APRIL 27, 2025 SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER GUEST PREACHER - REV. MICHAEL AIRGOOD ORGANIST JAMES ROSS * Please Stand If Able Prelude – Prelude on Laude Anima – Elizabeth Krouse Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship Leader: The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. People: Lord, save us! Lord, grant us success! Leader: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. From the house of the Lord, we bless you. People: The Lord is God, and he has made his light shine on us. Leader: With boughs in hand, join in the festival procession up to the horns of the altar. People: You are my God and I will praise you! Leader: You are my God, and I will exalt you. All: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. * Opening Hymn – “Christ is Risen” – UMH #307 *Prayer of Confession Our Lord Jesus, We find ourselves in the locked doors of ourselves, just as the disciples were behind closed doors. We too are afraid, perhaps for a different reason than theirs. But we too need the breath of the Holy Spirit to take away our fears so that we can come out from behind these locked doors. Lord, we are like Thomas with our questions and our doubts. We sometimes need to see in order to believe, we need you in order to have faith. We too need the peace you bring because our world is fraught with violence, and unrest. Just as Thomas confessed you are his Lord and his God, we boldly claim you for our lives. We thank you for the blessing you have given us, the ones who believe without seeing. May the doors of our churches be open to all and that doubters be welcomed here. In the name of the risen Lord Jesus, Amen. Children’s Chat Scripture – John 20:24-31 Pastor: The Word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Sermon - “What Grave?” Tithes and Offering Offertory – Prelude on Beach Spring – William Allen Pasch *Doxology – Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow #94 Prayers of the People - Joys and Concerns *Prayer Hymn – “Walk On, O People of God” – UMH #305 Pastoral Prayer & Lord’s Prayer *Closing Hymn – “Crown Him With Many Crowns” - UMH #327 Action Steps and Benediction Postlude – Hail the Festival Day – Daniel Burton Thank you for sharing in this worship service. MARCH 23, 2025 THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT REV. KENDRA BALLIET ORGANIST JAMES ROSS Prelude - T'was in the Moon of Winter-Anna Laura Page (Bells) Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship Leader: Always there is a choice: People: The God of Christ Jesus or those material things for which this world will sell its soul? Leader: We cannot have it both ways. As the prophet Elijah declared long ago: People: How long does it take to make up your mind? If the Lord is God, then follow him. If idols are your gods, then get real and admit. Leader: Our God is greatly to be praised and honored above all worldly gods. People: We will declare our God’s glory among the nations and celebrate God’s love among all created in God’s image. * Opening Hymn – “O God of Every Nation” #435 Opening Prayer God of All, You created us for each other. You set in us a yearning for companionship and an empathy that binds us together, protecting each other and delighting in one another. Yet too often we have broken down our relationships instead of building them up. We have been set against one another with the lie of scarcity. We have built systems and economies that widen the gap of resourcesrather than safeguarding equitable practices. Too many, and growing numbers, are suffering hardships, food insecurity, joblessness. We cannot fathom the proportions of loss and so we look away, sometimes even from the need in our own community. Help us, Healer. Show us our empathy. Forgive our complacence. Move us to move one step at a time toward greater care for one another. In Jesus name. Amen. Children’s Chat Scripture – Matthew 8: 5-13 Pastor: The Word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God Series: Holy Vessels: A Season of Recovery Message: “Safe Keeping” Tithes and Offering Offertory - T'was in the Moon of Winter-A. L. Pastoral Prayer #nightlight #rttbros
When was the last time you pulled up a photo of yourself from years ago and thought about how much drift has happened without you noticing: relationships, age, knowledge, and thatstairs seemed so much easier to climb back then? Drift is part of life but what if the drift is dangerous? Jesus, in John 17, prays for his disciples and for believers with his main concern being their spiritual drift. In what is often called, "The High Priestly Prayer" or "Jesus' Pastoral Prayer", Jesus prays that the Father would protect believers from spiritual drift as we're sent into the world. How? By making them one.
Prelude - Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship Disciples of Christ, today your Savior calls you to come up the mountain and pray. Will you come? We will go wherever Jesus leads us. Will you follow when Christ’s glory overwhelms your senses, and you sit astounded at God’s greatness? We will go wherever Jesus leads us. Will you follow when Jesus won’t let you stay on the mountaintop, insisting that you return to the valley where people are hurting and in need of good news? We will go wherever Jesus leads us. Disciples, come! Let us worship God, whose glory shines on the mountaintop and in the eyes of our neighbors. Come, let us worship God, whose glory shimmers all around us, even now! * Opening Hymn – “He Is Exalted” TFWS#2070 Opening Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, cleanse our lives of all shameful attitudes of mind and heart so that we reveal your glory in and through all we do and say and are. We, like those in Nazareth, gather to hear and receive the Word of God proclaimed among us. To encounter the life-giving message of God’s love redeems us to be bearers of love and freedom in this world. We gather to worship, as is our custom. Children of God, listen. Pay attention. Ready your hearts. God is here. Jesus has come among us. The Spirit brings the Word to life in our midst. Are you ready? We gather to worship, as is our custom. Thanks be to God! Amen. * Opening Hymn – “O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing” #57 Opening Prayer We thank you, O God, for calling us into your church to be your people. “We have gathered, God of grace and wisdom, because we have heard your call. Join Dave as he looks at 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 and An Apostolic Pastoral Prayer: God, Ministry, and the Christian Life.
David Forsyth explores why prayer is the key in James 5:13-20. He examines three prayerful responses Christians should have when facing difficulties: personal prayer in suffering and joy, pastoral prayer for the sick, and pursuing prayer for those straying from truth. Forsyth emphasizes that prayer is the key to connecting with God and demonstrates complete dependence on Him, whether in times of hardship or blessing. ★ Support this podcast ★
PASTORAL PRAYER A Prayer For The Weary #RTTBROS #nightlight Redeeming the Time Brothers podcast Today, I'll be offering a pastoral prayer. I've been observing many of my friends as they go about their days. As a people watcher, I try to notice not just what people do, but also their countenance. Sometimes, my spirit senses their struggles—whether they're feeling down, despondent, depressed, tired, exhausted, or worn out. Lately, I've been picking up on a lot of these emotions as I go about my daily life. It could be a cashier I encounter at Walmart or a teacher I see walking down the school hallway with their head hung low and their spirit sagging. Today, I want to pray for strength for those who are weary in well-doing. You've been doing the right thing, heading in the right direction, and making good choices. But Satan is trying to wear you down, exhaust you, and make you give up and become despondent. Let's pray together now. Mighty Father God, I ask that You be with my friends and family—those dear ones cradled in the palm of Your hand. Let them feel Your love today, Lord. May that love permeate their very spirit, providing a buoyancy that allows them to rise above the daily grind. Help them know that You love and care for them, God. Remind them that Your watchful care has never been absent from their lives. Even when they find themselves going through a testing time and perhaps sense Your silence, remind them that in every test given in schools, the teacher is always quiet. Lord, show us the areas in our lives where we're weak during these testing times. Help us, God, to turn to You and trust in You moment by moment. Help us lean on You and allow Your rod and staff to bring us comfort, guiding us through the valley of the shadow of death. You are the Great Shepherd, God. You laid down Your life for the sheep and battle back against the wolves baying at the door. I thank You for shepherding us through this old, sinful, sin-cursed world. God, please give my friends and family strength for their day. Give them strong shoes for their stony path. Allow them to experience Your healing, restorative presence moment by moment. We ask this in Jesus' most holy, precious, and powerful name. Amen. Hey, God bless you. I love you, but Jesus loves you so much more. Have a great night.

1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 (NASB) 11 Now may our God and Father Himself and Jesus our Lord direct our way to you; 12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you; 13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. Four questions to ask yourselves regarding your prayer lives:1) Do you pray?2) If and when you do pray, who are you praying to?3) When you're praying for others, what makes up most of your prayer requests?4) To what end do you make those requests? Three elements if a pastoral prayer which informs how the church ought to pray for each other:1) Its address (3:11a)2) Its request (3:11b-12)3) Its purpose (3:13)
In this sermon, Pastor Mike Burnette reflects on sharing the message of Jesus and evaluating one's reputation in relation to love for God and others. He emphasizes the importance of wisdom over mere knowledge in handling life's challenges and encourages growth in understanding God's power and inheritance for believers. Through Paul's Pastoral prayer, we are urged to seek a deeper knowledge of God and to pray for a greater awareness of His limitless power, fostering a transformative faith beyond mere needs.

FROM THE VAULTS! This episode was recorded at the end of 2023. Better late than never!I was like a fly on the wall to the weekly Pastoral Prayer and Care Meeting where the Pastor and two Pastoral Assistants, Matt and Stephen, conduct a Lord's Day Service review, pray for each other and the church, and plan ahead for ministry.Little did we know how much on the verge of WW3 2024 would be! Regardless of the chaos, however, I was encouraged to hear how committed to faithfully proclaiming God's Word these men were. Among the topics we scratched the surface of were:* Confessionalism* Seminary* Church Life* Egalitarianism* Christendom* Christian Nationalism* Moscow Mood* Political Theology* Reformed 2K* A Republic if you can keep it* Two Tables of the Law* The Church's Purpose* Discerning the Times* and more!I greatly appreciate the wide range of issues that are on their pastoral radar and the desire to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. These gifted brethren bleed Bibline!

PASTORAL PRAYER FOR PEACE #nightlight #RTTBROS God, it's tough right now. People are hurting, stressed, scared. They feel lost, overwhelmed, like burdens are crushing them. We see it, feel it, and wish we could fix it. But we can't. What we can do is lift them up to you. You understand pain better than anyone. You offer a peace that makes no sense - a calm in the middle of the storm. Give them that peace, God. Not the kind that ignores the mess, but the kind that whispers, "You're not alone. I'm here." Remind them they're loved, even when it feels dark. Show them glimpses of hope in the little things - a sunrise, a kind word, a warm hug. Give them strength to keep going, courage to face what's next, and faith that there's still good ahead. Their hearts are hurting, God. Mend them with your grace. Fill them with that peace that's hard to explain, the peace that carries them through anything. We pray for the broken, the scared, the burdened. Hold them close, God. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. Welcome to The On Preaching Podcast, the podcast dedicated to helping you preach faithfully, clearly, and better. In this episode, H.B. discusses the priority of and the preparation for the pastoral prayer. The Pastoral prayer should be simple, direct, God-centered, scriptural, corporate, and spiritually focused. The A-C-T-S outline (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, & supplication) serves as a good model for structuring your pastoral prayer. As you make supplications, you should pray for the government, the gospel, the lost, the church, and the afflicted. For more information and resources, visit hbcharlesjr.com.

Pastoral Prayer for Conflict in Gaza Speaker: Tim Fritson
The following sermon was chosen as a 'staff-pick' on SermonAudio: Title: The Importance of Pastoral Prayer and an Overview of the Lord's Prayer Subtitle: Prayer Talk Speaker: Dr. Alan Cairns Broadcaster: Faith Free Presbyterian Church Event: Prayer Meeting Date: 3/6/2002 Bible: Luke 11 Length: 34 min.
In this passage we get a window not only into the heart of a pastor, but the prayer of a pastor for a congregation that he loves. 1. Paul first shares that he gives thanks to God for the Philippians and for their partnership with Him in the gospel. 2. Then, Paul reminds them of God's faithfulness to believers to finish what He begins. This helps them (and us) endure in gospel ministry (which is very hard). 3. Lastly, Paul prays specifically that God would help them progress in the faith to the glory and praise of God.
