Have you ever thought about what it would take to have a radio show? Join Jules & Corinna as they connect with John "Jay" Wiley, host and producer of Law Enforcement Today and the Law Enforcement Today Podcast Network. You'll learn how he moved from hosting a podcast that was coupled with a thriving Facebook group to terrestrial radio in his first 10 episodes. What is terrestrial radio, you might ask? You know, spaces you tune in "on the dial" on AM/FM -- and these days some even lump "terrestrial" and "satellite" together in one pot (satellite = Sirius XM). You'll discover how John "Jay" Wiley is even connected to Oprah, and hear his thoughts on what it takes to truly "make it" in broadcast media like podcasting, radio, YouTube and beyond. You'll also get a "tease" of a new podcast that Jules & Corinna are launching on 4/22/22! About Our Guest: Introducing John “Jay” Wiley... His friends call him Jay (and that means you can too). While people like to use terms like radio personality, or broadcaster, he prefers the old school terminology of DJ. Prior to starting his career in radio he was a member of the Baltimore Police Department. As an officer he worked in the Northwest District of Baltimore in Patrol, Operations, and Plainclothes Drug Enforcement Unit. He was detailed to the DEA Task Force in the Baltimore Office for more than a year investigating drug distribution gangs in the Baltimore/Washington area. He was promoted to sergeant at which time he was assigned to the Central District and then the Northwest District. His career in the Baltimore Police Department was cut short by a disastrous line of duty hand injury. Sadly, after multiple surgeries, he was retired, and then successfully pivoted to the world of broadcast / terrestrial radio (and now podcasting). Jay is the host and producer of the Law Enforcement Today Podcast, with new episodes out each Monday. 00:00 Introductions & What to expect in today's episode (including a surprise "tease" or two)08:30 Meet John J. Our Newsmaker guest today is Baltimore City Police Commissioner Michael Harrison. The COVID-19 pandemic has crippled businesses across the city and forced many to close, but it has had no appreciable effect on the number of murders in our city this year, which stands at 294 as of today. Yesterday, the Baltimore Police Department announced the arrests of 14 people who are believed to have been involved in several car-jackings in the Northwest District. And on October 29th, Judge James K. Bredar said in a quarterly hearing about the Consent Decree that, “there now is solid leadership in the Police Department, and there is beginning to flow real and substantial progress in achieving Consent Decree objectives.” This is from the Judge charged with overseeing the implementation of the Consent Decree between the Department of Justice and the Police Department. It is widely seen as a clear message to incoming Mayor Brandon Scott that he should not contemplate changing police commissioners. Mr. Scott has indicated so far that Mr. Harrison’s job is safe, at least for the moment. But the Mayor-elect has indicated that BPD will likely face significant budget cuts. And he campaigned on a promise to re-imagine the city’s approach to public safety. Police Commissioner Michael Harrison joins us on Zoom from his office at Police Department Headquarters in Baltimore…

Gary Voccio retired from his medical practice and began a second career as the director of Northwest District of the Georgia Department of Public Health right before the coronavirus pandemic arrived in Georgia. The doctor was among those credited early on with pushing for the needed tests that confirmed a Polk County woman under examination at Floyd Medical Center would become the first “positive” patient in Northwest Georgia. Since then, Voccio has been among the more public faces in the region when it comes to the virus and what’s next. And late Friday, he issued another community update that demanded and received immediate notice. We know that based on the hits or views or whatever we call them this week on our website. He said: “So, we’re reopening. Even if we do it right, the decision to reopen the state and our Northwest Georgia communities without a treatment or vaccine is a decision to accept more illness and more death for the sake of resurrecting our economy sooner.” Of all the speeches and lectures we’re heard since March 1 from the governor on down, that last paragraph nailed exactly where we are – and exactly why we are here. The only question from it all is whether we’re going to listen to what Voccio had to say. We hope so as we have many more innings to go. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/john-druckenmiller/support

In this episode we talk to Matthew Becker who used to be a minister in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), a conservative denomination of the Lutheran church that does not ordain women. We talk about Matt’s personal growth in the LCMS, how he came to question the more conservative doctrines of the denomination (specifically Creationism and women’s ordination), and the heresy charges and tribunals that he had to go through, which, ultimately, lead him to leave the LCMS all together. Dr. Matthew Becker, M.Div., M.A., Ph.D. was born in Salem, Oregon, in 1962. He attended public schools there and graduated in 1984 from Concordia University, Portland, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the liberal arts. That same year he entered the Master of Divinity program at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. After receiving his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in 1988, he entered a doctoral program in theology at the University of Chicago. While a student in that university, he was privileged to study under such notable theologians as Brian Gerrish, David Tracy (his Doktorvater), and Martin Marty. During that time Dr. Becker also took courses at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. In 1990 he earned a Master of Arts in Religious Studies degree from the University of Chicago. In 1996 he passed his doctoral examinations with the mark of “with distinction.” His dissertation, "The Self-giving God: Trinitarian Historicality and Kenosis in the Theology of Johann von Hofmann (1810-1877)," was completed in the summer of 2001. A revised version of this work was later published as The Self-Giving God and Salvation History: The Trinitarian Theology of Johannes von Hofmann (T&T Clark, 2004). This work examines the theology of one of the most important Lutheran theologians of the nineteenth century. Dr. Becker was ordained into the Lutheran ministry in 1989. Until July 2015 he was a rostered clergyman in the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS). He is currently seeking ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). For five years he was an assistant pastor and later associate pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, West Dundee, Illinois (1989-94). For two of those years he also served as an interim pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Chicago. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Becker has served as the Secretary of the Northwest District of the LCMS (2000-4). Between Oct 2010 and March 2014 he served as the interim pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Michigan City, Indiana. Dr. Becker and his wife, Detra, were married in June 1993. They have a sixteen-year-old son, Jacob. Starting May 2015, he was appointed District Supervisor of the North Pacific District. Here is a glimpse of the quality of a man Gabe is and what he did while in the Northwest. How is it possible for a false teacher on the clergy roster in the Northwest District go without being rebuked by the District President? In today's edition of Table Talk Radio, we have the answer. The Letter: February 23, 2015 Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Northwest District, "...in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us." 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 (ESV) Our God has called us all to be His ambassadors in this world. Our words and actions should all be measured and chosen insofar as they reflect the love of Jesus to each other and to those who don't know Him yet. It is also important for us to present an accurate reflection of who He is and how He relates to us as the objects of His love.
