India has an ecosystem of multilingualism. Yet there is an immense pressure to let go of indigenous languages which are less frequently used and adopt majority languages like Hindi. In India, the modern hierarchy of languages puts English on top, major languages like Hindi in the middle and regional languages and dialects on the bottom. A sad state of linguicide is occurring in India and regional languages are being lost. Listen in to my conversation with the Lexicon Club at Patna Women's College in Patna, Bihar. The conversation covers my personal experiences, thoughts on regional language retention and a vibrant question and answer session with the bright young women of Patna Women's College. "The taste and quality of the ingredients that some street vendors use can rival that of Michelin star restaurants. And that they make it all available at this price point is just shocking. Street vendors also have no qualms about feeding the food that they make to their own families. They don't store their food or refrigerate and reuse, all ingredients are fresh every day, there are no secrets, its made out in the open in front of the customer. Those are the big differences with the large chains. After doing this book, we've realised that we are much better off eating from the street than eating packaged food or even from fancy places" - Priya Bala and Jayanth Narayanan, authors, 'Bazaar Bites; Tales and Tastes of India's Street Foods' talks to Manjula Narayan about the fantastic sweets and savouries on offer on our streets including in tier 2 cities like Indore, Nagpur, Bhopal, Puri, Srinagar and Allahabad, among others, specialities like the hing kachori of Varanasi, the karela chaat of Gwalior, the ghirmit of Hubli Dharwad, the samosas of Bata Mangala in Odisha, the litti chokhas of Patna and the dosa diversity of Karnataka, and how street food needs to be properly recognised as an integral part of India's culinary heritage.

Every year, nearly three lakh students flock to the city of Kota in Rajasthan, the coaching capital of the country. Almost half of them enroll themselves at Allen Career Institute, a 36 year-old pioneering coaching centre that was last valued at over 1 billion dollars.Lately, Kota's reputation has been under question because of the frequent student suicides. This has obviously affected the number of students coming in and for the first time in its history, the coaching giant Allen is seeing a fall in its admissions. And its no small dip. Admissions have dropped by over 35% to around 80,000. But here's the interesting part. This isn't restricted to Allen institute in kota alone. Its happening in other cities too.Actually two years ago, VCl investment firm Bodhi Tree Systems came into the picture and Allen began expanding the number of campuses outside Kota. Now, in total, there are over 200 of them and at least, one-third are new. The company's CEO Nitin Kukreja told The Ken that Allen entered 16 new cities like Patna and Lucknow last year alone. A senior teacher at Allen Kota told us that for a centre to be profitable, it needs at least 4,000–5,000 student enrolments. But right now, Allen is not even seeing half of this. At least half a dozen senior Allen staffers and competitors told The Ken that a big chunk of these new centers are losing money. Staff pays have taken a hit but Allen is also hiring staff in new cities with a possible plan of shifting base out of Kota.In today's episode we take a look at what's happening inside one of the country's latest test prep giants.Tune into to Two by Two's latest episode, 'Delhi pricked the Bengaluru bubble' here

Last of classical poets who celebrated life and love. Famous for his playfulness of words (idioms/ phrases). Nawab Mirza Khan Dagh Dehlavi (1831-1905), was born and brought up in the red fort of Delhi he was the grandson of Bahadur Shah Zafar, after the fall of Delhi in 1857, he had to move to Rampur where he lived in comfort for more than a decade. Later, his changing conditions, took him to other centers of renown like Lucknow, Patna, Calcutta, and Hyderabad.Dagh was a disciple of Zauq and also has a large number of eminent disciples to his own credit, Dagh deliberated upon the aesthetic principles of ghazal as a form of intimate poetic conversation. In its totality, Dagh's poetry is idiomatic and appealing, laden with emotions and good humour. Apart from his four divaans, representing the last hallmarks of classical poetry, he has left behind a bunch of letters and a long narrative poem.Source: Rekhta Abdul Raoof Siddiqui email: raoof3@yahoo.com Instagram @urdu.ghazal Visit our website: www.mstn.in #urdupoetry #daghdehalviThanks for listening!
