Hello everyone. I hope you are doing well. We are on to the second episode of this fall season, this time with Noelle Garcia. Based in the Chicago area, Noelle is an artist and educator who focuses on themes of identity, family history, and recovered narratives in her work. She is an indigenous artist from the Klamath and Paiute tribes. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Noelle has earned awards and fellowships at various institutions such as the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, the Nevada Arts Council, the Illinois Arts Council, and the American Indian Graduate Center. I had a good time re-listening to our conversation as we discussed how motherhood informed Noelle's beadwork, the ownership of stories, and deciding who to sell one's trauma to. As usual, relax and I hope you enjoy this.Links Mentioned:Noelle's WebsiteNoelle's InstagramEdgar Heap of BirdsTrail of TearsMaternal Perspectives ExhibitionTending Tender ExhibitionCenter For Native Futures and Indigenous ResearchFollow Seeing Color:Seeing Color WebsiteSubscribe on Apple PodcastsFacebookTwitterInstagram

We continue our conversation with Catholic speaker and musician Noelle Garcia to talk about what it means to be a Catholic woman—this time zooming in to our vocations as wives and mothers. There are a lot of strong opinions out there on where women belong... should they work outside the home, what does it mean to be submissive to your husband... and these can be controversial topics! The primary questions we must ask are “What is God's will for our family?” and “How can I serve my family with joy and generosity?” Show Notes: Learn more about Noelle Garcia at mqministries.net and EQSaints.com. You can also find her on social media @noellegarciamusic. You can also listen to the podcast Noelle produces with her husband David, called Somehow I Marriage, on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
In today's culture we hear a lot of people asking, “What is a Woman?” Understanding our identity as men and women seems to be a challenge. But as women of faith, we see an opportunity to take that question even deeper: What is the spiritual impact of being a woman? In today's episode we sit down with Noelle Garcia, a wife & Mom who serves as the Director of Catholic Programs for EQ Saints, to unpack the gift of womanhood and how we as Catholic women can embrace this gift and live it joyfully. "They never told you in marriage preparation that some days, you won't like each other very much." Continuing our series on marriage and family life, Kara is joined by speaker, musician, podcaster, wife and mom, Noelle Garcia! Sharing from the heart and the "realness" of daily life as Catholic wives and moms, Kara and Noelle discuss the hardest and the greatest things about marriage and motherhood. What advice is there for those who struggle with mom guilt (or guilt in general)? How do you handle different parenting styles and different approaches to home life between spouses? What are the biggest challenges and joys of motherhood and how do we approach these and maintain joy? All of these questions are answered in this episode! Trigger Warning: Noelle also shares her testimony of faith in the midst of the grief of a miscarriage. NOTE FROM FRED: "This is by far one of the most beautiful episodes of Draw Near. Although I am not a mother, I found my heart deeply touched, moved and inspired by the discussion. Noelle's testimony, having recently undergone the same trial with my family, was very healing. I encourage all dads, all Catholic men desiring to live the faith and follow Christ, listen to this episode. We have much to learn from our sisters in Christ."
