The cause of much debate for riders who fondly remember the early years of mountain biking, we call in two of our in-house experts from CyclingPlus and MBUK to debate whether gravel riding is just mountain biking from the 90s. Both Robin Weaver and Warren Rossiter rode and raced mountain bikes across multiple disciplines in the 1990s, but today enjoy riding and testing modern gravel bikes alongside their usual helpings of 21st century road and mountain bikes.Has gravel riding backfilled the void left by the progression of mountain biking tracks and tech? Or are we looking at something new altogether? This episode is brought to you by Hammerhead. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
While you can spend a whole lot less and still end up with a great bike, £3,000 is around the point you begin to see serious performance on a mountain bike.BikeRadar technical editors Tom Marvin and Alex Evans sit down with MBUK staff writer Will Soffe to discuss what their perfect £3k mountain bike would look like at this competitive price point.Where is your hard-earned cash best spent? And where should you save? Or should you buy a cheaper bike and spend the rest on fun? All is revealed in this week's episode of the BikeRadar Podcast. MBUK's Will Soffe has spent years spannering, coaching and setting up bikes for everyone from regular riders up to racers at World Cup XC and DH level, so he knows a thing or two about getting a bike 'just so'. BikeRadar's Technical Editors discuss whether carbon fibre wheels improve on-trail performance and feel, and are worth their asking price. Off the back of Tom's MBUK and BikeRadar wheels group test – where he tested 12 wheels ranging from £360 to £1,899 in both aluminium and carbon fibre – he noticed that he couldn't feel any discernible difference between the two materials. True to BikeRadar's mission to give you guys the best buying advice out there, Tom talks through his findings. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Join BikeRadar Technical Editors Tom Marvin and Alex Evans, and MBUK's Will Soffe as they discuss the most memorable, shocking, fun and agonising mountain bike races they've taken part in over the last 18 years. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
He's inspired many riders from his amazing videos, (us included), putting his own spin on Trials back in early 00's. He even had a frame made after him, The 24/7 Danny Holroyd, Mod-stock. (first of its kind) but does he still ride now?
Following on from the highly eventful round of Downhill World Cup in Lets Gets, France, just recently, the MBUK and BikeRadar team and have been trawling the race footage every related web page to find out just what the riders and mechanics are doing with bike set up to allow them to ride as fast as possible. Rob, Luke and Will do their best to dissect the latest tech and attempt to pick out the trends. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week we’re continuing the mountain bike testing theme. I recently got invited to a ride with MBUK and BikeRadar Tech Editor, Rob Weaver, and owner and designer of Cotic Bikes, Cy Turner. Cy wanted to spend some time with Rob to get his thoughts on the review of their bike in the recent Bike of the Year test. So I thought it would be a good opportunity to sit down and find out if mountain bike designers and testers actually get on. We chat about how the Bike of the Year test works. Then we find out what it’s like as a designer when your bike goes on test, and how Cy deals with the positive and negatives that come with it. This was a fascinating insight into the relationship between a bike brand and a journalist and I hope you enjoy listening. So sit back, hit play and give this episode with Rob Weaver and Cy Turner a listen. You can check out Rob's work on bikeradar.com and in MBUK magazine here. You can find Cotic at cotic.co.uk, on Instagram @coticbikes and on YouTube here. Supporting Partners CushCore I’ve been riding CushCore for over two years now and I love the changes it makes to the way my bike rides. It’s more damped, carries momentum better through rough terrain as it doesn’t get held up so much on square edges, and it has more support in the turns. CushCore really does help you go bigger, corner harder and ride faster with total confidence! If you’re based in the UK then you can purchase them directly from Silverfish over at silverfish-uk.com. If you’re elsewhere in the world, then check out cushcore.com. Nukeproof Nukeproof have given their ridewear range a massive overhaul. As part of this, they’ve been really focussed on the environmental side of things, now using Bluesign approved fabrics and OEKO-TEX certification wherever possible. They are also committed to reduce wastage from previous seasons fabrics with their ‘dead-stock line’ which will use the offcuts and wastage to create limited runs of products in high-end premium fabrics. There are 3 main ranges, the first of which is Outland, which is designed to work well on the bike, but to not look out of place off it, so it has subtle branding and is perfect for those post ride beers. Then there is the Blackline range, which is designed to perform all day long in the saddle. Finally there is Blackline Race which is what their team riders will be competing in, and is designed to be the ultimate gear for athletes performing at the highest level. If you want to check it out for yourself, then head over to nukeproof.com to see the entire range. Hey Podcast! Today I’m speaking to Guy Kesteven. I used to read mountain bike magazines as a teenager and would read reviews from Guy all the time, so it’s really cool having him on the podcast today! Guy has been in the industry since 1989 and has been a pro bike tester for U.K. magazines like MBUK since 1997. That means he’s ridden and reviewed literally thousands of bikes and components! He also now has his YouTube channel - Guy Kes TV where he reviews bikes on video, he’s head of bike for the Yorkshire Cycle Expo and he’s the author of the book 1001 bicycles to dream of riding. If you get chance, please leave a review and don't forget to subscribe! Britain's best selling bike magazine has just come back from a feature trip to Spain. We videoed some of the best action from the trip - from the likes of Gee Atherton and UK freeride king Chris Smith. You can read all about it in the mag, but here's the best place to see the footage you won't find anywhere else. We've got a front row seat to all the best action, and we're letting you join us.
