Dan, Manny, & Billy put the 2023 American crime thriller film The Last Deal to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST (NOW)! “[The Last Deal] is a cautionary tale when your friend is a fucking asshole.” -Dan Dissinger The boys have so much fun talking about all the insanity in the indie action drama The Last Deal. They get into the main character's journey to sell 200 pounds of weed in only a week and to find a .22 bolt action rifle at his mom's ranch. They try to figure out why anyone would trust a friend that you just saw stab a guy with a screwdriver, why do loan sharks need to have a contract signed, the long driving sequences, in the movie, and who is this stable girl and what's her deal. There's also the separate movie the girlfriend is in and why is there a naked woman on the toilet. At the end, Dan, Manny, & Billy give their Nostalgia Test Now verdicts and rate the film. There's so much more in this episode, so sit back, grab a drink, and hangout for a while. Watch The Last Deal on Tubi! With Petesy Carroll away from the helm, Uncrowned's Chuck Mindenhall and Ben Fowlkes man the ship to preview UFC 314.The duo kicks things off by reacting to the weekend's weigh-in results, where all main card fighters successfully made weight (01:15).Chuck and Ben then break down the key paths to victory for main event fighters Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes (02:30), and weigh in on whether a loss could spell retirement for the Australian former champ (12:28). Diego Lopes appears to have his sights set on a different opponent — surprisingly, Yair Rodriguez — despite the two not being matched up. Chuck and Ben dissect their press conference mix-up and explore the potential ramifications heading into their respective fights this weekend (19:26). Next, the duo turns their attention to Yair Rodriguez's bout against UFC debutant Patricio Pitbull, before diving into Paddy Pimblett vs. Michael Chandler, the biggest test of the Scouser's career so far (28:44). Then it's on to the most bizarre matchup of the weekend: Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva. Chuck and Ben unpack the biggest storyline surrounding the fight, Bryce Mitchell's wild fight week antics (41:28), before discussing the rest of the card and spotlighting a few matchups they're excited about (51:27). Finally, the guys address the predictable mess surrounding GFL's canceled debut events and debate whether the organization has a future in the fight game (54:10).
TCW Podcast Episode 231- Street Fighter 2 Street Fighter 2 is often credited with reviving the arcade scene in the early 1990s. While it successfully brought back the must-have arcade game mentality, it couldn't stop the overall decline of arcades. The original Street Fighter was influenced by many sources, including Bruce Lee's Game of Death, anime like Fist of the North Star, and Space Battleship Yamato. With the rise of beat 'em ups following Double Dragon, Capcom released Street Fighter 89, later renamed Final Fight. Taking lessons from Final Fight, Street Fighter 2 introduced an expanded roster, streamlined special moves, combos, and more. Its popularity led to the release of two enhanced versions: Championship Edition and Turbo. Come explore the history and influences of this legendary game! We're playing two not very classics of their respective genres today as we go back to the back half of the 90s to play an early action game and a relatively early 3D platformer. We're kind of split on which game we prefer along lines I expect you'd predict, but we both had a pretty good time with both games anyway! Also, before that, Jackson gives the MOTHER of all segment 1 updates. At 16:15 or so until 1:15:30 Jackson's Audacity file broke and we had to use the backup. Em's a little quiet during this section but it's mostly okay. I did my best with the edit. Sorry about that! Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) dive into one of the most intense psychological thrillers ever—Rob Reiner's Misery, based on the legendary Stephen King novel! This chilling classic follows Paul Sheldon (James Caan, The Godfather, Elf), a best-selling author who finds himself at the mercy of his number-one fan, Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates, Titanic, American Horror Story), after a brutal car crash leaves him stranded in her remote home. As Annie's obsession spirals into madness, Paul must fight for his survival in a game of manipulation and terror. The film also stars Richard Farnsworth (The Straight Story, The Grey Fox) as Sheriff Buster and Frances Sternhagen (The Mist, Sex and the City) as his wife, Virginia. We react to all of Misery's most infamous moments, including The Car Crash, Annie's "I'm Your Number One Fan" Introduction, The Typewriter Scene, Paul Sneaking Out of His Room, The Dinner Poisoning Attempt, The Hobbling Scene, The Final Fight, and The Chilling Ending! Stephen King's Misery remains one of the most terrifying horror thrillers ever put to screen, and in honor of the horror master himself, here are some of his most famous film adaptations: The Shining (1980), Carrie (1976), It (2017), Pet Sematary (1989), The Green Mile (1999), Stand by Me (1986), The Mist (2007), Doctor Sleep (2019), Gerald's Game (2017), and 1408 (2007). Are you tough enough to take on the sleaziest underground characters imaginable in order to rescue several beautiful girls? That's not us asking. That's Konami trying to entice arcade goers to play their first four-player beat ‘em up (and largely failing). How did Crime Fighters lay the groundwork for Konami's much more successful games? Who thought it was a good idea to include some very problematic enemies? Why is this game so different between regions and player versions? How much did Vendetta steal from Final Fight who in turn stole from Crime Fighters? The brawler is certainly a genre of classics, from Final Fight to Castle Crashers. And recently, the category has enjoyed a certain return to glory with all sorts of new entries suddenly appearing on scene. And yet, is this really a comeback, a true return from the dead? Or is the beat 'em up fated to fade once this little fad, this little trend, runs its course and ends again?Visit lostnostalgia.com for more retro and golden oldie news. Thanks to Decktonic for the opening/closing tune.

As I travel through the stunning landscapes of France and Spain, I'm soaking up the energy of these vibrant places, which has been the perfect inspiration for this week's episode. There's something about the rhythm of life here that syncs beautifully with the deep, driving beats of techno. Whether you're tuning in for a workout, a long drive, or just some reflective moments, this mix is designed to keep you moving and in the zone. This week, we start with "Nexus" by Bart Skils and SUDO, a track that immediately draws you in with its hypnotic groove. Bart Skils, a key figure on Adam Beyer's Drumcode label, is known for his masterful ability to blend deep, rhythmic grooves with melodic elements. His collaboration with SUDO on this track mesmerizes, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the mix.Next, we dive into my remix of "Whoopee" by Sergio Marini and Luke. Working on this remix was an exciting challenge, as I wanted to add flavor to the dynamic track. Sergio Marini is well-respected in the Italian techno scene and is known for seamlessly merging classic and modern sounds. Luke's contribution adds an extra layer of depth, and I'm thrilled with how the remix turned out, pushing it further into peak-time territory.Closing out this highlight is "Final Fight" by Cosmic Boys. These guys have been on a roll, consistently delivering tracks that light up the dancefloor. Hailing from France, Cosmic Boys has perfected a sound that combines powerful basslines with intricate synth work. "Final Fight" is a prime example of their ability to craft hard-hitting and melodically rich tracks.Remember, the full tracklist is available at 1001 Tracklists: www.1001tracklists.com/source/80bhhv/the-midnight-project/index.html. Subscribe to the show and share the love with your fellow techno fans. I'd love to hear your thoughts—comment with your favorite track from the show or recommend an artist you'd like to hear in the next episode. For bookings, contact contact@redesignrecords.com and subscribe for a new techno mix every Wednesday at 6 AM (CET) via www.sebastiaanhooft.com.

A 'beat 'em up' or 'brawler' is a style of video game where the player character walks from left to right, beating up a seemingly endless number of enemies, until reaching the inevitable boss encounter at the end of the level. Simple, repetitive and addictive as heck, this genre of games were very popular in the late 80s and early 90s with beloved entries such as Final Fight, Double Dragon, Golden Axe and many many more. For this episode, we'll present 6 primary games that we love in the genre, as well as plenty of honorable mentions! ----------------------------------------Retro Ridoctopus is:• Parasite Steve (read)• 8-Bit Alchemy (listen) • Coopster Gold (join) • Nintenjoe (subscribe)----------------------------------------All original heavy metal music by Enchanted Exile Send us your feedback online: https://pinecast.com/feedback/retro-ridoctopus/4de58a98-ba01-4027-91fd-5a6578fc68ec

We have come to the end of September 1991 once again. Chase and Emmy played these games so long ago, how have they held up? For the most part, not great. In this episode, we talk about Hal's Hole-in-One, Super Bases Loaded (featuring Ryne Sandburg… kinda), The Chessmaster, HyperZone, Populous, Final Fight, and a special guest appearance by Ultraman: Towards the Future. A lot of these games are somewhat unique on the system and some of them take some pretty big swings, but most of them fall flat. How will that effect their placement in the SNES rankings?

It probably should have never happened. But as Muhammad Ali made his way to the ring on the night of December 11th, 1981, no one knew what to expect. A year prior, Ali faced off against Larry Holmes in a fight that was not only hard to watch but resulted in Ali's trainer stopping the fight. That should have been it--but Ali didn't want to go out like that. This led to the 'Drama in the Bahamas,' Muhammad Ali's very last professional fight. Today, we look back on how this event came to be, why no one in the U.S. would hold it, all the problems leading up to the event, and how The Greatest managed to surprise everyone.
