For whilst I am coming, another goeth down before me.Respondit ei languidus : Domine, hominem non habeo, ut, cum turbata fuerit aqua, mittat me in piscinam : dum venio enim ego, alius ante me descendit. 8 Jesus saith to him: Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.Dicit ei Jesus : Surge, tolle grabatum tuum et ambula. 9 And immediately the man was made whole: and he took up his bed, and walked. And it was the sabbath that day.Et statim sanus factus est homo ille : et sustulit grabatum suum, et ambulabat. Erat autem sabbatum in die illo. 10 The Jews therefore said to him that was healed: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.Dicebant ergo Judaei illi qui sanatus fuerat : Sabbatum est, non licet tibi tollere grabatum tuum. 11 He answered them: He that made me whole, he said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.Respondit eis : Qui me sanum fecit, ille mihi dixit : Tolle grabatum tuum et ambula. 12 They asked him therefore: Who is that man who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?Interrogaverunt ergo eum : Quis est ille homo qui dixit tibi : Tolle grabatum tuum et ambula? 13 But he who was healed, knew not who it was; for Jesus went aside from the multitude standing in the place.Is autem qui sanus fuerat effectus, nesciebat quis esset. Jesus enim declinavit a turba constituta in loco. 14 Afterwards, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and saith to him: Behold thou art made whole: sin no more, lest some worse thing happen to thee.Postea invenit eum Jesus in templo, et dixit illi : Ecce sanus factus es; jam noli peccare, ne deterius tibi aliquid contingat. 15 The man went his way, and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had made him whole.Abiit ille homo, et nuntiavit Judaeis quia Jesus esset, qui fecit eum sanum.[2] "Probatica": That is, the sheep pond; either so called, because the sheep were washed therein, that were to be offered up in sacrifice in the temple, or because it was near the sheep gate. That this was a pond where miracles were wrought is evident from the sacred text; and also that the water had no natural virtue to heal, as one only of those put in after the motion of the water was restored to health; for if the water had the healing quality, the others would have the like benefit, being put into it about the same time.

21 And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.Et egressus inde Jesus secessit in partes Tyri et Sidonis. 22 And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil.Et ecce mulier chananaea a finibus illis egressa clamavit, dicens ei : Miserere mei, Domine fili David : filia mea male a daemonio vexatur. 23 Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us:Qui non respondit ei verbum. Et accedentes discipuli ejus rogabant eum dicentes : Dimitte eam : quia clamat post nos. 24 And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel.Ipse autem respondens ait : Non sum missus nisi ad oves, quae perierunt domus Israel. 25 But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me.At illa venit, et adoravit eum, dicens : Domine, adjuva me. 26 Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs.Qui respondens ait : Non est bonum sumere panem filiorum, et mittere canibus. 27 But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters.At illa dixit : Etiam Domine : nam et catelli edunt de micis quae cadunt de mensa dominorum suorum. 28 Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour.Tunc respondens Jesus, ait illi : O mulier, magna est fides tua : fiat tibi sicut vis. Et sanata est filia ejus ex illa hora.

 31 And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty.Cum autem venerit Filius hominis in majestate sua, et omnes angeli cum eo, tunc sedebit super sedem majestatis suae : 32 And all nations shall be gathered together before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats:et congregabuntur ante eum omnes gentes, et separabit eos ab invicem, sicut pastor segregat oves ab haedis : 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left.et statuet oves quidem a dextris suis, haedos autem a sinistris. 34 Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.Tunc dicet rex his qui a dextris ejus erunt : Venite benedicti Patris mei, possidete paratum vobis regnum a constitutione mundi : 35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in:esurivi enim, et dedistis mihi manducare : sitivi, et dedistis mihi bibere : hospes eram, et collegistis me : 36 Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.nudus, et cooperuistis me : infirmus, et visitastis me : in carcere eram, et venistis ad me. 37 Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink?Tunc respondebunt ei justi, dicentes : Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem, et pavimus te : sitientem, et dedimus tibi potum? 38 And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee?quando autem te vidimus hospitem, et collegimus te : aut nudum, et cooperuimus te? 39 Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee?aut quando te vidimus infirmum, aut in carcere, et venimus ad te? 40 And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.Et respondens rex, dicet illis : Amen dico vobis, quamdiu fecistis uni ex his fratribus meis minimis, mihi fecistis. 41 Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels.Tunc dicet et his qui a sinistris erunt : Discedite a me maledicti in ignem aeternum, qui paratus est diabolo, et angelis ejus : 42 For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink.esurivi enim, et non dedistis mihi manducare : sitivi, et non desistis mihi potum : 43 I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.hospes eram, et non collegistis me : nudus, et non cooperuistis me : infirmus, et in carcere, et non visitastis me. 44 Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee?Tunc respondebunt ei et ipsi, dicentes : Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem, aut sitientem, aut hospitem, aut nudum, aut infirmum, aut in carcere, et non ministravimus tibi? 45 Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.Tunc respondebit illis, dicens : Amen dico vobis : Quamdiu non fecistis uni de minoribus his, nec mihi fecistis. 46 And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.Et ibunt hi in supplicium aeternum : justi autem in vitam aeternam.

5 And when he had entered into Capharnaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him,Cum autem introisset Capharnaum, accessit ad eum centurio, rogans eum, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, and is grieviously tormented.et dicens : Domine, puer meus jacet in domo paralyticus, et male torquetur. 7 And Jesus saith to him: I will come and heal him.Et ait illi Jesus : Ego veniam, et curabo eum. 8 And the centurion making answer, said: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.Et respondens centurio, ait : Domine, non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meum : sed tantum dic verbo, et sanabitur puer meus. 9 For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers; and I say to this, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Come, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.Nam et ego homo sum sub potestate constitutus, habens sub me milites, et dico huic : Vade, et vadit : et alii : Veni, et venit : et servo meo : Fac hoc, et facit. 10 And Jesus hearing this, marvelled; and said to them that followed him: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith in Israel.Audiens autem Jesus miratus est, et sequentibus se dixit : Amen dico vobis, non inveni tantam fidem in Israel. 11 And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven:Dico autem vobis, quod multi ab oriente et occidente venient, et recumbent cum Abraham, et Isaac, et Jacob in regno caelorum : 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.filii autem regni ejicientur in tenebras exteriores : ibi erit fletus et stridor dentium. 13 And Jesus said to the centurion: Go, and as thou hast believed, so be it done to thee. And the servant was healed at the same hour.Et dixit Jesus centurioni : Vade, et sicut credidisti, fiat tibi. Et sanatus est puer in illa hora.

31 Then Jesus took unto him the twelve, and said to them: Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things shall be accomplished which were written by the prophets concerning the Son of man.Assumpsit autem Jesus duodecim, et ait illis : Ecce ascendimus Jerosolymam, et consummabuntur omnia quae scripta sunt per prophetas de Filio hominis : 32 For he shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and scourged, and spit upon:tradetur enim gentibus, et illudetur, et flagellabitur, et conspuetur : 33 And after they have scourged him, they will put him to death; and the third day he shall rise again.et postquam flagellaverint, occident eum, et tertia die resurget. 34 And they understood none of these things, and this word was hid from them, and they understood not the things that were said.Et ipsi nihil horum intellexerunt, et erat verbum istud absconditum ab eis, et non intelligebant quae dicebantur. 35 Now it came to pass, when he drew nigh to Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the way side, begging.Factum est autem, cum appropinquaret Jericho, caecus quidam sedebat secus viam, mendicans. 36 And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this meant.Et cum audiret turbam praetereuntem, interrogabat quid hoc esset. 37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.Dixerunt autem ei quod Jesus Nazarenus transiret. 38 And he cried out, saying: Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.Et clamavit, dicens : Jesu, fili David, miserere mei. 39 And they that went before, rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out much more: Son of David, have mercy on me.Et qui praeibant, increpabant eum ut taceret. Ipse vero multo magis clamabat : Fili David, miserere mei. 40 And Jesus standing, commanded him to be brought unto him. And when he was come near, he asked him,Stans autem Jesus jussit illum adduci ad se. Et cum appropinquasset, interrogavit illum, 41 Saying: What wilt thou that I do to thee? But he said: Lord, that I may see.dicens : Quid tibi vis faciam? At ille dixit : Domine, ut videam. 42 And Jesus said to him: Receive thy sight: thy faith hath made thee whole.Et Jesus dixit illi : Respice, fides tua te salvum fecit. 43 And immediately he saw, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.Et confestim vidit, et sequebatur illum magnificans Deum. Et omnis plebs ut vidit, dedit laudem Deo.Pope St Gregory the Great says: "The man born blind of whom the Gospel tells is surely the human race. Ever since man has been turned out of Paradise in the person of our first father, he has not known the light of heaven, and therefore has suffered through being plunged into the darkness of condemnation."

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride.Tunc simile erit regnum caelorum decem virginibus : quae accipientes lampades suas exierunt obviam sponso et sponsae. 2 And five of them were foolish, and five wise.Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuae, et quinque prudentes : 3 But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them:sed quinque fatuae, acceptis lampadibus, non sumpserunt oleum secum : 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps.prudentes vero acceperunt oleum in vasis suis cum lampadibus. 5 And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept.Moram autem faciente sponso, dormitaverunt omnes et dormierunt. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh, go ye forth to meet him.Media autem nocte clamor factus est : Ecce sponsus venit, exite obviam ei. 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.Tunc surrexerunt omnes virgines illae, et ornaverunt lampades suas. 8 And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out.Fatuae autem sapientibus dixerunt : Date nobis de oleo vestro, quia lampades nostrae extinguuntur. 9 The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.Responderunt prudentes, dicentes : Ne forte non sufficiat nobis, et vobis, ite potius ad vendentes, et emite vobis. 10 Now whilst they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.Dum autem irent emere, venit sponsus : et quae paratae erant, intraverunt cum eo ad nuptias, et clausa est janua. 11 But at last come also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us.Novissime vero veniunt et reliquae virgines, dicentes : Domine, domine, aperi nobis. 12 But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not.At ille respondens, ait : Amen dico vobis, nescio vos. 13 Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem, neque horam.St Scholastica was the sister of St Benedict. Embracing the rule of her brother, she founded the Order of Benedictine nuns. She died A.D. 543.

The blessing and distribution of candles, to be carried lighted in procession, precedes the Mass today--a symbolic presentation of the truth proclaimed in the Canticle of Simeon; Our Lord is the "Light for the revelation of the Gentiles." The anthems sung during the procession, eastern in origin, will express the joy and gladness of this happy festival, and the honor and praise we give to Our Blessed Lady and her Divine Son by its devout observance.

Kencan Dengan Tuhan - Sabtu, 3 Januari 2026Bacaan: "Karena itu, saudara-saudaraku, berusahalah sungguh-sungguh, supaya panggilan dan pilihanmu makin teguh. Sebab jikalau kamu melakukannya, kamu tidak akan pernah tersandung.Dengan demikian kepada kamu akan dikaruniakan hak penuh untuk memasuki Kerajaan kekal, yaitu Kerajaan Tuhan dan Juruselamat kita, Yesus Kristus." (2 Petrus 1:10-11)Renungan: "Quo vadis Domine" adalah kalimat berbahasa Latin yang sangat terkenal. Kisahnya berawal dari pinggiran Kota Roma kuno, tahun 60-an Masehi. Pada masa itu yang memerintah Kerajaan Romawi adalah Kaisar Nero. Kaisar Nero adalah kaisar yang terkenal paling kejam dalam sejarah kekristenan. Dia melakukan penganiayaan dan pembunuhan orang-orang Kristen dengan cara-cara yang teramat kejam dan tidak manusiawi. Seperti dengan memberikan orang-orang Kristen kepada binatang-binatang buas, dan ini dipertontonkan. Atau dijadikan gladiator untuk saling membunuh di suatu arena yang juga dipertontonkan. Selain itu banyak orang Kristen yang diikat di tiang-tiang dan dibakar hidup-hidup sebagai hiasan dan sebagai obor penerang taman rekreasi Kaisar Nero di malam hari, dll. Pada masa itu Rasul Petrus melayani di Roma. Oleh para pengikutnya Petrus diminta pergi menyelamatkan dirinya, keluar dari kota Roma. Petrus mengikuti permintaan itu. Namun ketika dia sudah berada di pinggiran kota Roma, melewati Via Appia Antica dia melihat penampakan Yesus. Petrus terkejut, berlutut dan bertanya, "Quo vadis Domine?" Yang arti harafiahnya, "Hendak ke manakah Engkau pergi Tuhan?"Yesus menjawab, "Eo Romam crucifigi iterum." Yang artinya, "Aku pergi ke Roma untuk disalibkan kedua kalinya." Seketika itu juga Petrus sadar bahwa dia telah lari dari tanggung jawabnya. Petrus mengerti bahwa dia harus berkorban dan mati bagi Yesus. Dia menangis, menyesal, meminta ampun, bangkit, dan berputar kembali ke kota Roma. Akhir kisahnya kita tahu, Petrus ditangkap dan disalibkan dengan posisi kepala di bawah. Hari ini, ingatlah akan panggilanNya atas hidup kita. Kita semua dipanggil untuk menjadi anak-anak-Nya yang setia melayani Dia.
