In December of 2021, Sawyer was halfway through their final year of college in a world that was still reeling from the pandemic. Home for the holidays, Sawyer got the heartbreaking news that their older brother, Jason, had died by suicide - a before-and-after moment that continues to reverberate today. Sawyer shares their nuanced perspective on grief, delving into how mental health, incarceration, and other systemic barriers impacted Jason's life and death. We also explore how the phrase, "It's not your fault," while well-intentioned, can leave little space for those who are grieving to truly reckon with both guilt and regret. We discuss: Jason's artistry, love of cars, and enduring pride in Sawyer's academic accomplishments Navigating grief while finishing college and graduating The intersection of grief and institutional failures, including incarceration, a lack of stable housing, and inadequate mental health support How peer support - both formal and informal - gave Sawyer space to reckon with both grief and guilt The power of logistical support to help those who are grieving If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. You can call 988, the National Crisis Line, or text HELLO to 741-741. In episode three of the Brickyard Series, Blackline goes behind the scenes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Tyrone Garrison ahead of the 110th Indy 500.In this conversation, we walk the track, drive the facility, and uncover what it really takes to operate and maintain one of the most iconic race venues in the world. From the history of the bricks to the responsibility of preparing for race day, Tyrone shares the care, planning, and hard work that happen long before the green flag ever drops. But this conversation goes beyond racing. For Tyrone, the Indy 500 represents honoring the men and women who came before us, respecting the tradespeople and workers who make events like this possible, and remembering the people who do the work when nobody is looking. At Blackline, these are the stories we want to shine a light on because the comforts we enjoy and the experiences we love only exist because someone was willing to show up and do the hard work. One of the biggest takeaways from this episode:Hard work creates opportunity.Step up to the line with us as we go behind the scenes before the race starts. --------------------------WHERE TO WATCH:Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/07rT0hF...Apple https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...-------------------------FOLLOW JOSH:X: https://x.com/Joshuadmellott... / joshuadmellott LinkedIn: / TikTok: / ucc11qg6hxwp7tmvmr_sv7vg --------------------------FOLLOW BLACKLINE: @blacklineltdInstagram: / blacklinelt. .Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...LinkedIn: / YouTube: / @blacklineltd Website: https://www.blacklineltd.com/--------------------------EXPLORE THE PODCASTSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/07rT0hF...Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...

This week, Blackline spent time in Georgia with Ruby-Collins, a general contractor that does things a little differently. From civil work to plant work, underground, boring, and more—this is a team that's been building for nearly 60 years out of Smyrna, Georgia. In this episode of The Line, we sit down with Jason Hyde, one of their VPs, inside their newly built office to talk about what they do, how they operate, and how they've been able to bridge the gap between generations. Not just talk about it—actually do it.What we saw is this: when leadership is intentional—when you care about people, when you listen, and when you have a clear vision for the future—you can bring the office and the field together… and you can bring generations together. And when that happens, both get stronger.Jason shares what their leadership has done to create a culture where people collaborate, grow, and move forward together. If you want to be a champion, you've got to be willing to pay the dues. This is The Line.See what Ruby-Collins is building. --------------------------WHERE TO WATCH:Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/07rT0hF...Apple https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...-------------------------FOLLOW JOSH:X: https://x.com/Joshuadmellott... / joshuadmellott LinkedIn: / TikTok: / ucc11qg6hxwp7tmvmr_sv7vg --------------------------FOLLOW BLACKLINE: @blacklineltdInstagram: / blacklinelt. .Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...LinkedIn: / YouTube: / @blacklineltd Website: https://www.blacklineltd.com/--------------------------EXPLORE THE PODCASTSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/07rT0hF...Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...

Send us Fan MailThis wave of product launches, acquisitions, and platform expansions highlights how enterprise software vendors are rapidly embedding AI, data integration, and domain-specific intelligence deeper into their operational cores. Announcements such as Anaplan's role-based AI agents, Pipefy's expanded AI agent availability, and Beroe's integration with the Model Context Protocol signal a shift toward agent-driven orchestration and context-aware automation across planning, procurement, and workflow execution. At the same time, acquisitions like BlackLine's purchase of WiseLayer and ECI Software Solutions' acquisition of Amper Technologies reflect a strategic push to strengthen financial automation and real-time manufacturing visibility. Meanwhile, platform enhancements from BillingPlatform, Certinia, Propel Software, and Avetta emphasize tighter integration across revenue lifecycle management, ESG compliance, product development, and supplier governance. Collectively, these developments illustrate a broader industry transition toward AI-native, composable enterprise architectures designed to improve decision quality, accelerate execution, and deliver measurable operational outcomes. In today's episode, we invited a panel of industry analysts for a live discussion on LinkedIn to analyze current enterprise software stories. Send us a textThis week's enterprise software news highlights a widening gap between glossy innovation narratives and the hard operational and governance realities shaping buyer risk. On the innovation side, BlackLine's launch of Verity for the Office of the CFO, Tray.ai's Agent Hub, Genstore's $10M seed round, and Blue Yonder's new TMS features underscore the accelerating push toward AI-enabled automation and orchestration layers across finance, integration, and supply chain. Versori's partnership with Fluent Commerce and Acumatica's 2025 R2 update further signal growing emphasis on ecosystem connectivity and incremental platform modernization. At the same time, the darker counterpoint is impossible to ignore: Zimmer Biomet's $172M ERP lawsuit against Deloitte, a major European city council's continued delays in fixing a failed Oracle system, and the EU Commission's investigation into SAP's practices reinforce how execution risk, vendor governance, and regulatory scrutiny are now front-and-center issues for enterprise buyers. Taken together, these developments reflect a market bifurcating between rapid AI-driven experimentation and escalating consequences for large-scale ERP missteps—raising the strategic stakes for both technology selection and transformation leadership. In today's episode, we invited a panel of industry analysts for a live discussion on LinkedIn to analyze current enterprise software stories. Send us a textThis cluster of announcements illustrates how enterprise software vendors are converging on monetizable AI, composable ecosystems, and domain-specific depth rather than headline platform reinvention. Product expansions such as BillingPlatform's RevenueIQ suite, Epicor's outcomes-based ERP AI agent, and BlackLine's Verity for the CFO signal a shift toward AI that is tightly anchored to measurable financial and operational outcomes. At the same time, M&A and alliances—including IFS acquiring 7bridges, Salesforce's planned acquisition of Regrello, QAD partnering with Esker, and Versori partnering with Fluent Commerce—reinforce a strategy of filling execution gaps through targeted capabilities rather than broad-suite sprawl. Underpinning much of this activity, Oracle's deployment of GPT-5 across its database and SaaS portfolio underscores how foundational AI services are becoming embedded infrastructure, while workforce and go-to-market expansions from ActivTrak and Capacity's acquisition of KLaunch highlight continued investment in productivity, adoption, and execution at the edges of the enterprise stack. In today's episode, we invited a panel of industry analysts for a live discussion on LinkedIn to analyze current enterprise software stories. Ryan shares what he hopes people take away from being part of this work, and why the organization exists—to bring real value to its members and to advocate for something larger than any one company or project: a better backyard for all of us.At a time when minerals, strategic reserves, and national security dominate the news, this conversation serves as an important reminder. Mining—and the resources beneath our feet—have always played a critical role in sustaining our way of life. That hasn't changed. What often changes is our awareness of it.We've been honored to walk alongside the Better In Our Backyard team and to better understand the work they're doing. Our hope is that these conversations uncover something for you as well—reminding us of what matters, what deserves our focus, and why perseverance matters, especially in an industry that knows difficulty and pressure firsthand. From the entire Blackline team to Better In Our Backyard, thank you—for your leadership, your conviction, and your commitment to helping companies and organizations bring value, raise awareness, and operate responsibly. For 250 years, this country has been built by men and women willing to step up to the line—willing to walk on the dirt, stand on the ground, and do the work that begins at the bedrock. Long before headlines and soundbites, there was responsibility. There was stewardship. There was an understanding that what lies beneath our feet matters, because it supports everything above it—our communities, our economy, and our way of life.As we enter the first four weeks of January 2026, Blackline—in partnership with Better In Our Backyard—will be sharing a four-part series of real, honest conversations rooted in that foundation. Each week, we'll release an episode leading into the Better In Our Backyard Annual Dinner on January 15, centered on responsible industrial development, strong local economies, and the people who do the work that sustains modern life. The series unfolds in four parts: The Dirt. The Ground. The Bedrock. And The Backyard. These conversations are about more than industry—they're about responsibility. About developing resources the right way. About investing in local workforces, strengthening communities, and educating people on why domestic mining, manufacturing, and infrastructure matter. Better In Our Backyard exists to bring value to the companies, organizations, and men and women who walk on the dirt, stand on the ground, and build on the bedrock of this country—so families can thrive and communities can endure.Over the next four weeks, follow along—and stand alongside other like-minded men, women, and organizations who believe a stronger future is built locally, intentionally, and with care. If that resonates, you can learn more and register to attend the Better In Our Backyard Annual Dinner on January 15 through the link. Because a better economy, a better community, and a better future all start the same way—right here, in our backyard.--------------------------WHERE TO WATCH:Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/07rT0hFAsPAZYCUF4OMBB7 Apple https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-line/id1722664848-------------------------FOLLOW JOSH:X: https://x.com/JoshuadmellottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/JoshuadmellottLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshua-d-mellott-0b0525118/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@UCC11qG6HXWP7TmVMr_Sv7Vg--------------------------FOLLOW BLACKLINE: @blacklineltd Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blacklineltd?igsh=a2wwbzJ3Y3Jjd2o4Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095504736514LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/blackline-ltd/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@blacklineLTDWebsite: https://www.blacklineltd.com/--------------------------EXPLORE THE PODCASTSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/07rT0hFAsPAZYCUF4OMBB7?si=0da16a8fb2574ca4Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-line/id1722664848

A lot of people don't know this, but Blackline has its very own institute. Blackline Institute is a registered apprenticeship program in the state of Pennsylvania. Earlier this year we partnered with a company called Go Sprout to help us maintain records. They work directly with the state and the government in order to make sure that all the paperwork is properly recorded and the help with our training from an online standpoint. 3440 Blackline CIO and CTO on Governing AI Inside the Enterprise

What happens when a CTO and a CIO of a global tech company sit down together to talk about AI? That's the starting point of today's episode, where I'm joined by Jeremy Ung, CTO at Blackline, and Sumit Johar, the company's CIO. Rather than chasing the hype, we focus on what AI really means for executive decision making, governance, and business outcomes. Both leaders open up about how their partnership is blurring the traditional lines between product and IT, and why the board is demanding answers on topics that once sat deep in the technology stack. Jeremy and Sumit explain why AI is not just another SaaS subscription and why expectations have changed so dramatically. For decades, technology was seen as predictable, a rules-based engine that followed instructions without error. AI feels different because it speaks, reasons, and sometimes makes mistakes. That human-like experience is what excites employees, but it is also what unsettles them. This is where education and governance come in, helping teams learn how to question, verify, and trace AI outputs before they make critical decisions. We also explore how AI agents are beginning to work across tools like SharePoint and email, raising new compliance and security questions that CIOs and CTOs must answer together. The conversation turns to AI sprawl, a problem that mirrors the SaaS explosion of a decade ago. With new AI tools emerging every week, enterprises risk overlapping investments and fragmented initiatives. Sumit shares how Blackline uses two governance councils to keep projects aligned. One is dedicated to risk, pulling in voices from legal, security, and privacy. The other is focused on transformation, evaluating whether requests for new AI capabilities make sense, or whether they duplicate what already exists. The signal that sprawl is taking root, he says, is when requests for tools suddenly jump from a few each month to a dozen. We also tackle the build versus buy dilemma. Budgets haven't magically increased just because AI is hot. Jeremy argues that building only makes sense when it reinforces a company's core advantage. Everything else should be bought, integrated, and kept flexible so that organizations can pivot as the AI landscape changes. Both leaders stress that trust, auditability, and value delivery must sit at the center of every investment decision.

NOTE: This episode contains discussion and themes of suicide and suicide prevention. Within weeks I will publish my first book, TransparentSEE: How I learned to SEE through my journey as a parent of a transgender kiddo . I share a few excerpts with you today as a means of connection and sharing of my story of moving through all of the discomfort that comes with being raw, open and vulnerable. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention states, “There's no single cause for suicide. Suicide most often occurs when stressors and health issues converge to create an experience of hopelessness and despair.” Efforts that counter loneliness and isolation all point to human connection.  I believe connection is a vital component of suicide prevention, long before a person exhibits warning signs.  I am in no way suggesting this as a quick fix or a replacement for adequate mental health care and being proactive about getting it.Showing up vulnerably is the only way to “true connection.”  Shooting the breeze about what you had for lunch,  how was work/school, or did you see the latest movie aren't going to cut it. Heartfelt, raw and authentic sharing followed by open ended, thoughtful questions is a pathway to true connection. Note that the pathway I am describing is indefinite, different for everyone and subject to your intuition of what is best for you in your situation. As you listen to an excerpt of my story, may your heart be touched and opened to the idea of sharing yours with your loved ones.Sources cited: The Trevor ProjectJohns Hopkins MedicineCrisis Resources:Trevor Project (1-866-488-7386) SAMHSA National Helpline (1-800-662-HELP or 1-800-662-4357) NAMI Helpline (1-800-950-NAMI, or 1-800-950-6264)National Eating Disorder Association Helpline (1-800-931-2237)BlackLine (1-800-604-5841)National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) StrongHearts Native Helpline (1-844-7-NATIVE, or 1-844-762-8483Deaf Crisis Line (1-321-800-3323)____________________________Register for First Friday's Free coaching and learn other ways to work with me: https://paperbell.me/meagan-skidmorehttps://meaganskidmorecoaching.com.Please help the podcast grow by following, leaving a 5 star review on Spotify or Apple podcasts and sharing with friends.Living Beyond the Shadow of Doubt™ is a proud member of the Dialogue Podcast Network [DialogueJournal.com/podcasts].Hopeful Spaces, a monthly support group facilitated by Meagan Skidmore Coaching, is a Dallas Hope Charities component of Hopeful Discussions sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services USA. While traditional automation and GenAI are making inroads in 2025, Southeast Asian CFOs face persistent efficiency challenges demanding more sophisticated solutions. Agentic AI emerges as a promising, albeit complex, answer by enabling autonomous execution of intricate finance workflows. Its potential lies not just in incremental efficiency gains, but in fundamentally reshaping the finance function's operating model towards greater speed, accuracy, and strategic focus. Success hinges on overcoming significant data, governance, and talent challenges. In this PodChats for FutureCFO, Nikhil Parambath, Regional Vice President, Asia, BlackLine, offers his thoughts and some suggestions for senior finance leaders looking to step out of the shadows of AI and into the real-world possibilities of Agentic AI as applied within the finance function.Nikhil, welcome to PodChats for FutureCFO1.       Which specific finance processes (e.g., closing, reconciliation, reporting, compliance) still represent the biggest bottlenecks to efficiency and strategic agility within the finance function in Asia in 2025?2.       Where have traditional automation tools (like RPA) fallen short in delivering the transformative efficiency gains finance needs, particularly in our complex, diverse SEA operating environments?3.       From your observation, how would you assess finance leaders in Southeast Asia in terms of their understanding of AI, Generative AI and Agentic AI (framed in the context of 2025)?4.       For SEA finance leaders prioritising efficiency in 2026, what are the 1-2 most compelling, near-term practical applications of Agentic AI within core finance operations (e.g., dynamic forecasting, intelligent reconciliation, autonomous fraud detection)?5.       What foundational data governance and integration challenges must SEA finance functions urgently address now to be ready to leverage this technology effectively in 2026?6.       As AI agents potentially execute multi-step processes autonomously, how should finance leaders rethink internal controls, audit trails, and human oversight mechanisms to ensure accuracy, compliance, and ethical operation?7.       How can Agentic AI agents be practically integrated with existing ERP systems, legacy platforms, and other best-of-breed finance applications common across SEA businesses without creating untenable complexity or risks?8.       If Agentic AI takes over complex operational execution, how must the skillset and role of the finance professional evolve in 2026? What does "strategic business partnering" look like in this context, and how do we upskill our SEA teams?9.       Traditional cost savings aside, what new metrics should CFOs use to evaluate the true efficiency and strategic value delivered by Agentic AI implementations within the finance function in 2026 (e.g., speed to insight, reduction in manual intervention points, improved forecast accuracy)?10.   Finally, any recommendations for how should SEA finance leaders strike the optimal balance for 2026 and beyond?

In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I welcomed back Sumit Johar, CIO at BlackLine, for a timely conversation about how AI is transforming finance operations from the inside out. When we last spoke earlier this year, AI was still in the early stages of enterprise experimentation. Just a few months later, everything has shifted. Sumit shared how AI has moved well beyond pilot programs and into a space where business leaders themselves are actively requesting implementations. What stood out in our conversation was how this change has reshaped the relationship between CIOs and CFOs. The skepticism is fading, and a stronger sense of collaboration is emerging as both sides work together to drive transformation, align strategies, and reimagine outcomes. We explored the growing need for CIOs to be “multilingual”—not in the linguistic sense, but in their ability to navigate both technology and business. It's no longer enough to speak in code or technical jargon. CIOs must understand finance workflows, end-to-end processes, and the operational pressures CFOs face every day. This alignment is critical when evaluating how and where to deploy AI. Sumit also unpacked some of the core challenges around AI integration, including data quality, long-term sustainability, security, and ethical use. Unlike previous SaaS waves, AI adoption carries more complex risk vectors. Demos might impress, but real-world deployments demand rigorous controls, responsible governance, and the right culture. The conversation covered the ongoing build versus buy dilemma, why it's context-specific, and how BlackLine approaches those decisions with long-term scalability in mind. Sumit also shared how internal councils and cross-functional collaboration have helped guide AI strategy across the organization. If you're leading digital transformation or building the next phase of AI integration in your finance or IT teams, this episode offers clear, experience-driven insights. What's your organization doing to prepare for AI not as a concept, but as a day-to-day operational reality?

At Blackline our vision is to lift the view of the skilled trades and our mission is to communicate that the people have value. Let us give a little context as to why we have a vision statement and mission statement at BLACKLINE. A vision is something that you see, you envision, and you never really are done with a vision. It changed his life. They changed the course of his life and what it is that he would do. Andrew Brown introduces himself as a skilled trade advocate. It's by George Budwell and featured on finance.yahoo.com. Here are a few quotes on what he says about each of his recommendations. “1. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has established a dominant position as the leader in AI hardware and software, with CEO Jensen Huang recently declaring that the ‘vast majority' of AI inference runs on their platforms. Despite being down 12.3% year to date, Nvidia shares now trade at 26.2 times forward earnings, a historically low multiple that creates an attractive entry point for this wide-moat business. The company roadmap includes Blackwell Ultra arriving later this year, followed by Vera Rubin in 2026 and Rubin Ultra in 2027, providing a clear growth trajectory… While several tech giants are investing in custom chips and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is developing competing GPUs, Nvidia's unified hardware and software ecosystem and expansion into new AI domains position it to maintain market leadership for years to come. This combination of technical leadership, ecosystem lock-in, and strategic expansion into emerging areas makes Nvidia an essential infrastructure provider for the entire AI revolution. 2. Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has evolved into a technology powerhouse, with business lines spanning from advertising to cloud computing and AI. Despite being down 12.7% year to date, the search titan's stock trades at just 18.6 times forward earnings, offering compelling value in the ultra-high-growth tech sector. While Google Search remains the primary revenue driver, Alphabet is investing heavily in AI to improve its search capabilities and bolster its competitive positions in cloud computing, agentic AI, and robotics… Though regulatory scrutiny remains a concern regarding its search dominance, the company's diverse capabilities across digital advertising, cloud infrastructure, and AI development position it as a cornerstone technology investment with multiple growth vectors beyond its core search business. So, if you're building an AI-themed portfolio, Alphabet scans as an essential stock to own. 3. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is a leader in cloud infrastructure and AI, driven by its Azure platform and strategic partnership with OpenAI. Following a 7.2% year-to-date decline, the tech giant's shares trade at 26.1 times forward earnings, presenting an attractive entry point into this high-growth sector. Microsoft stock, after all, was trading at over 35 times forward earnings around this time last year… With cloud adoption accelerating and AI integration expanding across its product suite, Microsoft is exceptionally well positioned for sustained growth. As a result, this tech stock represents a core play in both cloud infrastructure and large-scale AI deployment, making it a cornerstone holding for AI investors.” End quotes. -------------------------------------------------------------- One additional article link Title: 10 Pro-Life Companies to Invest In Now on insidermonkey.com. CISOs: The Ultimate Stress Test With Jill Knesek

The CISO role is constantly changing. With all the shifts in cybersecurity, it's crucial to find ways to attract new talent to close the growing skills gap. CISOs now juggle complex systems managed at multiple levels and handle burnout amongst many other responsibilities. Today's guest is Jill Knesek. Jill is the Chief Information Security Officer for Blackline, a company that does financial SaaS solutions. It's based out of the Los Angeles area. She's been there almost three years now as the CISO, running the information security team. She previously served as Chief Security Officer for BT Global Services. She has more than 15 years' experience directing security programs, including service as a special agent for the FBI assigned to the Cyber Crime Squad in Los Angeles Field Office, where she was involved in several high-profile cases, including Kevin Mitnick.  In this episode, we cover the CISO role evolving from low visibility to a C-level position, managing multi-cloud infrastructures and aligning with other teams and the ongoing cybersecurity skills gap and burnout. Jill also talks about incident response and crisis management and collaboration within the cybersecurity community to fill the blind spots and strengthen the defenses. Show Notes: [01:23] She's now the Chief Information Security Officer for Blackline, a company that does financial SaaS solutions. [02:00] She was also an FBI special agent for 3 and 1/2 years working cybercrime. She was super excited, because this was her lifelong dream. [03:35] She loved the FBI, but she knew she could do more for the industry on the private side. [04:21] Jill talks about how the CISO role has evolved. It's now a C-level position. [06:26] Some of the boards were very interested in what was going on with security. There has to be a balance with funding and proving your success. [07:39] Now complexity is an issue.  [09:03] The cloud adds so many connecting services.  [11:45] CISOs are getting more responsibility and need more qualified people in their teams. There's a gap with not enough people coming into the cybersecurity industry. [12:30] How the idea of stress and working nights and weekends can deter some graduates from the cybersecurity industry. [15:15] Boards and executive committees expect the CISO to be right in the middle of things. They want real-time updates and to know what everyone is working on right now. [17:47] The importance of keeping a calm level-headed view when something goes wrong. [21:41] We learn about the flow of straightening out curves or incidents. Learn during the small incidents and practice the process. [23:57] The importance of not scolding the team for being too quick to react. It's better to have a false alarm than to ignore a serious problem. [25:10] Jill does a one-to-one with everyone on her team each quarter. She tries to Mentor them with some of the things that she's learned. [30:29] We hear about a couple of incidents where ransomware got into the environment.  [35:01] When someone else reported that something weird was going on in the network. [38:27] To help with the talent gap, we need to start introducing cybersecurity at the high school level. [42:15] It's important for CISOs to be connected with other groups and events. This episode features an interview with Emily Campbell, CMO at Blackline, a leading provider of cloud software that automates and controls critical accounting processes. In this episode, Emily discusses their shift to lifecycle marketing and her focus on doing fewer things better to drive efficiency. She also dives into her approach to experimentation, and how she's allocating 50% of her budget to experiments as a way to future proof their organization. Key Takeaways:It's important to understand how the customer behaves at each stage of the buying journey and to build lifecycle campaigns accordingly. A connected content strategy that builds on itself is an important component of lifecycle campaigns and streamlines retargeting efforts. Experiments are a way to future-proof the marketing organization, and pushes the team to try new ideas and to take calculated risks. Quote:  “It's probably more like 50 percent of our budget is for experiments this year. I really think about that as an investment in future-proofing our marketing organization. And I want to make sure that the team doesn't get super comfortable in what they're doing. So, I think that innovation really helps push them outside of their comfort zones. But I think we need to be testing new ideas. We need to be taking the, I'll say, calculated risks. We don't want to be throwing money away, but we need to learn what works and what doesn't. And, you know, one of the things that I'm trying to bring to the team is a sense of, we're going to celebrate successes and failures because those failures provide as much learning as the successes, if not more. And so we are very focused on fail fast, learn fast, try more. And, again, still fewer things better, but try new things that we haven't had a lot of experience with in the past.” Episode Timestamps:*(02:27) The Trust Tree: Lifecycle campaigns and understanding customer behavior*(12:11) The Playbook: Relevant content at the top of the funnel*(33:43 ) The Dust Up: Competitors that advertise on your key terms *(35:35) Quick Hits: Emily's Quick HitsSponsor:Pipeline Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com, the #1 Conversational Marketing platform for companies that use Salesforce and the secret weapon for pipeline pros. Twenty-seven years ago, while in his late twenties, Mark Partin arrived inside the C-suite largely unprepared for the flood of challenges that would quickly breach his desk. Or so Partin tells us as he recounts the circumstances surrounding the first of five CFO appointments that have thus far punctuated his finance leadership career.“I can and do love to suffer,” Partin comments, describing the experience as being “over my head” and demanding him to “level up,” or constantly “reach to the next level” to succeed. For Partin, who had been named CFO of a publicly traded company despite his young age and lack of prior CFO experience, success in the role can be attributed to his unique partnership with the CEO. “He allowed me to have that role and the Board did because he was to be my mentor, and he would help me along the way,” explains Partin. Still, there's no question the CEO got something valuable in return, given Partin's “level up” mindset and his willingness to work harder than anyone else. This first CFO role cemented Partin's belief that the CEO–CFO partnership is the most critical relationship in any company. This CEO, whom Partin describes as a “driver,” was dependent on Partin's success, reinforcing how essential trust and collaboration are in shaping any firm's future. This experience influenced Partin's leadership approach in the four CFO appointments that followed, in which he continued to rely on many important and purposeful strategic partnerships. Now, after nearly a decade as CFO of BlackLine, Partin tells us that he still believes that "leveling up" and fostering strong CEO relationships have been key drivers of whatever his success may continue to be, guiding his strategic mindset and pragmatic leadership to this day.

This is part two of our conversation with her, so if you missed the first, Ep. 297: Honoring A Great Love, be sure to listen. In this episode, we talk about the holistic  approach she takes to suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. An approach that focuses on building a world worth living in. A world where youth - and people of any age - have their basic needs met and can access safety, community, and true belonging.  We discuss: Some of the professional roles Canada holds What is different for grief professionals and educators when the topic of suicide arises The changing landscape of suicide prevention & postvention How systems and institutions can create barriers to more humane and effective interventions What we still don't know when it comes to suicide How stigma, shame, and isolation contribute to suicide - and the harm they cause for those left behind Risk factors for youth suicide, especially for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ youth Protective factors like belonging, safety, and community Why cultural & community specific prevention & intervention strategies are necessary What the headlines get wrong about youth suicide The pockets of hope Canada's come across in the field Since 2005 Canada Taylor has worked in behavioral health care serving youth and adults, with a focus in deathcare and helping families navigate grief, loss, and trauma amidst crisis. Relational, restorative, and transformative approaches are key underpinnings to Canada's holistic, integrative philosophy to creating change and healing for all. It might be too early in the Impostrix Podcast journey to deviate from the plan, but it's happening anyway, and in this episode we are talking mental health. Specifically,  Whitney recounts her recent experience with perfectionism, anxiety, and self-care. And a word of warning, Dr. Google is not our friend. Recalling  our conversation in Episode 3 on imposter syndrome and identifying Dr. Valerie Young's five types of imposter syndrome, Whitney finds herself living squarely within "perfectionist" one day, and "super human" the next. A reality experienced by many, and especially by Black women, and a reality that in this case led Whitney to experience persistent physical manifestations of underlying mental stress and anxiety. In hindsight, Whitney sees how her anxiety spiral developed and shares perspective on red flags that were present for her.Grateful for the strong community of support that she has built around her, Whitney called on all of her resources to identify what she was experiencing, to calm her anxieties, and to establish a short term plan of self-care moving forward. Whitney shares how through this experience, she has a better understanding of how anxiety shows up for her and what physical signs of anxiety she experiences. She also walks listeners through her process of exploring and identifying sustainable self-care rituals to alleviate stress and care for her mental wellbeing. It is so important that we, Black and Brown folks, protect their energy. And this means caring for their mental wellbeing, no matter what. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or any other mental illness, please know that you are not alone, nor are you broken, cursed, or being punished.
