El pasado viernes el ministro de Justicia marroquí,  Abdellatif Ouahbi, reivindicó el “derecho histórico y geográfico” que presuntamente tiene su país sobre las ciudades de Ceuta y Melilla. No es algo nuevo, la reclamación de estas dos ciudades forma parte de lo que se conoce como “Gran Marruecos” un proyecto geopolítico que aspira a reunir bajo la soberanía del reino alauí un amplio territorio del noroeste de África. El primero en formularlo fue Allal El Fassi, fundador del Partido Istiqlal que, en la primera mitad del siglo XX, articuló esa idea como bandera del nacionalismo marroquí. Para sus defensores, el fin de los protectorados francés y español en 1956 debía ser solo el primer paso hacia la recuperación de unas tierras que consideran históricamente marroquíes. El fundamento de esta reivindicación se apoya sobre las grandes dinastías medievales. Almorávides, almohades y benimerines proyectaron desde el actual Marruecos su poder sobre buena parte del Magreb, y en algunos periodos alcanzaron incluso el África subsahariana y la península ibérica. A esa continuidad territorial se sumaba el vínculo religioso y político de la baya, el juramento de fidelidad que las tribus prestaban al sultán. Los partidarios del Gran Marruecos toman esos lazos como prueba de una soberanía previa que trascendía las fronteras trazadas por las potencias coloniales. El mapa original de las reivindicaciones incluía el Sáhara Occidental, la totalidad de Mauritania, franjas del oeste y suroeste de Argelia, el norte de Malí y, en el flanco septentrional, Ceuta, Melilla. Algunas corrientes más exaltadas han llegado incluso a incluir a las islas Canarias, aunque esto nunca se ha convertido en una reivindicación oficial. Tras la independencia el nuevo reino intentó dar contenido práctico a ese ideario. La guerra de Ifni en 1957 enfrentó a Marruecos con España en el sur, la guerra de las Arenas en 1963 les enfrentó con la recién independizada Argelia por la delimitación fronteriza. En Rabat tardaron años en reconocer a Mauritania, a la que tenían por parte de su territorio. El episodio más conocido fue en 1975 con la Marcha Verde, la movilización de cientos de miles de civiles hacia el entonces Sáhara español. Eso precipitó la retirada de España y la posterior ocupación marroquí del territorio disputándoselo a la población local representada por el Frente Polisario. Hoy Marruecos controla la mayor parte del Sáhara Occidental. Esta política de hechos consumados ha ido ganando apoyo internacional. Estados Unidos reconoció la soberanía marroquí en 2020 y España dos años más tarde. El Frente Polisario y Argelia, su principal valedor, mantienen su rechazo y reclaman un referéndum de autodeterminación. El otro frente que tienen abierto es el de Ceuta y Melilla. No se trata de una amenaza militar inminente, sino de una reclamación de fondo que en Rabat no abandonan y que activan cuando les conviene para obtener concesiones o presionar a España. No importa que ambas ciudades sean españolas desde hace 500 años y que la comunidad internacional las reconozca como tales. Es en ese punto es donde se inscribe el asalto del pasado 30 de julio. Meet Hector Arenas, Venue Operations Manager at the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Monterrey.Back home in Mexico, he'd built a solid career as an industrial engineer with an MBA, ten years of experience, and a general manager role at a lending company, complete with the apartment, the car and the stable life. Then COVID hit, and he and his wife made a decision to leave their comfort zone and chase their dream. In July 2023, they moved to Australia so Hector could study a Master Of Business (Sport Management) at Deakin University.Four months later, on a tip from his university mentor, he landed a three-month casual events contract at Melbourne Park, and turned it into three straight Australian Opens. His work spans fiction, nonfiction, photography, painting, and printmaking. His book Queering the Male Gaze reimagined masterpieces of the classical and modern canon through essays and self-portraiture, exploring often-overlooked queer and female figures who shaped them. He is the founder of The KindaSuper Project, a philanthropic initiative offering free photography and video services to underserved communities. His debut novel Beloved Disciples just came out earlier this spring.The Color of Summer is a Rabelaisian tale of survival by wits and wit and ultimately a powerful and passionate story about the triumph of the human spirit over the forces of political and sexual repression. This novel is the fulfillment of author Reinaldo Arenas' life's work, the Pentagonía, a five-volume cycle of novels that is his "secret history of Cuba."Reinaldo Arenas was born in Cuba in 1943.
