Today, we are covering an important topic today, but maybe not in the way you expect. I'm joined by Rachel Mulholland (aka Shug CM), a therapist whom I met on TikTok because of her incredible content around sex education for children. Today's focus is on how our lives as adults are impacted if we don't get comprehensive sex education as children. Join us for the conversation! Show Highlights: How KC's story from her teenage years illustrates the gaps that most people have in their education about sex and the fact that sex ed is NOT a one-time conversation How “purity culture” is impacting teenagers in certain places in the US in damaging ways How even most comprehensive sex ed doesn't address the pleasurable side of sex–and (for females) that the pleasure doesn't have to come from another person How sexual predators take advantage of the lack of information in sex ed from SAFE places Why parents have real fear about talking to their kids about sex ed The effects of NOT educating kids that sex and pleasure don't always go together Rachel's Four Pillars of Safe Sex: confirmation, communication, lubrication, and enthusiastic participation Why parents should be aware when their kids are ready to hear and learn–and begin at the most basic level appropriate for their age How to answer those first little-kid questions around, “Where do babies come from?” Why curiosity is a foundational part of body talk for kids–not just around sexuality How parents can work through their own feelings around sex ed with their children Why Rachel's next project is a book about body talk Resources: Connect with Rachel: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Website (coming soon!) A health group says the Government's health targets don't tell the full story of the system. Three of the five Government's targets are on track, but two are worse than the previous quarter. Wait lists for elective treatments and a first specialist assessment have worsened, but child vaccination rates have improved, alongside cancer treatment times and ED stay lengths. Patient Voice Aotearoa Chair Malcolm Mulholland told Andrew Dickens the ED wait time metric doesn't include walkouts. He's aware of a case in Palmerston North where a patient walked out of its ED because it was overwhelmed, and died the following day. He's also doubting how cancer treatments are measured. Mulholland told Andrew Dickens it looks at the time from the first appointment to first treatment, instead of diagnosis. He says patients are waiting eight weeks or longer at Waikato, Christchurch, Wellington and Southland hospitals, and some outcomes have been lethal. The Napier community feels underwhelmed despite retaining its overnight urgent care. The Government's back tracking on a leaked proposal to cut the service due to low demand, which sparked community backlash. It will remain nurse-led, but with no doctors on-site. Patient Voice Aotearoa Chair Malcolm Mulholland told Francesca Rudkin the community deserves a robust urgent care service, including a GP. He says they do feel like they've been let down by the government. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
William Mulholland was summoned to the St. Francis Dam in San Francisquito Canyon early March 12, 1928, to inspect some leaks that workers found worrisome. Mulholland shrugged off the concerns and declared the dam -- the 19th he'd designed alone to feed water to the parched desert of Los Angeles -- perfectly safe. Hours later, the dam gave way, releasing billions of gallons of water downstream, killing more than 400 people. Thom Francis introduces us to Poetic License and three poets - Megeen Mulholland, Charlie Rossiter, and Jennifee – who shared their work at the first exhibit reading in 2022 at the Art Associates Gallery in Albany. “Ekphrastic art” is defined as the response of an artist in one medium to a work of art by an artist in another medium. Its more common manifestation is in poetry written about visual art, e.g., paintings, photographs, drawings, sculpture. Poetic License is a project that turns that around, giving local visual artists an opportunity to respond to the work of poets. In 2022, inspired by a project created by the Poetry Barn in West Hurley, NY & the Arts Society of Kingston (ASK), the Hudson Valley Writers Guild and the Upstate Artists Guild created their own version of this project which they called Poetic License – Albany. 113 individual poems were submitted by 62 poets; ultimately, 18 works of visual art were exhibited at the Art Associates Gallery & at Lark Hall in Albany, with 3 readings held in conjunction with the exhibits. The Hudson Valley Writers Guild & the Upstate Artists Guild are excited to work together again to present this opportunity in 2025 for collaboration between poets and visual artists in the Capital District. For more information on the Poetic License project, go to https://www.poeticlicensealbany.com/

Suzanne Mulholland aka The Batch Lady has become a household name thanks to her simple (and delicious) meals that can be made in advance to make sure there's always an answer to that question 'what's for dinner?'. But Suzanne didn't come to this through her love of cooking- quite the opposite. After working in the city as a time management guru for many years, Suzanne turned her organisational skills to family life when her own children came along. She decided that coming up with and cooking dinner from scratch every night wasn't for her, but she still wanted to provide delicious, healthy food for her family, so she started batching. The parents at school asked how Suzanne did it, she shared this through a charity batch cooking evening, and the response was such that Suzanne decided to share it more widely, and started The Batch Lady. But it wasn't all plain sailing. Many of her friends thought she was crazy to put herself out on social media, but she had big dreams and it was an essential step to help achieve them. Fast forward to now, and her fifth book has just hit the shelves (it's BRILLIANT), as well as her first TV series, Batch from Scratch, which she presents with Joe Swash. To find out more about Suzanne, see www.thebatchlady.com. To grab your copy of You've Got This, head to Amazon or Bloomsbury

As many of you know, I came up in this industry through nightlife. In the early 2000's, nightlife was defined by prolific nightclubs that burned red-hot, only to close six months later. But that wasn't the story for Jamie Mulholland. For more than two decades, Jamie has built brands that last, like Cain and Goldbar. Today we sit down to discuss his latest project, Ketchy Shuby, and the elements he's infused into the concept to ensure that it lasts decades as well. The biggest change to the Treasury market has been algorithmic trading, and the proliferation of high-frequency trading firms (HFTs) and principal trading firms (PTFs), those two are really the main market makers in the inter-dealer broker screens, says Dan Mulholland, senior managing director and head of sales and trading at Crews and Associates. Mulholland is joined by host, and Bloomberg Intelligence's chief US rates strategist Ira Jersey to discuss evolutions in Treasury trading and market structure. The pair discuss the shifts in depth of book and liquidity intermediation throughout the market, in addition to the drivers and potential risks of the basis trade. They also discuss recent moves in the Treasury market and expectations around Federal Reserve rate cuts, as well as how they may evolve into 2025. It's been a season of transitions, with both endings and new beginnings. I've been fortunate to travel all over the world this year, including Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Ireland, and Aruba. After a period of constant movement, it feels good to know that I'll be home for most of the time moving forward. The crazy travel is coming to an end, at least for now. My birthday just passed, marking my 47th trip around the sun. 47 years old! Another new beginning. Wow! Remember when that used to feel old? Well, not anymore. There have also been some significant beginnings and endings in my corporate work. While I won't dive into the details, I've found that transitions in work can stir up emotions too. I'm sharing this because it's important to acknowledge that we bring our whole selves to work. When things are in a state of flux, it's okay to feel excited, sad, worried, frustrated—whatever feels right for you at the moment. My guest today, Jennifer Mulholland, joins me for a conversation on a much-needed topic—what it means to practice Conscious Leadership. As the memes say, anyone can be a manager, but it takes radical honesty, self-awareness, a sense of responsibility for ourselves and our people, a willingness to put in the work, and so much more to truly be a leader.During our conversation, Jennifer and I discussed:The story behind Jennifer co-founding Plenty ConsultingWhat ThetaHealing is, and how it's similar and different from ReikiHow Jennifer integrates both the practical and the spiritual in her work with individual clients, groups, and corporationsWhy passion—what gets us up in the morning—is so important to JenniferHer book, Leading with Light: Choosing Conscious Leadership When You're Ready for More, and the four lights of conscious leadershipHow surrender plays a crucial role in Conscious Leadership

Throughout the episode, Andy underscores the critical role of proper bookkeeping and financial reporting. He explains that receiving monthly financial updates is non-negotiable for any serious business owner. Relying on outdated quarterly or yearly reports simply won't cut it if you want to stay ahead of the curve and make informed decisions. He also stresses the importance of having simplified and effective bookkeeping that is easy for real estate agents to understand and use, so that they can focus on their business rather than getting bogged down in confusing financial reports. “There's so many things you can glean from having the right numbers in place, so powerful and really the right numbers, just so everybody's clear on what I think needs to be included in your real estate business book, books. It's called your chart of accounts.” In this episode, let's discuss: The Need for Real Estate-Specific Bookkeeping: Andy emphasizes how crucial it is to work with bookkeepers who understand the unique commission-based nature of real estate. Challenges of Lifestyle Creep: Andy warns against increasing personal spending when income rises and explains how this can hinder business growth, especially when transitioning from solo agent to team leader. The Role of Proper Bookkeeping: Andy outlines key bookkeeping practices for success, including the importance of receiving regular monthly financial reports and having a simplified yet effective bookkeeping system to guide business decisions.
