Expository Reading and Pastoral Prayer - Psalm 78:65-72
Stone United Methodist Church December 7, 2025 Second Sunday of Advent REV. KENDRA BALLIET ORGANIST JIM ROSS * Please Stand If Able Prelude - Choral Prelude on "Of The Fathers Love Begotten" -John Blackburn Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship PASTOR: As we prepare to go into the world, let us ask and answer the question we came with. PEOPLE: What child IS this? PASTOR: This is the one born in a time when too many were silenced. PEOPLE: What child IS this? PASTOR: This is the one whose voice would ring out, reminding all that peace does not come through violence. PEOPLE: What child IS this? PASTOR: This, this is the “Prince of Peace” who shows us the kin-dom in which all have a voice, and no one is afraid. * Opening Hymn – “Star Child” #2095 Lighting of the Second Advent Candle Why lies He in such mean estate, Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear: for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. Reader 1: The poet of our theme carol, “What Child is This,” penned the phrase “the silent Word is pleading.” Our vision of the child in the manger may be the soothing lullaby and the silent night, but the reality of babies, and of that time in history, is that of a “crying out.” Reader 2: It was a time when many were silenced, and the need for prophesying justice in the midst of trauma was great. Zechariah does this when his silence is lifted. The Word became Flesh for such a time. Reader 1: We light this candle of Peace for those who need it most. (Light the First and Second Purple Candles.) Reader 2: For all who are being silenced. Reader 1: For all who are afraid to speak out. Reader 2: For all who know that peace comes with justice. Reader 1: Our question for today at the scene of the nativity is this: “How will we cry out for true peace for ALL people? How will we soothe the trauma of the world in our time?” Reader 2: What child IS this? This, this, is the Prince of Peace who invites us to proclaim his reign forever. This, this is Christ, the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary! Opening Prayer Here, at the nativity of your birth, give us the courage to face this moment with new air in our lungs. Open us to new understandings of the unfolding story of your presence among us. Show us the true meaning of peace on earth, goodwill for all. We pray in the name of the Child, the Prince of Peace in our hearts and lives. Amen. Children’s Chat Scripture- Luke 1:5-25 Pastor: The Word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God Series: “What Child IS This: Beyond the Lullaby” Message: “The Silent Word” Tithes and Offering Offertory - Lenten Lullaby – George Blake *Doxology – Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow #94 Prayer Hymn – “Prepare the Way of the Lord” #207 Prayers of the People - Joys and Concerns Pastoral Prayer & Lord’s Prayer Communion *Closing Hymn – “Let There Be Peace on Earth” #431 Action Steps and Benediction Postlude – Noel – Willard Irving Nevins

Expository Reading & Pastoral Prayer - Psalm 78:54-64 - Pastor Kurt M. Smith - 11/30/25
James ends his letter by calling the church to care for one another through prayer. Whether people are suffering, cheerful, sick, or wandering, each needs the church's support. Prayers for the hurting, praise from the joyful, care and intercession for the sick, and loving pursuit of those who stray. James shows a pastor's heart for the whole church and invites every believer to share that same concern, trusting that God hears and works through our prayers.

This conversation was the second part of a discussion where the pastors explained the reasoning behind the structure of their corporate worship service. They began by discussing the introduction of the Pastoral Prayer, detailing its purpose and structure. The conversation then moved to the sermon, covering topics such as its ideal length, the practice of standing for the reading of scripture, and the importance of preaching the gospel every week. They also explained why they do not practice traditional altar calls, citing concerns about manipulation and false assurance. The discussion concluded by covering the final elements of their service: communion, the closing song, and the final commissioning or benediction, explaining the theological and practical reasons for how each is conducted. OCTOBER 5, 2025 WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY REV. KENDRA BALLIET ORGANIST JIM ROSS Prelude - Canticle-Gilbert Martin Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship PASTOR: The world is changing. We see it everywhere. We feel it in our bones. It seems to happen so much faster now than it used to. PEOPLE: The world is changing. PASTOR: And also, the world needs to change. Children are hungry. Systems are unjust. People are afraid. There are people on the streets who won’t make it a day longer. PEOPLE: The world needs to change. PASTOR: It is God’s desire that the world would change and become more like a holy commonwealth of just peace in which all have what they need. PEOPLE: And we are the changemakers. PASTOR: We are called to work alongside the Holy Spirit. We are called to follow the way of Jesus. PEOPLE: May we be changed by this time of worship! * Opening Hymn – “The Servant Song” TFWS#2222 *Apostles’ Creed #881 *Glory Be to the Father #70 ** Prayer of Confession Holy One, you are the beginning of all things. You are older than time itself. But we’re the ones who have a problem with change. We like things to stay the way they are. Or even better, we’d like things to go back to the way they were before. And so we get in the way when you are trying to do a new thing. We find change to be scary, and so when things need to change, we often don’t show up. Forgive us. Forgive us for when we ignore the people who need change the most. Forgive us for when we resist your holy transformation. Forgive us for when we, ourselves, refuse to change. Change us again. Remake us now to be more like your son Jesus. Open our hearts to all that you would have us change in this world. Amen. Silently Confess Your Sins Hear this assurance of Good News: the scriptures use this phrase many times: “And Jesus had compassion on them…” This is not just a story from long ago. It is true today. Jesus has compassion for us, for all that holds us back, for all that frightens us, for all that we have failed to do. This is the beginning of being a Changemaker–to know and believe in the compassion of Jesus, to accept this forgiveness, and to move toward greater compassion and forgiveness of others in our own lives. We have everything we need. Children’s Chat Scripture- Luke 10:25-37 (CEB) Pastor: The Word of God for the people of God. Pastor: When the voices on the side of the road tempt us with their misinformation full of unearned certainty, simple solutions, and quickness to blame and shame those who disagree with them, remember: People: Stay the course. God, who made us alive, is our Wisdom and Judge. Pastor: When those in power place barriers in our way, making it harder to share the love of God in our communities, trying to convince us it is easier to do nothing than remain firm in God’s call to act for the flourishing of all our neighbors, remember: People: Do not be afraid. God, who made us alive, is our Strength and our Advocate. Pastor: Children of God, come! Let us worship God, whose persistent love empowers us to persevere, to stay the course, to live by faith and not fear. People: Come, let us worship God, who makes us alive, through grace to love and serve God and one another. * Opening Hymn – “Blessed Assurance” #369 *Prayer of Intercession Just God, we sense your anger at the injustice that thrives in the world. We share your grief at the discord that rages among your children, the rejection of those who bear your image, and the oppression of those you know by name. We turn toward you for strength and guidance to turn away from the norms of this world, the lure of self-righteousness, and the appeal of comfort over justice. Embolden us to believe that another world is possible and empower us to participate in its creation. Amen. *Apostles Creed #881 *Glory Be to the Father #70 Children’s Chat Scripture – Colossians 2:6-19 Pastor: The Word of God for the people of God. Expository Reading and Pastoral Prayer
Pastoral Prayer #nightlight #rttbros
When was the last time you pulled up a photo of yourself from years ago and thought about how much drift has happened without you noticing: relationships, age, knowledge, and thatstairs seemed so much easier to climb back then? Drift is part of life but what if the drift is dangerous? Jesus, in John 17, prays for his disciples and for believers with his main concern being their spiritual drift. In what is often called, "The High Priestly Prayer" or "Jesus' Pastoral Prayer", Jesus prays that the Father would protect believers from spiritual drift as we're sent into the world. How? By making them one.
Kevin Anderson speaks from 1 Thessalonians 3 on the importance of prayer for deeper dependence, increasing love, and present sanctification and future glorification.
Join Dave as he looks at 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 and An Apostolic Pastoral Prayer: God, Ministry, and the Christian Life.
David Forsyth explores why prayer is the key in James 5:13-20. He examines three prayerful responses Christians should have when facing difficulties: personal prayer in suffering and joy, pastoral prayer for the sick, and pursuing prayer for those straying from truth. Forsyth emphasizes that prayer is the key to connecting with God and demonstrates complete dependence on Him, whether in times of hardship or blessing. ★ Support this podcast ★
PASTORAL PRAYER A Prayer For The Weary #RTTBROS #nightlight Redeeming the Time Brothers podcast Today, I'll be offering a pastoral prayer. I've been observing many of my friends as they go about their days. As a people watcher, I try to notice not just what people do, but also their countenance. Sometimes, my spirit senses their struggles—whether they're feeling down, despondent, depressed, tired, exhausted, or worn out. Lately, I've been picking up on a lot of these emotions as I go about my daily life. It could be a cashier I encounter at Walmart or a teacher I see walking down the school hallway with their head hung low and their spirit sagging. Today, I want to pray for strength for those who are weary in well-doing. You've been doing the right thing, heading in the right direction, and making good choices. But Satan is trying to wear you down, exhaust you, and make you give up and become despondent. Let's pray together now. Mighty Father God, I ask that You be with my friends and family—those dear ones cradled in the palm of Your hand. Let them feel Your love today, Lord. May that love permeate their very spirit, providing a buoyancy that allows them to rise above the daily grind. Help them know that You love and care for them, God. Remind them that Your watchful care has never been absent from their lives. Even when they find themselves going through a testing time and perhaps sense Your silence, remind them that in every test given in schools, the teacher is always quiet. Lord, show us the areas in our lives where we're weak during these testing times. Help us, God, to turn to You and trust in You moment by moment. Help us lean on You and allow Your rod and staff to bring us comfort, guiding us through the valley of the shadow of death. You are the Great Shepherd, God. You laid down Your life for the sheep and battle back against the wolves baying at the door. I thank You for shepherding us through this old, sinful, sin-cursed world. God, please give my friends and family strength for their day. Give them strong shoes for their stony path. Allow them to experience Your healing, restorative presence moment by moment. We ask this in Jesus' most holy, precious, and powerful name. Amen. Hey, God bless you. I love you, but Jesus loves you so much more. Have a great night.

Pastoral Prayer #rttbros #nightlight
In this sermon, Pastor Mike Burnette reflects on sharing the message of Jesus and evaluating one's reputation in relation to love for God and others. He emphasizes the importance of wisdom over mere knowledge in handling life's challenges and encourages growth in understanding God's power and inheritance for believers. Through Paul's Pastoral prayer, we are urged to seek a deeper knowledge of God and to pray for a greater awareness of His limitless power, fostering a transformative faith beyond mere needs.
Message from John (Phud) Chambers on Apr 21, 2024
FROM THE VAULTS! This episode was recorded at the end of 2023. Better late than never!I was like a fly on the wall to the weekly Pastoral Prayer and Care Meeting where the Pastor and two Pastoral Assistants, Matt and Stephen, conduct a Lord's Day Service review, pray for each other and the church, and plan ahead for ministry.Little did we know how much on the verge of WW3 2024 would be! Regardless of the chaos, however, I was encouraged to hear how committed to faithfully proclaiming God's Word these men were. Among the topics we scratched the surface of were:* Confessionalism* Seminary* Church Life* Egalitarianism* Christendom* Christian Nationalism* Moscow Mood* Political Theology* Reformed 2K* A Republic if you can keep it* Two Tables of the Law* The Church's Purpose* Discerning the Times* and more!I greatly appreciate the wide range of issues that are on their pastoral radar and the desire to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. These gifted brethren bleed Bibline!
Pastoral Prayer March 2024 #RTTBROS #Nightlight
Welcome to The On Preaching Podcast, the podcast dedicated to helping you preach faithfully, clearly, and better. In this episode, H.B. discusses the priority of and the preparation for the pastoral prayer. The Pastoral prayer should be simple, direct, God-centered, scriptural, corporate, and spiritually focused. The A-C-T-S outline (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, & supplication) serves as a good model for structuring your pastoral prayer. As you make supplications, you should pray for the government, the gospel, the lost, the church, and the afflicted. For more information and resources, visit hbcharlesjr.com.
