Episode 6 | Luke 11:1-4 | Toby Dedden | 06/09/26 A culture of self-sufficiency wrongly teaches us that we have everything we need by ourselves, and ultimately bends us inward. Drawing on how Jesus teaches the disciples to pray in Luke 11, we see the effect of starting prayer with 'Father' and 'hallowed be your name' - it leads us deeper in trust by acknowledging God's goodness and greatness. Prayer also leads us deeper in dependence as we pray big and small prayers, just like the Lord's prayer. The ‘rhythm' of prayer takes place personal spaces and communal spaces, and in our church's annual week of prayer.
1 Peter 4 | Yoshito Noguchi | 30/08/26Yoshi teaches from 1 Peter 4 about following Jesus amid suffering. He highlights three themes:1discerning the time because “the end of all things is near,” staying clear-minded and Spirit-filled rather than spiritually asleep; experiencing God's presence and power through prayer that seeks the King's will in spiritual warfare.The sermon is full of illustrations from his Tokyo ministry where an ALS patient became a prayer warrior and people later came to faith, and by renewed congregational prayer impacting a formerly homebound student who returned to school saying Jesus was with her; and being rooted in deep, honoring love and committed relationships, emphasising that Jesus loves believers as they are because of the cross and that mission moves at the pace of love.

Episode 4 | John 21:1-9 & Acts 5:1-11 | Toby Dedden | 16/08/26 Drawing on Acts 5 and John 21, we see the need for loving-relationships for our spiritual formation. This is especially true in a culture of performance which teaches us to present certain parts of who we are and hide the rest. Through understanding and receiving the grace of God, we can be led to build loving-relationships that point to Jesus together.The ‘rhythm' of loving-relationships take place in DNA groups where we Discover about one another and God, Nurture the truth of God to the heart, and Act on that.
Episode 3 | Acts 2:1-12, 41-47 | Toby Dedden | 09/08/26 In this talk, Toby addresses a “rhythm of community” amid modern individualism, arguing that cultural forces (Enlightenment reasoning, Romantic expressive individualism, consumer choice, and personalised technology) train people to believe flourishing happens alone, which is then “harvested” as widespread loneliness. Drawing on Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Finkenwalde Seminary, the talk contends gospel-shaped community must be stronger than cultural formation and forms Christians through realignment with God's design (images of a mirror in Genesis, fire from Exodus to Acts 2 reversing Babel, and Jesus' call creating a new people) and through shared life in gospel communities that practice the New Testament “one anothers.” Practical realities include community being local, intentional, sacrificial, slow with staying power, not utopian, and Christ-centred, with a vision that such embodied friendships can bless a lonely world.
Episode 2 | Hebrews 10:19-25 & Luke 10:38-42 | Toby Dedden | 02/08/26Toby continues the “Rhythms of the Day” series, arguing that while culture forms people through media and competing commitments, Christians should be formed as “kingdom people.” After addressing hurry previously, he focuses on fragmentation—life split into disconnected spheres intensified by the Industrial Revolution, modernity, and the digital age that keeps competing demands “in our pocket.” He explains Sunday gatherings are not about condemning attendance or merely prioritising one fragment over another, but about formation. Drawing on Megan Hill and Hebrews 10, he presents gatherings as uniquely significant, a key re-centring like Mary choosing Jesus over Martha's anxiety, and “bigger than I” as an ecclesial assembly that encourages and builds the body and pictures the coming kingdom. He offers practical steps: choose and sacrifice, serve, bring kids, plan frequency, and actively engage in worship.
Episode 1 | Exodus 20:8-11 & Mark 2:27-28 | Toby Dedden | 26/07/26We live in a culture that prizes efficiency and productivity above almost everything else, making hurry our default state. Moving to a quieter city or accumulating time-saving technology doesn't cure "hurry sickness". In this opening message of the Rhythms of the Day series, Toby unpacks the biblical meaning of Sabbath. Sabbath isn't just a passive day off; it is an intentional spiritual rhythm designed to remind us of creation, imitate a resting God, celebrate our salvation, and redirect our gaze to Jesus.

Episode 07 | Matt 5:38-48 | Dave Miles | 15/06/2026Dave continues the series on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), focusing on Matthew 5:38–42 where Jesus corrects the misuse of “eye for eye, tooth for tooth,” explaining it was a restrictive, judicial principle for courts, not a mandate for personal revenge. “Do not resist an evil person” is presented as addressing personal retaliation, not pacifism, national defense, or criminal justice, with reference to Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2 on government punishing evildoers.
