We made it to Episode 100 - and we're only just getting started. In this milestone episode, Adam and the team reflect on the journey so far, what's changed (and what hasn't), and the lessons that have stuck along the way. This one is about authenticity, people pleasing, emotional masks, and the price of pretending to be someone you're not - whether that's to keep the peace, fit in with old mates, or live up to a version of yourself that no longer exists. From headbutting strangers in a bar at 45 to drinking because “it's what the lads do,” this episode unpacks the hidden cost of living out of alignment. We explore boundaries, belief systems, and how your ego might be keeping you stuck. You'll hear everything from emotional acceptance to visualisation work, Paul Daniels references, and why your best self might just be clearing his throat in the next room - hopefully not while wearing golf shoes and downing Jägerbombs at 9am. In this hard-hitting episode, Smith reflects on powerful lessons pulled from recent content he's been consuming - all focused around the little things that either build or break your confidence, progress and peace of mind. In this powerful episode, Smith sits down with Dan Martin - he's lived the life that many silently struggle with: outwardly successful but inwardly lost, addicted, ashamed, and stuck in cycles that only seemed to confirm his worst fears about himself. This is a raw, unfiltered dive into what it means to rebuild your life from the inside out and why the work begins long before the behaviour changes. We explore the relationship between childhood trauma and adult addiction, the difference between guilt and shame, and the often-overlooked link between early attachment wounds and modern-day dysfunction. From accidentally taking too much LSD on a Wednesday morning, to growing weed in a Welsh barn with a retired pensioner, this one covers everything from psychospiritual breakdowns to rebuilding purpose. As well as our regular longer form Wednesday episodes, we now release extra shorter content on Mondays. Listen out for Sort your Shit out with Smith next Monday. In this episode, Mayhew dives into one of the most challenging - but powerful - practices in self-development: detachment. Whether it's from people, jobs, beliefs, habits or your own outdated identity, letting go is often the gateway to real inner peace, clarity and momentum. In this wide-ranging and honest conversation, Leigh Campbell-Wan (from Lab & Soul), and Smith dive into stress, burnout, resilience, and the language we use that holds us back. From misunderstanding what “burnout” really means to how alcohol messes with your brain (and your sleep), this episode strips away the fluff around mental fitness and focuses on what actually helps you feel better, think clearer, and live more intentionally. We break down common myths around stress elimination, talk about why “confidence” is rarely the real issue, and explore how familiar habits keep us stuck. There's a deep dive into self-perception, emotional control, and even the neuroscience of email miscommunication. What happens when a man stops running from pain and starts facing it? In this raw and powerful episode, Smith sits down with Ben Hill, a former client and now a successful positive psychology coach, to unpack the journey from emotional avoidance to personal ownership. Ben opens up about being abandoned by his father as a child, a wound that led him down a path of seeking validation, numbing emotion with food and alcohol, and chasing success in a career he hated. Eventually, the pain of staying the same became greater than the pain of change. What followed was a radical turnaround: He removed alcohol. He faced his emotions head-on. He walked away from a ‘safe' job and built a purpose-led coaching business helping others do the same. This episode covers the cost of emotional suppression, the reality of becoming sober, the courage to walk away from comfort, and the resilience required to build something real. In this episode, we explore: – The emotional impact of fatherlessness and how it shapes adult behaviour – Why success and self-destruction often go hand-in-hand – The real reason alcohol becomes a crutch and how to break the cycle – What it takes to leave a career you hate – Building self-worth from the inside out – How Ben now helps others break free from the same patterns Connect with Ben: LinkedIn – Ben Hill Website – Ask More Coaching Get in touch with Smith & Mayhew : hello@agameconsultancy.com Adam Smith From depressed and suicidal to the happiest and fittest he's ever been, Adam Smith's self-development journey hasn't been easy but it has been worth it. In this episode, Smith and Mayhew explore the teachings of Epictetus — a former slave turned Stoic philosopher — and why his 2,000-year-old advice might be exactly what modern men need. We break down what true freedom means, how to stop reacting to everything around you, and how mastering your mind gives you a shot at real peace, purpose, and resilience. We unpack five key principles, from detaching from outcomes to being the gatekeeper of your thoughts. There's practical reflection, some tough truths about booze, responsibility and self-sabotage — and yes, a story about a grown man who got so drunk he literally lost a hotel, his dignity, and his underpants! This episode is dedicated to Smith's Aunty Anne - a woman who faced unimaginable adversity with grace and strength. More than a tribute, this is a reflection on the powerful lessons she shared with those around her: from picking your battles and setting boundaries to truly showing up for the people you love. Smith explores how her wisdom still applies today - whether it's smiling in the face of hardship, refusing to play the victim, or the subtle art of saying “no” with love. There's also a strong reminder that listening (without fixing) is a lost skill, and that being there for someone doesn't mean solving their problems. "Are You Being Mindful – Or Is Your Mind Just Full?" In this episode, Smith & Mayhew dive headfirst into the world of mindfulness, meditation, and mental resilience — but don't worry, it's not all incense and chanting. The lads discuss how mindfulness has shaped their daily routines, the difference between healthy standards and obsessive habits, and why it's actually powerful to just sit still with your own thoughts (even if it's bloody uncomfortable). Mayhew shares insights from his recent meditation teacher training, including the teachings of Jon Kabat-Zinn, silent Zoom sessions, and the unexpected power of wiggling your fingers in a Yorkshire accent. From ADHD to mobile phone dependency, they explore how men can start taking back control of their attention and inner calm — one deep breath at a time. In this raw and powerful episode, Smith & Mayhew dive deep into the roots of behaviour, self-sabotage, and the impact of unresolved childhood trauma. They discuss the contrasting theories of Freud (cause and effect) and Adler (purpose and choice), all through the lens of real coaching experiences. With brutally honest storytelling, they explore how early abuse, gaslighting, and emotional manipulation can shape a man's self-worth — and how it can be unlearned. Expect conversation around “healing the boy so the man can appear”, breaking out of victimhood, and what it really means to take responsibility. They also unpack imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and the seductive comfort of feeling like crap... yes, really. Oh, and there's a solid gym story involving burpees, rowers, and insecure side-eyes
The Bureau of Queer Art, Contemporary Queer and Allied Artists from Art Gallery Studios Mexico City
In this powerful new episode of The Bureau of Queer Art Podcast, Jaimes Mayhew opens up about trans ecologies, the geologic weight of queer history, and how imagining new landscapes—real or speculative—is an act of resistance. From the rocks of their childhood in Utah to their collaborative utopian mapping projects, Mayhew's work invites us to look closer and dream bigger.“I believe the first step toward liberation is imagining outside of the realm of what we've been told is possible.”Based in Vermont, Mayhew brings decades of experience as a non-binary transmasc artist, educator, and collaborator. Their “Horizon Survey” and “A Different Horizon Atlas” projects draw on personal memory, queer theory, geology, and collective dreaming to build alternate futures. It's speculative cartography at its most luminous. This episode dives into the aesthetic and political layers behind their inclusion in the 50 Postcards project and their upcoming residencies at VCCA and Byrdcliffe.
In this episode, Smith & Mayhew get brutally honest about the chase for validation — whether it's through shredded photo shoots, over-sharing on social media, or pretending a banana and water bottle make you better than everyone else in the gym. The lads dive into how ego and low self-esteem often masquerade as ambition, how social media fuels performative behaviour, and why that “perfect” body pic might just lead you straight to a box of Krispy Kremes and an existential crisis. WARNING: If you're the kind of guy who films the whole concert instead of watching it, Smith & Mayhew might have a few words for you.
In this episode, Smith and Mayhew dive deep into some uncomfortable—but essential truths about becoming a better man. From Stoic principles like Memento Mori to redefining success beyond image and ego, they explore how real growth starts with hard choices, emotional honesty, and a willingness to confront your own excuses. They break down how to respond (not react) to adversity, why self-awareness and self-perception are not the same thing, and how your current excuses might be fuelling your future regrets. There's a powerful story involving football fans on a packed Amsterdam train, a lesson from a punchy Mike Tyson quote, and a surprising amount of wisdom packed into a single tattoo. Plus, we uncover why you don't need to swim with sharks or wear a backpack in Bali to live a meaningful life—unless you really want to. Lawrence Mayhew, chemist extraordinaire, is back by popular demand! This time, we explored how microbiology helps buffer toxin buildup in soil, with a strong focus on managing sodium through the soil's microbial biome. As expected, humic substances took center stage in our discussion with a world-renowned expert in the field. Lawrence broke down the physical and biological damage sodium can inflict on soil, reinforcing EarthWorks' long-held belief that sodium and bicarbonates are the first major obstacles to healthy soil and plants. We also dove into his latest R&D efforts and the products he believes will help turf managers combat sodium more effectively. Given the quickly fading daylight, both players agree to stop play and resume their match on Sunday morning at 8am. Two days later and just prior to starting their 19th hole of the match, Blakey tells Stuart that he had 39 points in the stableford competition played on the Wombat Hills course the day before. Knowing that an extended match is a continuation of the same round, not a new round, Stuart now knows that Blakey has practiced on the course during the match. He requests a ruling from the Committee before teeing off.Blakey is allowed to practice on the course before the match resumes on Sunday. Rule 5.5c specifically allows practice on the course when a match is stopped by agreement and will not resume on the same day, without restriction before the match is resumed. Therefore, there is no penalty.GRQOTW134: In stroke play, a marker enters the scores in the wrong boxes on the scorecard, can they correct it after they have returned the scorecard, or is it too late? If a marker signs in the player's spot, and the player signs in the marker's spot, and the scorecard is returned, is that also too late to correct it, or does it even need to be corrected?GOLFRULES QUESTIONS MERCHANDISEGet yourself a Roo&Coo polo: https://golfrulesquestions.myspreadshop.com/.DO YOU HAVE A RULES OF GOLF QUESTION:Email - golfrules.questions@gmail.comWANT TO TEST YOUR RULES OF GOLF KNOWLEDGE?Head to: www.golfrulesquestions.comWANT A QUICK GOLF RULES REFERENCEHead to Instagram: @golfrules_questions (https://www.instagram.com/golfrules_questions/?hl=en)OR JOIN THE FACEBOOK COMMUNITYhttps://www.facebook.com/golfrulesquestionsLISTEN TO THE GRQ PODCAST ON APPLE OR SPOTIFYClick here: https://anchor.fm/golfrules-questionsSUBSCRIBE to GOLFRULES QUESTIONS https://bit.ly/2I8KrVH for all your golf rules#GolfRules #GolfRulesQuestions #blakey
