Mary Bourke is a Newcastle (NSW, Australia) based chiropractor with qualifications in pediatric chiropractic care. Her wealth of experience and passion for health and wellness improvement in young children starts right from the very early months when the reflexes present in the newborn transfer to those that assist their progressive global development. In this episode, Mary explains the nature of the primitive reflexes, how they integrate during infant development and the importance of allowing the infant to meet and progress through these developmental ‘milestones' for optimal childhood development. We explore how the opportunities are often lost in these modern times, and the child is denied the opportunity for the reflexes to integrate correctly. Mary then explains that when parents are aware, how their play-based assist can override the delays.  When primary reflexes are retained, the outcome can be reflected in the older child or adult, often presenting as unusual habits or tendencies. It is not uncommon that these need to be addressed through a collaboration of allied health therapies.Mary and I also discuss how as adults, we adapt to retained reflexes often without recognising what they are- you might recognise some in yourself!Contact Mary Bourke through the Vitality Junction Chiropractic clinic:Clinic@vitalityj.com.au612-249 691965

The insight of a general dentist with a mind that never stopped learning (and discovering) is now playing a significant role in helping a wide range of the population. When Dr Kevin Bourke, a Newcastle (Australia) based practitioner invented a chewing device in the 1960's he was ahead of his time. His insight then into the orofacial myofunctional world is playing out today into the lives of young and old and in this episode, I chat with his daughter and CEO of Myo Munchee Australia Dr Mary Bourke. We look at the history of the ‘munchee', the realms in which it is now being used and the effectiveness across a broad spectrum of care applications.  An experienced and passionate chiropractor herself,  Mary brings explains the role the chewing plays in physical and cognitive development and together we address some of the issues we see that are hampering a variety of the natural development and ongoing wellness in society today, and how the MyoMunchee is playing a beneficial role in regaining some lost ground for our clients.

Creamed Corn at the Lunchbox

We've got a guest on today's ep, comedian Mary Bourke! In Season 2, Episode 8, Roseanne attempted a musical dreamscape bottleneck episode. Worst episode ever? You be the judge, Cornballs. We all agree, it missed the mark a bit. Also, you can almost hear the tension as the three of us barrelled through with only one working microphone, so the sound quality on this one isn't great! Apologies, but hey! It does fit in with how awful this Roseanne episode is.    Bob Fosse/Michael Jackson dance moves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-qUMzMVzdw    Follow us: Subscribe and Review on iTunes! Our website! With Kirsty Lang. Skinny jeans, phone calls and cameramen recording intimate footage all appear in a mediaeval setting, in a new National Theatre production of Christopher Marlowe's Edward II. Making his debut at the National Theatre, director Joe Hill-Gibbins adds a modern twist to this erotic and brutal play, which stars John Heffernan in the title role. Jerry Brotton reviews. Alan Cumming stars in the film Any Day Now, set in the late 70s and based on a true story about a gay couple who become guardians of an abandoned young boy with Down's Syndrome. Everyone's delighted with the progress the child makes under their care - until the fact that they're gay becomes public knowledge. Alan Cumming discusses institutional homophobia both in the story and today, working on the US TV hit series The Good Wife - and cabaret-singing with Liza Minnelli. The exhibition Victoriana: The Art Of Revival features new art inspired by the Victorian era, with pieces from 28 artists including Grayson Perry, Paula Rego, and Jake and Dinos Chapman, and work ranging from ceramics to photography to taxidermy. Rachel Cooke reflects on what 21st century artists take from the 19th century. As the dust settles on this year's Edinburgh Fringe, one of the biggest stories to emerge from the festival was the rise of feminist comedy, culminating when Bridget Christie won the Fosters Comedy Award for her stand-up show, A Bic For Her. Nadia Kamil and Mary Bourke, who both brought feminist shows to Edinburgh this year, discuss how they went about making feminism funny. Producer Rebecca Nicholson.

2012 #5: Burns Baby Burns - Simon Munnery and Mary Bourke. After three days in a row of different audio failures one begins to suspect that the podcast is cursed. Today the desk finally recorded the show without a hitch, but that's not much use when the main guest hasn't shown up. ITV2's Brendon Burns was nowhere to be seen and couldn't be contacted and so the call went out for a replacement comic who didn't arrive until ten minutes into the show. Luckily for us all we had true comedy legend and Great British eccentric Simon Munnery as a super-sub to tell us all about his dining experience with no food, Cluub Z and the time he had a quarter of a million pounds to spend on hats. Margaret is back in the audience trawling for young men before returning to Durham and we get to find out which Dr Who monster she'd most like to have sex with. Richard lets us know why he loves Barry Cryer more than his own dad and explains his arch rivalry with the penguin and is no way treading water until a guest arrives. Mary Bourke has bothered to turn up and impresses with her stand-up. Burns later revealed he was asleep and will now be a guest on 14th instead- why do I have a feeling this might become like the boy who cried wolf?
