It might be hard to believe, but the band Greta Van Fleet have truly created something special. Who would have thought that a little band from nowhere, Michigan would take over the rock universe like this? Sold out shows, number one hits, and a fan base that is absolutely rabid for them. Their concerts are a like a spiritual gathering of opened minded happy people who just want to feel the music hit their souls. I spent some time with the band on their recent tour stop in my hometown of Green Bay, WI, and had a conversation with bassist Sam Kiszka about their fan base, the music, the world they've created and yes even new music and what it might sound like.

The hashtag “#SpeakUpGVF” was being used on social media to call attention to the pics, described in an Instagram post last week as “culturally appropriative and offensive to various Native cultures.” Original Articles by John R. There's no middle ground with Michigan-based hard rock quartet Greta Van Fleet. You either think they're the savior messiahs of rock & roll music, or you think they're a pale cloying imitation of a bad Led Zeppelin cover band, or you haven't been paying attention. For such a fledgling band to have popped up from out of nowhere and inspire such concentrated amounts of equal parts praise and vitriol is a remarkable feat in these modern times, when rock music is increasingly less relevant.Their studio debut Anthem Of The Peaceful Army was no exception. Upon its release in 2018 they were treated to a wealth of criticism, a sizeable chunk of which was overwhelmingly negative; including a particularly infamous 1.6 out of 10 review from Pitchfork Media, and declared of Greta Van Fleet: "They make music that sounds exactly like Led Zeppelin and demand very little other than forgetting how good Led Zeppelin often were."Harsh words from a typically harsh publication, but are they deserved? Are Greta Van Fleet here to save rock music or just another cynical ploy towards nostalgia-fetishism? That's what we intend to find out on this new episode of Jukebox Zeroes, in which Lilz & Patrick are joined by Clinton Degan of Body English to peel the retro-onion that is Anthem Of The Peaceful Army.Local Music Feature: "Torchbear" by Knock Over City

/// Greta Van Fleet, the American rock quartet created by the 3 Kiszka brothers is, according to many, the successor of Led Zeppelin. The brotherhood grew up in a household imbued with blues, folk and '70s rock music. Young guitar player Jake tells us about his musical upbringing, listening to his parent's vast vinyl collection, and how creating music with his brothers can either be a source of complicity or great tensions. He is sworn to secrecy on the title of the new album but said it will be out very soon. This will be the bands first full length album and will cap off an incredible year for Greta Van Fleet. One of which, playing Elton John’s Oscar Watch Party where they were joined by Elton to perform some of his classic’s. Find that video on my blog. Just go to kmod.com and click on Lunchbox. Jake talks about how special it was to share the stage with a legend. It’s become a common occurrence at Greta Van Fleet shows for bra’s to find their way onstage. A pivotal moment in any rock bands career to reach bra status. A retro sound in a modern world. Do the guys ever get tired of being compared to Led Zeppelin? Who was their biggest musical influence on their career? Jake answers both of those questions in depth. The Kiszka brothers had a unique upbringing by today’s standards. Listened to blues records out of their dad’s collection for the majority of their childhood. Contemporary music wasn’t even on their radar until middle school where friends introduced some of the popular music to them. Not impressed by the style of hip-hop, the Kiszka brothers continued to be old soles and immersed themselves in classic rock. This would be the foundation for their onstage bravura as a band. Will Greta Van Fleet be coming to Tulsa soon? They have been touring relentlessly throughout the year which even included an appearance on the Tonight Show last week.
