Tom Logue - May 17th 2026 Jesus is not just part of life—He is the cornerstone holding everything together. In this message from Matthew 21, we continue through our series The King & His Kingdom as Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard owner—a sobering and powerful parable directed at the religious leaders who had rejected God's authority and refused to honor Him with what He entrusted to them. Jesus describes a landowner who plants a vineyard, entrusts it to tenant farmers, and sends servants to collect fruit from it. But instead of honoring the owner, the tenants reject, beat, and kill the servants—and eventually even kill the owner's son. Through this parable, Jesus exposes the failure of the religious leaders of Israel. God entrusted them with His people, His city, and His kingdom, but instead of stewarding those things faithfully, they used them for themselves. They rejected the prophets God sent to call them to repentance, and now they were rejecting the Son Himself. But this message doesn't stop with them—it confronts us too. At the center of this sermon is a deeply practical and challenging truth: we are stewards, not owners. Everything we have has been entrusted to us by God—our bodies, our relationships, our time, our finances, our gifts, and even the message of the gospel itself. The question is not whether we have these things, but whether we are stewarding them in a way that honors the One they belong to. This message challenges us to take honest inventory of our lives. Are we stewarding our bodies well? Are our relationships healthy? Are we using our time wisely in light of eternity? Are we serving God with our money, or being mastered by it? And are we faithfully sharing the gospel that has the power to save and transform lives? The sermon also explores the biblical call to generosity and tithing—not as religious obligation alone, but as an act of worship and trust. Ultimately, Jesus is worthy not just of leftovers or percentages, but wholehearted devotion. Like Mary of Bethany breaking the alabaster jar at Jesus' feet, we are invited to become worshippers who “break the bottle” because Jesus gave everything for us. And at the center of it all stands Jesus Himself. Quoting Psalm 118, Jesus reveals that He is the cornerstone rejected by the builders. Remove the cornerstone, and everything falls apart. But when our lives are built upon Him, everything else finds its proper place. This message is an invitation to stop living like owners and begin living like faithful stewards—people who surrender every part of life to Jesus, the true King and cornerstone of it all. Luke 12:13-2113 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15 And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16 And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”' 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

In this powerful episode, Ruslan KD shares one of the biggest business mistakes in history—the time Excite's CEO turned down buying Google for $750K—and draws a profound parallel to how many of us overlook the influence and opportunities God has already placed in our hands. With a deep dive into Luke 19 and the parable of the minas, Ruslan unpacks how stewardship, not status, is what matters most. You'll learn the difference between outside-in, inside-out, and top-down identity, and discover why buried potential offends the King. Whether you're just starting out or feel like you've missed your chance, this episode will inspire you to stop waiting, start creating, and be faithful with what's in your hand.

Sermon Notes: 4/13/25 Pastor: Corey Deyamport Luke 8:4-15 . Check us out at: https://citylightvicksburg.org/ Or check us out here: https://www.facebook.com/citylightvicksburg . Jesus is asking each of us, can you hear me? Because not all hearts can hear clearly. Christ calls us to examine how we receive God’s word. This passage shows us three different things we're going to examine: Seed and Soil of the Heart. The ear that hears. The heart that obeys. In this parable, we have seed falling along different types of soil. Jesus reveals to the disciples that the seed is the word of God. The word of God can land on different types of hearts. The “path” is the hardened heart. A persons heart can be hardened by pride or indifference, and in that situation, the devil takes seed so it cannot sprout. The rocky ground is those who make a quick confession of faith, but when hardship comes, they fall away. The relationship with Christ isn’t there. Thorny ground is a distracted heart. The seed sprouts, but they mix self-interest and God. They are distracted by what the flesh demands. The Good Soil is a heart who not just hears the word, but retains the word. Not just an emotional response, BUT genuine commitment to the Lord. But ALL of us have a heart problem. None of us is righteous. All of us have all 4 soils within us. Left to ourselves, we would all distort God’s word. Is your passion for God being suffocated by business? Or Hardness? Regardless, Jesus extends an offer for you to lay your burdens upon Him. We can cling to Jesus and he will clear those thorns, and soften that soil. We may not be demon possessed like some, but we face the same enemy and need the same act of salvation from Christ. What happens after He saves you? We follow. Worship, to devotion, to practical service. When we respond to Jesus’s message, it is shined outwardly. And points those who see it back to Him.

Preacher: Becca Knudsen Scripture: Mark 13:1-37 The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times 13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!” 2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” 3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olivesopposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?” 5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,' and will deceive many. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. 12 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 13 Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation'[a] standing where it[b] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, 19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now—and never to be equaled again. 20 “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!' or, ‘Look, there he is!' do not believe it. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time. 24 “But in those days, following that distress, “‘the sun will be darkened,     and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars will fall from the sky,     and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'[c] 26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. 28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generationwill certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. The Day and Hour Unknown 32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert[e]! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. 35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!'”

The imagery Jesus uses in His stories are sketches of everyday life … fishing, farming, women baking bread, merchants buying pearls. Through these parables Jesus is teaching that the Kingdom is resistible. It's humble. It's not going to force itself… Read More The Stories of Jesus // Parable of the Sower The post The Stories of Jesus // Parable of the Sower appeared first on Refuge.Church.

RE-INHABITED Our reading today are II Samuel 10, I Chronicles 20, Psalm 20, and Matthew 22.  We are reading through the New Living Translation. They set a trap but the trap they set sprung on them.  They came to trap Jesus with their questions. But their questions merely revealed that they didn't understand the Scriptures or the power of God.  That's what Jesus told them.   “Your mistake is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't know the power of God. (Mt 22:29 NLT) They were badly mistaken because to know the Scripture and to know the power of God is to know Jesus and the power of his resurrection. You can learn all about the Bible, and even have the whole thing memorized, but if you are not looking at the Bible through the person of Jesus, then you will be badly mistaken, too. You can be very religious and pious and not have the power to love God or others.  That power is found only in Jesus.  God offers us both of these things.  He offers us knowledge and insight into the Scriptures, and he offers us the power to live a new quality of life.  We no longer need to pose our way before God and others.  Rather we are given a new life where we can experience God's love ourselves.  When we look at the Bible through the lens of Jesus we see that God has so carefully shown his love for the whole world, and that you are included in this. Jesus Parable today states that plainly, good and bad alike have been welcomed into the banquet of God.   When we look at the scriptures through Jesus, we see and know what he has done for us, and realize more and more the expanse of Gods love for all, including us.  That is why we remind ourselves of this truth every day.  Then by the Spirit, we begin to live out, a different kind of life; a life of power, love and a sound mind, where we become sensible, strong and generous.   For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (II Tim 1:7 NLT)   We can offer that sensible, strong, generous life to others, too.  We can offer that Invitation to His banquet, too.  Live that quality of life, through the presence and power of God in your life,  and  experience the love of God, seen through Jesus.  Allow his spirit to re-inhabit you, so that you can know him in the Scriptures.  The power of God brings about change.   Feast at the banquet table and make yourself at home there.
