There are hopes a Bill to better support victims of legally insane offenders will pass into law quickly - now that its passed its first reading.The Bill seeks to rename the verdict of "not guilty on account of insanity" to "the acts or omissions are proven but the defendant is not criminally responsible on account of insanity."Victim Support research and advocacy spokesperson, Petrina Hargrave, told Kate Hawkesby around 10 people a year are deemed not guilty on account of insanity.She says there are at least more than 20 victims for every case - so there are hundreds of New Zealanders right now who are affected by the Bill.LISTEN ABOVE

In this episode Matt and Tony get into the latest Trump legal fiasco. An NY Judge ruled that he cannot use the DOJ guideline to hide his tax returns. In a quite blistering ruling, the Judge basically called it an outrage to justice. It will be in front of the 2nd circuit soon. It made the guys decide to a deep dive into the IRS website to find out what other frivolous arguments people are using to get out of paying their taxes. Nobody did it better than the legendary Wesley Snipes, well except for the fact that he got 3 years. They also award the Legally-In-Shame of the week to Dominos Pizza who denied a blind man access to their website. The Supreme court ruled they had to make it ADA compliant so he too could get wasted and share in the grossness.

This week Matt and Tony talk about Trump's new and potentially disastrous tariff wars. Matt takes us on a journey through the tariff history of our country. Specifically, 1929, a year of infamy, that started the Great Depression. Apparently, two Congressman named Smoot and Hawley had the idea to take a thriving economy with low unemployment and start applying tariff's. The problem is like Pringles, once you pop you can't stop. Every business wanted a piece of the action and in a matter of time there were 20,000 goods with tariffs, which started a global trade war that took decades to climb out of. Are we on the same path now? Only time will tell. We do know that Smoot and Hawley did NOT get re-elected. We also address why in the heck Trump has this unilateral power.  Hint - he likes to play with his toys. It turns out there was a big trial where many of the players careers were on the line. Craziness ensued: Player confessions were literally stolen from the courtroom. In the end, there wasn't enough to convict them, or maybe there was. Hard to say when you have a jury so biased that they "carried players on their shoulders in celebration" after the verdict was announced! And where the heck does our immigration policy even come from? But first they talk about how ICE apparently put up a flier for parents with the wrong number to call to find out where their kids are.
