With a distincitive country, bluegrass, southern rock-type of sound, the Davisson Brothers are gaining fans all over the world. The guys in the group took advantage of a recent stop in Nashville to ask a couple of special guests to star in their latest music video. We had a chance to check in behind-the-scenes on the set of "Country Just Like Me" to see how it all came together.
Bluegrass Hall of Famer Del McCoury’s folks came from the mountains of western North Carolina, but he grew up on a farm in York County, Pennsylvania, less than an hour’s drive from Baltimore. “My dad and my older brother listened to the Grand Ol’ Opry every Saturday night,” McCoury said. It was before television, in the middle- to late-1940s. “At a young age I heard Earl Scruggs, and that’s what got me into music.” McCoury had already learned a little guitar from his older brother — who had learned it from their mother — when, inspired by Earl Scruggs, he took up banjo. And, thanks to his dad, soon acquired one. “My dad knew a guy who had an old banjo; he didn’t play it, and so he borrowed it from that guy because I kept talking to my dad about getting me one. And he said, ‘I know a guy who’s got one. He don’t even play it.’ And, after a while, that guy started owing him money for something, so we got a banjo out of the deal,” he said. “It wasn’t a good one, but you could play it.”
The International Bluegrass Music Association's annual awards show is always an event to remember. The 23rd annual show was hosted by the legendary Del McCoury and Laurie Lewis at the historic Ryman Auditorium. We caught up with many of the honorees at a reception before the big night.
We have a very special show looking back at some of our most popular features in the last year. Let’s get things revved up with Dierks Bentley on his annual motorcycle ride. The ‘Miles and Music For Kids’ event kicked off in Columbia, Tennessee with a 90-minute motorcycle ride on the way to Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville. Here’s Kelly at the Harley dealership. The fifth annual event raised about 250-thousand dollars, which went to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Multi-platinum country artist Dierks Bentley hosted his fifth annual ‘Miles and Music For Kids’ right here in Middle Tennessee. The first four motorcycle rides brought in over 30-thousand fans and raised 1-point-2 million dollars for children’s hospitals across America, so expectations were high for this year’s ride. Kelly Lynn caught up with Dierks and a few of his friends before the ride kicked off in Columbia, Tennessee. The 90-minute ride ended with a huge concert at Nashville’s Riverfront Park, and included many of Dierks’ friends, like Miranda Lambert, Jerrod Niemann, Del McCoury and more. Together they raised about 250-thousand dollars, which will go to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The annual IBMA Awards show is always a blast! The International Bluegrass Music Association honors the best in the genre every year at the legendary Ryman Auditorium. Kelly Lynn had a chance to catch up with the honorees to talk about the big night.
The International Bluegrass Music Association is getting ready for its 20th Annual Awards showat the Ryman Auditorium October 1st. We had a chance to check out the nominees at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and to see who is up for what.
