O Brasil finalmente sediará um mundial de CS:GO. Octogon n°289 - UFC 237 «Namajunas/Andrade» L'UFC 237 se tenait à la Jeunesse Arena de Rio de Janeiro (Brésil) avec une défense de titre en main event. En effet, la championne des poids pailles, Rose Namajunas se déplaçait en territoire hostile face à sa redoutable challenger Jessica Andrade. Opposition de style entre le striking précis, élusif de Rose (qui avait démantelé l'ancienne reine Joanna) et la puissance de Jessica. La Brésilienne a aussi dans son arsenal de très bons takedowns alors que le grappling de la championne est très inventif. En co-main event, Anderson Silva affrontait Jared Cannonier. The spider a certes de beaux restes mais il devait rester particulièrement vigilant face à la force de frappe de son opposant. Nous étions tous d'accord pour dire que ce combat n'était pas le second principal de la soirée mais bien celui entre Jose Aldo et Alexander Volkanovski. L'ancien champion des poids plumes a décidé de faire une tournée d'adieu au Brésil avant de prendre sa retraite. Il a exécuté Jeremy Stephens et Renato Moicano; tous des prétendants au titre de Max Holloway. L'Australien est l'un d'eux et il était un adversaire de choix pour Aldo. Le reste de la carte est Alves/Staropoli et Correia/Aldana (à noter que Ferreira/Trinaldo a été annulé pour problème de santé du premier qui souffrait de calculs rénaux). Octogon n°253 - UFC 224 "Nunes/Pennington" L'UFC 224 se tenait cette nuit à la Jeunesse Arena de Rio de Janeiro. Carte très "auriverde" puisque le main event voyait la championne des 135 lbs Amanda Nunes mettre son titre en jeu contre Raquel Pennington. Pur duel de dures à cuire avec un morphotype semblable. Nunes présentait un profil martial plus complet mais "Rocky" Pennington arrivait dans la cage sur une dynamique dont la tenante devait absolument se méfier. Puisqu'on parle de titre, le co-main event avait pour objectif un "title contention" entre le n°2 de la division des poids moyens, Jacare Souza et le n°5 Kelvin Gastelum. Pur duel de entre le multiple champion du monde de JJB et le lutteur américain. Les deux ne sont pas maladroits debout et cela laissait augurer une opposition serrée. Octogon n°224 - UFC 212 "Aldo vs Holloway" Cet Octogon n°224 est largement consacré à l'UFC 212 qui avait lieu cette nuit au "Jeunesse Arena" de Rio de Janeiro (Brésil). L'unification du titre des 145 pounds constituait le main event de cette carte. Jose Aldo (champion) était défié par Max Holloway (champion interim). L'épouvantail McGregor a laissé vacante la ceinture qu'il avait pris de manière expéditive contre ce même Aldo en décembre 2015. Du coup, le brésilien avait la possibilité de cimenter un peu plus son statut de champion face au redoutable "Blessed" Hawaiien. Le co-main event était le duel entre les deux premières contenders dans la division des poids paille. Claudia Gadelha affrontait à domicile Karolina Kowalkiewicz. La puissance brute de la Brésilienne contre le stand-up léché de la Polonaise étaient l'énigme principale de cette opposition pendant que la reine Joanna attend sur son trône. Vitor Belfort avait, quant à lui, annoncé que ce PPV serait sa dernière pige avec l'UFC. On lui a offert un autre vétéran en la personne de Nate Marquardt comme adversaire. Rien ne dit qu'on ne retrouvera pas le "Phenom" dans une autre organisation prochainement. Les autres combats de cette fightcard étaient Erick Silva/Yancy Medeiros et Paulo Borrachinha/Oluwale Bamgbose.
