22 And it was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem: and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch.Et ambulabat Jesus in templo, in porticu Salomonis. 24 The Jews therefore came round about him, and said to him: How long dost thou hold our souls in suspense? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.Circumdederunt ergo eum Judaei, et dicebant ei : Quousque animam nostram tollis? si tu es Christus, dic nobis palam. 25 Jesus answered them: I speak to you, and you believe not: the works that I do in the name of my Father, they give testimony of me.Respondit eis Jesus : Loquor vobis, et non creditis : opera quae ego facio in nomine Patris mei, haec testimonium perhibent de me : 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep.sed vos non creditis, quia non estis ex ovibus meis. 27 My sheep hear my voice: and I know them, and they follow me.Oves meae vocem meam audiunt, et ego cognosco eas, et sequuntur me : 28 And I give them life everlasting; and they shall not perish for ever, and no man shall pluck them out of my hand.et ego vitam aeternam do eis, et non peribunt in aeternum, et non rapiet eas quisquam de manu mea. 29 That which my Father hath given me, is greater than all: and no one can snatch them out of the hand of my Father. 30 I and the Father are one.Ego et Pater unum sumus. 31 The Jews then took up stones to stone him.Sustulerunt ergo lapides Judaei, ut lapidarent eum. 32 Jesus answered them: Many good works I have shewed you from my Father; for which of these works do you stone me?Respondit eis Jesus : Multa bona opera ostendi vobis ex Patre meo : propter quod eorum opus me lapidatis? 33 The Jews answered him: For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, maketh thyself God.Responderunt ei Judaei : De bono opere non lapidamus te, sed de blasphemia; et quia tu homo cum sis, facis teipsum Deum. 34 Jesus answered them: Is it not written in your law: I said you are gods?Respondit eis Jesus : Nonne scriptum est in lege vestra, Quia ego dixi : Dii estis? 35 If he called them gods, to whom the word of God was spoken, and the scripture cannot be broken;Si illos dixit deos, ad quos sermo Dei factus est, et non potest solvi Scriptura : 36 Do you say of him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world: Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God?quem Pater sanctificavit, et misit in mundum vos dicitis : Quia blasphemas, quia dixi : Filius Dei sum? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though you will not believe me, believe the works: that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.
25 At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.In illo tempore respondens Jesus dixit : Confiteor tibi, Pater, Domine caeli et terrae, quia abscondisti haec a sapientibus, et prudentibus, et revelasti ea parvulis. 26 Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.Ita Pater : quoniam sic fuit placitum ante te. 27 All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. 29 Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.Tollite jugum meum super vos, et discite a me, quia mitis sum, et humilis corde : et invenietis requiem animabus vestris. 30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.Jugum enim meum suave est, et onus meum leveMatthias, one of the seventy-two disciples of Jesus, was chosen as Apostle in the place of Judas. Jesus appeared to her in numerous visions, displaying to her His Sacred Heart, sometimes burning as a furnace, and sometimes torn and bleeding on account of the coldness and sins of men. In 1675 the great revelation was made to her that she, in union with Father de la Columbiere, SJ, was to be the chief instrument for instituting the Feast of the Sacred Heart and for spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart throughout the world. She died on October 17th, A.D. 1690.

The Seraphic Patriarch of Assisi was a man especially raised up by God in the Middle Ages with a mission to reconvert the world to Christ. Francis was born in a stable, and heralded into the world by angelic song; he commenced his work with twelve followers, whom he sent two by two to preach the Gospel. He espoused most high Poverty, and received in his own body the marks of the Sacred Passion on Mount Alvernia. Francis' message of charity, peace and justice was heard by men and women of every grade of society, and thousands in consequence desired to leave and follow Francis in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Therefore he founded the Order of Friars Minor, the Second Order or the Poor Clares, and the Tertiaries or Third Order, which will bear his name. St Francis died about sunset on Saturday, 3d October 1226.

3:01 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was made nothing that was made: in Him was life, and the life was the Light of men; and the Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the Light, that all men might believe through him. He was not the Light, but was to give testimony of the Light. That was the true Light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, He gave them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in His Name, who are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. AND THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us: and we saw His glory, the glory as it were of the Only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

12 This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you. 15 I will not now call you servants: for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth. But I have called you friends: because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you.Jam non dicam vos servos : quia servus nescit quid faciat dominus ejus. Vos autem dixi amicos : quia omnia quaecumque audivi a Patre meo, nota feci vobis. 16 You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you; and have appointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; and your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
28 And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.Vestri autem capilli capitis omnes numerati sunt. 31 Fear not therefore: better are you than many sparrows.Nolite ergo timere : multis passeribus meliores estis vos. 32 Every one therefore that shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven.Omnis ergo qui confitebitur me coram hominibus, confitebor et ego eum coram Patre meo, qui in caelis est. 33 But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. He was a disciple of St Polycarp of Smyrna, wrote much against heretics, succeeded St Pothinus in the See of Lyons and died during the persecution of Septimus Severus A.D. 202.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father, who hath sent me, draw him; and I will raise him up in the last day.nemo potest venire ad me, nisi Pater, qui misit me, traxerit eum; et ego resuscitabo eum in novissimo die. 45 It is written in the prophets: And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard of the Father, and hath learned, cometh to me.Est scriptum in prophetis : Et erunt omnes docibiles Dei. Omnis qui audivit a Patre, et didicit, venit ad me. 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father; but he who is of God, he hath seen the Father.Non quia Patrem vidit quisquam, nisi is, qui est a Deo, hic vidit Patrem. 47 Amen, amen I say unto you: He that believeth in me, hath everlasting life.Amen, amen dico vobis : qui credit in me, habet vitam aeternam. 48 I am the bread of life.Ego sum panis vitae. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven; that if any man eat of it, he may not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world.

You believe in God, believe also in me.Non turbetur cor vestrum. Creditis in Deum, et in me credite. 2 In my Father's house there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you: because I go to prepare a place for you.In domo Patris mei mansiones multae sunt; si quominus dixissem vobis : quia vado parare vobis locum. 3 And if I shall go, and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will take you to myself; that where I am, you also may be.Et si abiero, et praeparavero vobis locum, iterum venio, et accipiam vos ad meipsum : ut ubi sum ego, et vos sitis. 4 And whither I go you know, and the way you know.Et quo ego vado scitis, et viam scitis. 5 Thomas saith to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.Dicit ei Jesus : Ego sum via, et veritas, et vita. Nemo venit ad Patrem, nisi per me. 7 If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him, and you have seen him. 8 Philip saith to him: Lord, shew us the Father, and it is enough for us.Dicit ei Philippus : Domine, ostende nobis Patrem, et sufficit nobis. 9 Jesus saith to him: Have I been so long a time with you; and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou, shew us the Father?Dicit ei Jesus : Tanto tempore vobiscum sum, et non cognovistis me? Philippe, qui videt me, videt et Patrem. Quomodo tu dicis : Ostende nobis Patrem? 10 Do you not believe, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not of myself. But the Father who abideth in me, he doth the works. Pater autem in me manens, ipse fecit opera. 11 Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?Non creditis quia ego in Patre, et Pater in me est? 12 Otherwise believe for the very works' sake. Amen, amen I say to you, he that believeth in me, the works that I do, he also shall do; and greater than these shall he do.alioquin propter opera ipsa credite. 13 Because I go to the Father: and whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do: that the Father may be glorified in the Son.Quia ego ad Patrem vado: et quodcumque petieritis Patrem in nomine meo, hoc faciam : ut glorificetur Pater in Filio. 14 If you shall ask me any thing in my name, that I will do.Si quid petieritis me in nomine meo, hoc faciam. 15 If you love me, keep my commandments.Si diligitis me, mandata mea servate : 16 And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever.et ego rogabo Patrem, et alium Paraclitum dabit vobis, ut maneat vobiscum in aeternum, 17 The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him: but you shall know him; because he shall abide with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you.Non relinquam vos orphanos : veniam ad vos. 19 Yet a little while: and the world seeth me no more. But you see me: because I live, and you shall live.Adhuc modicum, et mundus me jam non videt. Vos autem videtis me : quia ego vivo, et vos vivetis. 20 In that day you shall know, that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.In illo die vos cognoscetis quia ego sum in Patre meo, et vos in me, et ego in vobis. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them; he it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith to him, not the Iscariot: Lord, how is it, that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? 23 Jesus answered, and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him.Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei : Si quis diligit me, sermonem meum servabit, et Pater meus diliget eum, et ad eum veniemus, et mansionem apud eum faciemus; 24 He that loveth me not, keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard, is not mine; but the Father's who sent me.qui non diligit me, sermones meos non servat. 25 These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you.Haec locutus sum vobis apud vos manens. 26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.Paraclitus autem Spiritus Sanctus, quem mittet Pater in nomine meo, ille vos docebit omnia, et suggeret vobis omnia quaecumque dixero vobis. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.Pacem relinquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis : non quomodo mundus dat, ego do vobis. Non turbetur cor vestrum, neque formidet. 28 You have heard that I said to you: I go away, and I come unto you. If you loved me, you would indeed be glad, because I go to the Father: for the Father is greater than I.Audistis quia ego dixi vobis : Vado, et venio ad vos. Si diligeretis me, gauderetis utique, quia vado ad Patrem : quia Pater major me est. 29 And now I have told you before it comes to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe. 30 I will not now speak many things with you. For the prince of this world cometh, and in me he hath not any thing. 31 But that the world may know, that I love the Father: and as the Father hath given me commandment, so do I: Arise, let us go hence. Surgite, eamus hinc.
26 But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me.Cum autem venerit Paraclitus, quem ego mittam vobis a Patre, Spiritum veritatis, qui a Patre procedit, ille testimonium perhibebit de me; 27 And you shall give testimony, because you are with me from the beginning.et vos testimonium perhibebitis, quia ab initio mecum estis. 1 These things have I spoken to you, that you may not be scandalized.Haec locutus sum vobis, ut non scandalizemini. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth a service to God.Absque synagogis facient vos : sed venit hora, ut omnis qui interficit vos arbitretur obsequium se praestare Deo. 3 And these things will they do to you; because they have not known the Father, nor me.Et haec facient vobis, quia non noverunt Patrem, neque me. 4 But these things I have told you, that when the hour shall come, you may remember that I told you of them.
Let not your heart be troubled. St Philip, like Peter and Andrew, was of Bethsaida. He was crucified in Phyrgia where he preached the Gospel A.D. 87. St James the Less, was of Cana and a kinsman of our Lord. He wrote one of the Epistles of the New Testament. He was thrown from the terrace of the temple A.D. 93.
And in that day you shall not ask me any thing. Amen, amen I say to you: if you ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give it you.Et in illo die me non rogabitis quidquam. Amen, amen dico vobis : si quid petieritis Patrem in nomine meo, dabit vobis. 24 Hitherto you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive; that your joy may be full. 25 These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh, when I will no more speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father.Haec in proverbiis locutus sum vobis. Venit hora cum jam non in proverbiis loquar vobis, sed palam de Patre annuntiabo vobis : 26 In that day you shall ask in my name; and I say not to you, that I will ask the Father for you:in illo die in nomine meo petetis : et non dico vobis quia ego rogabo Patrem de vobis : 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.ipse enim Pater amat vos, quia vos me amastis, et credidistis, quia ego a Deo exivi. 28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and I go to the Father. 29 His disciples say to him: Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no proverb.Dicunt ei discipuli ejus : Ecce nunc palam loqueris, et proverbium nullum dicis : 30 Now we know that thou knowest all things, and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.nunc scimus quia scis omnia, et non opus est tibi ut quis te interroget : in hoc credimus quia a Deo existi.

And it was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem: and it was winter.

But if thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy brother. 16 And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand. 17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. 18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven.Amen dico vobis, quaecumque alligaveritis super terram, erunt ligata et in caelo : et quaecumque solveritis super terram, erunt soluta et in caelo. 19 Again I say to you, that if two of you shall consent upon earth, concerning any thing whatsoever they shall ask, it shall be done to them by my Father who is in heaven. 20 For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 21 Then came Peter unto him and said: Lord, how often shall my brother offend against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?Tunc accedens Petrus ad eum, dixit : Domine, quoties peccabit in me frater meus, et dimittam ei? usque septies? 22 Jesus saith to him: I say not to thee, till seven times; but till seventy times seven times.Dicit illi Jesus : Non dico tibi usque septies : sed usque septuagies septies. The clemency of the Jews was content to forgive three times; Jesus says here in the Gospel that we are to forgive seventy times seven times, that is ; always.

And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart, and said to them:Et ascendens Jesus Jerosolymam, assumpsit duodecim discipulos secreto, et ait illis : 18 Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death.Ecce ascendimus Jerosolymam, et Filius hominis tradetur principibus sacerdotum, et scribis, et condemnabunt eum morte, 19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked, and scourged, and crucified, and the third day he shall rise again.et tradent eum gentibus ad illudendum, et flagellandum, et crucifigendum, et tertia die resurget. 20 Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, adoring and asking something of him.Tunc accessit ad eum mater filiorum Zebedaei cum filiis suis, adorans et petens aliquid ab eo. 21 Who said to her: What wilt thou? She saith to him: Say that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left, in thy kingdom. 22 And Jesus answering, said: You know not what you ask. Can you drink the chalice that I shall drink? They say to him: We can.Respondens autem Jesus, dixit : Nescitis quid petatis. Potestis bibere calicem, quem ego bibiturus sum? Dicunt ei : Possumus. 23 He saith to them: My chalice indeed you shall drink; but to sit on my right or left hand, is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared by my Father. 24 And the ten hearing it, were moved with indignation against the two brethren. 25 But Jesus called them to him, and said: You know that the princes of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that are the greater, exercise power upon them. 26 It shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be the greater among you, let him be your minister:Non ita erit inter vos : sed quicumque voluerit inter vos major fieri, sit vester minister : 27 And he that will be first among you, shall be your servant.et qui voluerit inter vos primus esse, erit vester servus. 28 Even as the Son of man is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a redemption for many.
Therefore fear them not. For nothing is covered that shall not be revealed: nor hid, that shall not be known. 27 That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light: and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops. St Polycarp, a disciple of St John the Apostle, was Bishop of Smyrna for seventy years, and was martyred under Marcus Aurelius A.D.169. *Personal note...St Polycarp is one of my favorite saints. Maybe just because of his name or maybe because his life story was read to me by my mother when I was a child. One of his traits was avoiding bad people. When others were preaching something different from Our Lord he plugged his ears. All that he learned from St John he taught to others. He was captured when Christians were being put to death. He gave a meal to the men who came to capture him. The judge tried to make him save himself by cursing Jesus. "I have served Jesus eighty-six years," answered the Saint "and He has never done me any wrong. How can I curse the King who died for me?" The soldiers tied St Polycarp's hands behind his back and placed him on a burning pile. But the fire did not harm him. One of the soldiers then stabbed a lance into his heart. And so the holy martyr went to be forever with the Divine Master he had served so well.
At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.In illo tempore respondens Jesus dixit : Confiteor tibi, Pater, Domine caeli et terrae, quia abscondisti haec a sapientibus, et prudentibus, et revelasti ea parvulis. 30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.

30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden light. St Margaret Mary Alacoque was born at Verosvres (France) in 1647 and entered the Order of the Visitation at Paray-le-Monial in 1671. Jesus appeared to her in many visions, displaying to her his Sacred Heart, sometimes burning as a furnace and sometimes torn and bleeding on account of the sins of men. In 1675 the revelation was made to her that she, in union with Fr de la Colombiere, SJ, was to be the chief instrument for instituting the Feast of the Sacred Heart and for spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart around the world. She died on Oct 17, AD 1690.

The Seraphic Patriarch of Assisi was a man especially raised up by God in the Middle Ages with a mission to reconvert the world to Christ. Francis was born in a stable, heralded into the world by angelic song; he commenced his work with twelve followers, whom he sent two by two to preach the Gospel. He espoused most high Proverty and received in his own body the marks of the Sacred Passion on Mount Alvernia. He founded the Order of Friars Minor, the Second Order or the Poor Clares, the Tertiaries or Third Order, which bear his name. St Francis died about susnet on Saturday, 3d October 1226.
Therefore fear them not. For nothing is covered that shall not be revealed: nor hid, that shall not be known. 27 That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light: and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops.
Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, adoring and asking something of him.Tunc accessit ad eum mater filiorum Zebedaei cum filiis suis, adorans et petens aliquid ab eo.
This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.
And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell.

No man can come to me, except the Father, who hath sent me, draw him; and I will raise him up in the last day.nemo potest venire ad me, nisi Pater, qui misit me, traxerit eum; et ego resuscitabo eum in novissimo die.

Here is the Nicene Creed (Symbolum Nicaenum) in Latin & English. CREDO in unum Deum, Patrem omnipotentem, factorem caeli et terrae, visibilium omnium et invisibilium. I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father; through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And he was made flesh by the Holy Spirit from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; suffered, and was buried. On the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and of His kingdom there shall be no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Who, with the Father and the Son, is adored and glorified: Who has spoken through the Prophets. Et unam, sanctam, catholicam et apostolicam Ecclesiam. And (I believe in) one holy, catholic and apostolic Church. Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum. Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum, et vitam venturi saeculi. Amen. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.
