He has fought in the UFC, Pancrase, and Strikeforce, where he was the welterweight champion. In this interview, we discuss why he wanted to become a professional fighter, what the early days of MMA were really like, his thoughts on weight cutting, the difference between preparing to fight three times in one night versus three times in one year, how he felt after he lost a title fight to Anderson Silva, how he felt after he won a title fight against Tyron Woodley, how becoming a Christian affected his fight career, what most Christians get wrong about discipleship, why he decided to publicly call out Joe Rogan for his ignorance about Christianity and the bible, and much more. Professor Amal Easton began his martial arts journey over 30 years ago with the study of Muay Thai. He has studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu extensively since 1992. After earning his degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Professor Easton moved to Rio De Janeiro in 1995. One of few Americans living in Rio de Janeiro, he trained and competed out of the Gracie Barra Academy for three and a half years. Professor Easton was only the seventh person to receive a black belt from the legendary Renzo Gracie. Renzo and Carlos Gracie, Jr., have endorsed his ability and authorized him to teach the art. Professor Easton was the first American Black Belt National Champion in 2002, is a multiple Pan American and Worlds Masters champion, and one of the original American pioneers of the art. Professor Easton has had the honor of studying extensively with such legendary talent as Professors Helio “Soneca” Moreira, Roberto “Gordo” Correira, Rillion Gracie, Eduardo “Veio” De Lima, Ze “Leao” Teixeira, and more. Some of Professor Easton’s students include notable competitors Eliot Marshall (first American to win Pan Ams at blue, purple, and brown belts), Shane Carwin, Brendan Schaub, Nate Marquardt, Duane Ludwig, Nick Klein, and many more. I am hoping that the issues with our provider are resolved and we can upload all our past episodes. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that we don't experience any more technical issues in the forseeable future.-RichEpisode DescriptionFor the start of our new “season” of MTR I had the pleasure of speaking to Lex McMahon. Lex is the President of Alchemist Management. Alchemist is a management company founded by music icon MC Hammer that specializes in managing mixed martial artists and assisting them in all aspects of their professional career. Originally I wanted to speak to Lex about the Nate Marquardt situation but as I did more research about Alchemist and their structure I came to the conclusion that their story needed to be shared. We did discuss Nate's situation but it was more from an informative standpoint. Lex gave us not only insight into his professional life but also shared some fond personal memories as well.
