A bit of exciting weather talk. Spiritual conversations with (some other) friends. Making goals by going back to basics. Accepting what is. Some good berries. A full technology rundown of all the most up to date things that we happen to have seen randomly... And then we get down to the meat of the thing which may involve me changing tenses... This is kind of a big deal episode for me, which will eventually become obvious once we stop mumbling about anything but the point. I'm still not entirely certain I'm in a place to share some of the information that is shared here. Suffice to say, I want to reiterate what we say in the episode which is that this is an entirely experiential description of the last few months of my life and not in any way based on expertise or theology. It is highly likely that my take on some of this stuff is going to be very different in the future but I hope that this will act as a snapshot of someone on the start of a much bigger journey. If it's interesting or useful to anyone then that is great, if not, that is also great. Thank you for listening.

What if the hardest thing about following Jesus isn't doing more—but learning to receive? In this episode, we sit down with author David Gregory to explore the mystery of grace and what it really means to live out of our union with Christ. David shares his journey from striving to be a “good Christian” to discovering the freedom of Christ living through him. Together, we unpack why receiving God's love can feel harder than earning it, how pride and control block our ability to trust, and why childlike faith is at the heart of the gospel. We also dive into how this message could transform the church today and the beauty of walking by faith instead of performance. If you've ever wondered why grace feels simple—but not easy—this conversation will meet you right where you are.Support the show

What happens when “biblical parenting” becomes more about control than compassion? In this episode, I talk with Kelsey McGinnis and Marissa Burt, authors of The Myth of Good Christian Parenting, about the rise of evangelical parenting culture, from James Dobson and Bill Gothard to today's influencer economy, and how these ideas have shaped generations of families. Together, we explore how fear and hierarchy took root in the church's imagination, why so many parents feel trapped by formulas and shame, and what it might look like to recover freedom, grace, and mutuality in our homes. This is a conversation about rethinking authority, rediscovering gentleness, and learning to see our children as people to love, not projects to manage.Marissa Franks Burt (MTh, Columbia International University) is a novelist, editor, teacher, and cohost of the At Home with the Lectionary podcast. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, King James Version)Is that verse a promise or an observation? For over half a century now, Christian parenting books have been banking on (and banking from) it being the former. In their own book (The Myth of Good Christian Parenting), Marissa Franks Burt & Kelsey Kramer McGinnis raise the question anew, and ask us to do the same. This was a hard conversation for me, in many respects. Not because the authors of the book were anything short of pleasant, and not because their work is anything less than well-executed, but because engaging with it caused me to look pretty deep inside & question some of my own presuppositions & unexamined feelings about the parent-child relationship.Maybe I'll be alone in that. Maybe not.Below you'll find bios for both authors, links to follow them online, and opportunities to order the book (which launches in Canada on October 14th, 2025). Pre-Order a copy of The Myth of Good Christian Parenting: How False Promises Betrayed a Generation of Evangelical Families: https://amzn.to/45wKDHn✖️✖️✖️Christian parents want to raise godly children, but what happens when popular biblical parenting methods cause more harm than good? The Myth of Good Christian Parenting exposes how the Christian parenting industry has sold families false promises for five decades, leaving a trail of religious trauma, damaged relationships, and lost faith in its wake. This groundbreaking analysis offers● historical analysis - traces the development of the Christian parenting industry and its influential figures who built parenting empires;● research-based insights - features survey data from adult children and parents affected by authoritarian parenting methods;● theological examination - analyzes how popular teachings on authority, compliance, corporal punishment, and control diverge from Jesus's teachings; and● encouragement for a better future - equips readers to pursue a new path of freedom and mutual respect within their families.Marissa Franks Burt and Kelsey Kramer McGinnis combine rigorous research with compelling storytelling to reveal how evangelical parenting culture has shaped--and often strained--families from the 1970s to today. Drawing on history, sociology, theology, and extensive survey responses from adult children and parents, they trace the rise of Christian parenting empires that idealize obedient children and perfect households while leaving real families feeling inadequate. They also examine the lasting damage caused by popular Christian parenting teachings--including loss of faith, estrangement, religious trauma, and deep regret for older parents--and provide hope for healing.Whether you're a Christian parent questioning traditional methods, an adult recovering from a strict religious upbringing, or a church leader seeking healthier family ministry approaches, this book equips you to pursue mutual respect, emotional safety, and authentic faith within your family relationships.✖️✖️✖️Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys✖️✖️✖️If you or someone you know has experienced abuse, visit courage365.org/need-help✖️✖️✖️CONNECT WITH THE SHOW:preacherboyspodcast.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoyshttps://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/https://twitter.com/preacherboysdochttps://www.instagram.com/preacherboyspodhttps://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspodTo connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/✖️✖️✖️The content presented in this video is for informational and educational purposes only. We have all heard the statement: “Practice Makes Perfect.” I don't know about you, but I never really liked hearing this statement. The reason I didn't like it was because it usually meant I had to work harder and put more effort into becoming better. This statement has become so common that many times we just dismiss it. However, if we put our pride aside, there is great truth to these words. Let's put ourselves aside for a minute and really consider these words. We all know that practicing is going to make us better. But why is it so...Article Link

For so many women of faith, the desire to honor God in love and marriage runs deep—especially when the faith you hold so dear starts to feel at odds with the reality you're living. When unhealthy theology is taught in the name of God, it becomes hard to separate what's true from what's been twisted. You start to question:Is suffering a part of being faithful? Is silence really strength? Is staying—no matter the cost—what God actually wants?Does submission mean self-abandonment?Am I supposed to endure everything? The truth is, many of us weren't taught faith—we were taught fear, perfectionism, and performance... and told it was God.In this powerful episode, I sit down with licensed therapist and creator of Trauma Languages™, Vernique Esther, to talk about how faith and trauma can quietly collide—and how so many high-achieving women of faith have been left silently hurting under the weight of spiritual distortion. We dive into:What it really means to be hyper-religiousHow trauma hides behind performance and spiritual languageHow distorted theology has shaped the way women love, suffer, and stayThe seven ways trauma shows up in relationshipsAnd how to begin setting the atmosphere for the kind of relationship you truly desireFollow Vernique on Instagram: @verniqueestherVernique Website: https://www.verniqueesther.com/

Where Are the “Good Christian” Characters? Too often, the broader culture portrays Christians as narrow-minded hypocrites. We can all imagine plenty of explanations for this. But that leads to a more fundamental question. Why is it so hard to create a character who is both: (1) well-developed and compelling, and (2) a sincere Christian? On this roundtable, the hosts discuss why it's so difficult to create a “Good Christian” character. They also offer their candidates for best Christian characters in fiction. And in case you're wondering—yes, Matt dresses up as his favorite Christian character from pop culture. So stay tuned for the big reveal, neighborinos!
