Are you trying to figure out how to deal with menopause or curious if you're on the brink of it all? Welp, friends… this one is for you! My special guest today is author Laurie Lewis and she's simplifying how to deal with menopause. No matter if you're at the beginning of it all and you're starting to notice your period is getting irregular. Or your midsection resembles more of a rectangle than an hourglass (um, like me). My all-star special guest today is Laurie Lewis and she's simplifying how to deal with menopause. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: What the first signs of perimenopause and menopause are that you need to be looking out for Your hormones will start to shift in your 40s and 50s… what are the basics you need to know and why working out longer and harder in the gym is NOT the answer to losing weight What intermittent fasting is and why it might be the right solution for those looking to recalibrate their hormones How does intermittent fasting work, is it safe and what the three phases of fasting are: Fast foundation Fast forward Fast forever …and ultimately, how to make sense of all the changes your body is going through without losing your mind along the way. Disclaimer: speak to your primary care physician or doctor first. There is so much mystery and confusion surrounding menopause and what's (actually) happening in our bodies. As Dr. Jen Gunter says, “it's like puberty, but in reverse!” I hope today's conversation sheds some light on this subject that'll help you prepare for menopause, start to recalibrate your hormones, and feel more in control of what your body and brain is needing the most during this stage of your life. Q: Are you ready to learn how to deal with menopause with grace? If yes, this one is for you. In this special two-part series, we're diving into the world of fasting and how it can be a game-changer for women over 40. Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Laurie Lewis—a truly inspiring guest. Laurie is 61, and just six years ago, she was struggling with a 50-pound weight gain that caught her off guard, despite being a fit and healthy eater. Like many women, she experienced this sudden change around menopause, a time when many say traditional weight management methods don't work as well. What drew me to Laurie was her story—she found fasting during this challenging time, and it turned everything around for her. I wanted to get her take and drill down into all things fasting. Laurie was an open book and a great sport, sharing insights that even got me rethinking my own approach to fasting! In this episode, you'll hear Laurie's journey and discover: Why fasting has to feel good, fit your lifestyle, and help you achieve your health goals. The benefits of changing up your eating windows to mimic ancestral eating patterns. How fasting can lead to wanting to improve the quality of your food. Why assessing how you feel (rather than just focusing on the scale) is key. The impact of supplements on fasting. We'll explore the 2-6pm eating window that worked for Laurie, and why many women feel better when they're not constantly eating. Plus, get ready for Part 2, where I'll share my re-initiation into fasting and the results I experienced! Resources From The Show: Visit Laurie at fastforwardwellness.com

I'm digging into my LP collection for some of today's selections – Emerson & Waldron, great band from the late-1960's/early 1970's, and the Johnson Mountain Boys, classic bluegrass from the 1980's. Of course we've got some fine offerings from Rhonda Vincent, the Brombies, Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands, and the Stanley Brothers. Throw in some picking from Brad Kolodner, the HCBB and Eddie Adcock & Don Reno, and you've got a memorable bluegrass concert.

I am 67 and have lived in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Oregon for 42 years. I have three grown children and am blessed to be close to one son, his family, and my daughter. My other son, his wife, and their family are just a short flight away in Nevada. I am also proud of a new, sweet little dog named Hazel. I have been retired from being a paraprofessional at a small K-12 school since 2013, where I worked for 18 years. All of my kids attended this school, too. I fill my time with various activities that I enjoy. Number one is spending time with family. I often see my son and family who live near me and spend time with my busy daughter whenever possible. I travel with my son, who lives nearby, his family, and my daughter to various places in other parts of Oregon. Whenever I visit my son and his family in Nevada, they take me to different points of interest near them. I have a sister who lives in California that I am very close to that, I see twice a year. We love spending time together and getting out in each area where we live to explore the sites. I enjoy getting out in nature when I can and love taking in all the beauty of where I live. I like to knit and read, and listen to audiobooks. Great things to fill the time on a rainy Oregon day. I also love to do video workouts with Get Fit With Rick, a membership platform that I belong to. I've been a part of this group for three years, and he led me to IF. He started an IF challenge with the group and had Laurie Lewis, a fantastic IF coach, on a talk with him. One thing led to another, and I am fasting one year later. After living most of my life on a diet roller coaster, I am very thankful to IF for helping me to be healthy as I age and to be able to maintain my weight. Jalene Weigand has been an intermittent faster since she stumbled upon a Woman's Health Podcast featuring Laurie Lewis in November 2021. She successfully lost all the weight she had gained during her menopausal transition within about a year . She has continued to see many non-scale victories since she reached the maintenance range with her health, fitness, and emotional wellness. Being in maintenance has had some challenges for Jalene, as she's needed to navigate what it means to live her IF lifestyle without having weight loss as her main focus, pivoting towards helping others on their journey, yet maintaining a balance of vigilance without obsession to maintain her weight range. For Intermittent Fasting Coach and Author Laurie Lewis, menopause dealt a crushing blow: brain fog, lack of balance, memory loss, and the sudden gain of 50 pounds. She tried everything she knew to feel better, and the methods that worked in the past made no difference. After struggling for many years, Laurie stumbled upon Intermittent Fasting and started having an Eating Window that same day. The menopausal fog lifted in less than one week. She had more energy and felt more “like herself.” She lost 51 pounds in 15 months and has kept it off for over five years. Now, at 60 years old, Laurie has kept an Eating Window every day for 6.5 years. Through her business, Fast Forward Wellness, she is changing lives through her group classes & 1:1 personal coaching and is recognized globally as a go-to Intermittent Fasting expert. Laurie and I take a look at long term intermittent fasting and challenges that brings. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/graeme-currie/message
