion can be just as challenging since it mixes up questions from all five major areas. Therefore, getting ready for the breadth portion of the PE exam is of crucial importance. Today, Isaac details the most common and best resources that will definitely help you out with your breadth exam. Starting with the ever-present and always recommended books, such as the Civil Engineering Reference Manual (CERM)— which is now called the PE Civil Reference Manual— and Dr. Goswami's All-in-One books, Isaac details the particular features of each of them, pointing out not only their positives and negatives but also how some of them can be used simultaneously with another one to help you build a study schedule. Furthermore, he also details some features of the newest guy in town, the PE Civil Exam Review Guide: Breadth, by School of PE. This one offers a new perspective on how PE materials could look like and their integration with technology by using plenty of QR codes scattered throughout the book in order to enhance our interaction with the material being studied. If you're about to take the PE exam soon, this episode is for you!
