In Seattle, business owners face a harrowing reality: rampant property crime with little to no government intervention. This bleak scenario is epitomized by Matt Humphrey, owner of Ballard's Seal Barber and Spa, who has suffered four break-ins in two years. Similarly, MK Burn, a jewelry store owner, has been broken into seven times in just two and a half years, even resorting to sleeping in her store with her dog for protection. These frequent incidents, often caught on camera, have left the business community disillusioned and frustrated with the city's response. Many, like Humphrey, feel trapped in a cycle of crime and inaction, with moving out of Seattle posing a financial risk akin to bankruptcy. This sentiment echoes across the city, as business owners call for urgent, effective measures to combat the surge in retail theft and break-ins, a situation they believe is exacerbated by soft crime policies and a failing legal system. As businesses struggle to stay afloat, the question looms: will Seattle's leadership rise to the challenge? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/darien-dunstan3/message

Merry Christmas!! We hope you have been encouraged by these podcasts this Christmas season. Today, our GVL Teaching Pastor, Matt Humphrey walks us through Matthew 2:1-12."Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.” King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem. He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law and asked, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?” “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said, “for this is what the prophet wrote: ‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah, for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.'” Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared. Then he told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!” After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod."- Matthew 2:1-12

NASCAR Track Communications veteran Matt Humphrey joins Davey (6:25) this week to discuss his career in motorsports and working for the sanctioning body for the last decade plus. Humphrey played an intricate role behind the scenes in the marketing and planning of the Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and explains how the one-of-a-kind event went off without a hitch. He also outlines what his day-to-day entails from a track communications perspective. Humphrey recalls how the trajectory of his life changed at a young age, as he chose to drop out of college in his first year (where he was on a music scholarship) when he started a family. Forced to make a living to provide as a teenager, he picked up a job at the local sewage plant that he kept until he got sick of it...and from it. He explains how a trip to the hospital made him decide to pursue journalism full bore, which led him all over the country and eventually to Orlando, where he forged a relationship with a young, up-and-coming driver by the name of Jimmie Johnson. Plus, how he's learned to be adaptable to the ever-changing media landscape, the story of how a webcam helped him land a job at NASCAR, his transition from journalism to PR, meeting his now wife at Daytona, moving out West in his new role, his passion for traveling and what Humphrey's long-term career goal is in the sport. On site at The World Center of Racing, Davey also gives a preview preview of the Daytona 500 this weekend, chats about his experience in Los Angeles at The Clash and Papa Segal pays homage to a racers racer.

We've finally reached the end of the road: 52 weeks, 7,000 miles, 14 million steps and a wedding to seal the year. This week, we recap our euphoric marathon wedding day with good friend Matt Humphrey as well as reflect on what the project meant to us and where we go from here.
Matt is a writer, educator, and Anglican priest. He serves as director of theological education for A Rocha Canada and is community life minister of the Abbey Church in Victoria and the curator of Wild Church Victoria, and he's a member of the Emmaus Community—a New Monastic community committed to prayer, simplicity and presence. His passion for creation care as Christian practice is infectious and reminds us of the importance of integrating our beliefs in every aspect of everyday life.
Matt Humphrey does not need a lot of motivation to get to work because the sensory overload he experiences from being on the infield of a track stands his hair on end and keeps him excited to come back as Director, Racing Communications at NASCAR. In this episode, Matt discusses why he thinks NASCAR is at the dawning of a golden age, sharing how a revamped schedule and celebrity ownership, among other things, have a lot to do with that. He also provides an insider’s look at what was like to be one of the very first sports to return to competition following the initial COVID-19 suspension. Matt also shares how he keeps up with drivers across a number of different racing circuits, how he and his colleagues prepare to handle a serious incident on a track and how it benefits NASCAR that so many people in all aspects of the sport tend to stay involved for many, many years.
Today we spoke with alumnus Matt Humphrey. As Director of Theological Education for A Rocha Canada, Matt is a passionate advocate for a Christian vision of creation care. How do environmental issues fit into Christian discipleship? How do we cultivate a right relationship to place and space in a mobile society? And is it possible to engage with these issues without getting political? Join us for this challenging and thought-provoking conversation. Welcome to No Pressure - a podcast for creatives, theatre makers, artists, and ambitious souls with host, Matt Humphrey, photographer and founder of CurtainCall, In this episode I am so honoured to be talking to producer REBECCA WOOLCOCK - Lead Producer with Hartshorn Hook and Immersive Everywhere. This podcast is all about creators and theatre makers like Rebecca - the people that make things happen, who are up against it every day, and yet you’d never know it. This is perhaps especially true right now - in the midst of lockdown that has been shaking our industry from the very core. As theatres, production companies and venues across the country face tremendous uncertainty and potential closure - we find ourselves at a pivotal moment. This podcast was recorded at the tail end of 2019 - BC - Before Covid - and a lot has happened since then. You may be pleased to hear that there is a good news story here, as Rebecca’s company Immersive Everywhere have recently announced that they will be opening a Covid-secure immersive production of Great Gatsby in London in October. http://immersiveeverywhere.com/ www.immersivedoctorwho.com https://immersivegatsby.com/event/the-great-gatsby
This week we are bringing you the creatives behind the Curtain Call virtual play reading series “The Remote Read”. Tonight, May 2nd, we are producing a remote reading of Sir Tom Stoppard’s Play “A Separate Peace” Starring David Morrissey, Jenna Coleman, Denise Gough, Ed Stoppard and Maggie Service directed by award-winning stage and screen director Sam Yates. The reading will benefit the Felix Project and those professionals who have found themselves out of work during the Covid-19 pandemic. On today’s episode are the show’s producers. Myself and Matt Humphrey from Curtain Call and from Platform Presents, Gala Gordon and Isabella Macpherson. Due to the time we recorded this, Tim Kashani from Apples and Oranges Studios wasn’t able to join. This has been one hell of an adventure, and when we set out on this project merely two weeks ago, we had no idea how big it would become. All of the producers on this project could not be more proud of The Remote Read’s first offering. It takes a special type of person to be a producer, dropping everything and making sure everyone else is being looked after for the good of the production. But, as you can hear in this episode, we all love it. Get tickets at theremoteread.com

When it comes to the fix ‘n’ flip real estate lending space it is still very much a cottage industry with many small players in local areas providing loans to their network.
