Psst. Don’t tell Rich, but contrary to his belief he’s not actually streaming TV at home from a pizzeria. Fortunately, he’s less confused about the new Office 365 backup solution from SolarWinds, the new additions to Sophos’ MSP partner program, and the security-related predictions for 2020 that he discusses with Matt this episode. He’s also more or less on top of things during the insightful conversation he and Matt have with dynamic duo Terry and Andra Hedden, of Marketopia, about New Year’s marketing resolutions every MSP should make. Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, listen in if you want to know what your co-hosts have committed to for 2020. We’re hoping Rich’s plans include replacing the empty pizza box and set of rabbit ears he currently uses to watch Netflix. Subscribe to ChannelPro Weekly! I caught up with Terry Hedden from Marketopia for this podcast. Normally, I see Terry on the road, but we're going to miss each other for the next few months. AND he's got a big sales coaching event coming up while I'm down in Australia. So, it was good to catch up on the podcast. Terry started out as an IT service provider. He built and sold a 49 person MSP in 6 years. Now he runs Marketopia, the largest demand generation firm for MSPs. Marketopia provides outsourced marketing and outbound lead generation. As Terry says, they are most successful when an MSP lets them run the lead generation based on their proven process. In other words, when you try to do it differently, you are likely to be less successful. :-) This interview has a lot of detail on the services Marketopia offers (including some very good pricing information). In October, Marketopia is putting on a training event called 4U2Grow - see https://www.4u2grow.com/ for more information. The conference is October 8-11. My professional career started at the age of 14 when I followed the encouragement of my father to start my first venture. While enrolled full-time in college, I worked in sales for AT&T and as a IT consultant with EDS. After graduation from UF with my bachelor’s degree, I joined the Management Consulting practice of Ernst & Young LLP, now Cap Gemini, leading projects in IT Project Management, Post Merger Integration and ERP Implementations worldwide. I then moved to E.piphany, now Infor, as an executive in their Consulting organization leading CRM implementations for Fortune 100 firms before joining Lectra Systems as the CIO and Director of their North America and Caribbean Consulting Organization. In 2003, I left Lectra to start Infinity Business Systems, later renamed Infinity Technology Solutions, a leading IT service provider with operations throughout Florida and Georgia. Infinity provided a complete technology offering for hundreds of businesses, including hardware and software solutions, outsourcing, Managed IT Services, Cloud Solutions, VoIP Telephony, website and software development services. Infinity received numerous awards, including recognition as a Best Place to Work in Florida, 4 time winner of Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 500/5000, a 5 time winner of the 50 Fastest Growing Firms in Tampa, 3 time winner of Best Computer Support organization in Tampa Bay, Orlando Chamber’s Most Outstanding Small Business and Greater Tampa Chamber’s Business of the Year. I led Infinity to success transforming a $24,500 investment into one of the nation’s fastest growing and most successful Managed IT firms before selling Infinity to Zeno Office Solutions in 2012. I am currently the CEO of Cloud Guru. I enjoy giving back to the technology industry thru over 40 speaking engagements per year and consulting with firms on topics related to Cloud Computing, Managed IT Services and Entrepreneurship. I am a dedicated family man that runs his life based on Christian principles. Faith@Work features business people discussing their faith and the impact it has had on their life and work. How many touches does it take to break through? What kind of touches make the biggest difference? The more you leverage that multi-touch campaign concept, according to Terry Hedden, the more your ROI will go up. Terry is the CEO of Marketopia and is passionate about helping IT B2B companies grow through multi-touch marketing strategies and campaigns. We spoke with him at length about what multi-touch marketing looks like and how why your company can’t afford to not invest in this proven strategy.
Welcome to episode #30 of ChannelPro Weekly. And an action-packed episode it is! Rich kicks things off with a look at five red hot technology markets according to D&H, and Matt follows up with some thoughts about Microsoft's huge--and hugely underreported--decision to port Windows onto ARM-based hardware. That's followed by a look at public Wi-Fi hazards, holiday gifts ideas for your favorite geek, an exploration of the qualities that make a great salesperson tick that includes commentary from ex-salesguy Matt, an interview with MSP marketing expert Terry Hedden, and a visit to Matt's museum that returns us to those thrilling by-gone days when modems capable of transferring a megabyte a minute were actually considered fast.
