He condemned Arianism, commanded St Jerome to translate the Holy Scriptures into Latin, and composed inscriptions for the sepulchres of the Roman martyrs. He died A.D. 384.

All who follow Christ are urged to be patient, diligent and open. In the meantime, we're called to live and practice the values of God's Kingdom, patience, reverence, hope, service, and all in harmony, avoiding complaining about one another and not getting caught up in factions or rivalries or particular disputes.  15 When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place: he that readeth let him understand. 16 Then they that are in Judea, let them flee to the mountains:  17 And he that is on the housetop, let him not come down to take any thing out of his house:  18 And he that is in the field, let him not go back to take his coat.  19 And woe to them that are with child, and that give suck in those days.  20 But pray that your flight be not in the winter, or on the sabbath. 21 For there shall be then great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, neither shall be.  22 And unless those days had been shortened, no flesh should be saved: but for the sake of the elect those days shall be shortened.  23 Then if any man shall say to you: Lo here is Christ, or there, do not believe him.  24 For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect.  25 Behold I have told it to you, beforehand. 26 If therefore they shall say to you: Behold he is in the desert, go ye not out: Behold he is in the closets, believe it not.  27 For as lightning cometh out of the east, and appeareth even into the west: so shall the coming of the Son of man be.  28 Wheresoever the body shall be, there shall the eagles also be gathered together.  29 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be moved:  30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all tribes of the earth mourn: and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with much power and majesty.[28] "Wheresoever": The coming of Christ shall be sudden, and manifest to all the world, like lightning: and wheresoever he shall come, thither shall all mankind be gathered to him, as eagles are gathered about a dead body.[29] "The stars": Or flaming meteors resembling stars.[30] "The sign": The cross of Christ. 31 And he shall send his angels with a trumpet, and a great voice: and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the farthest parts of the heavens to the utmost bounds of them.  32 And from the fig tree learn a parable: When the branch thereof is now tender, and the leaves come forth, you know that summer is nigh.  33 So you also, when you shall see all these things, know ye that it is nigh, even at the doors.  34 Amen I say to you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.  35 Heaven and earth shall pass, but my words shall not pass.[35] "Shall pass": Because they shall be changed at the end of the world into a new heaven and new earth.

After the death of her husband, she entered the Third Order of St Francis and died in poverty and humiliation, exiled by her brother-in-law A.D. 1231.

He had for his pupil the celebrated St Thomas Aquinas of the same Order, and left numerous writings. He became Bishop of Ratisbon, and died A.D. 1280, being canonised and declared Doctor of the Church in 1931.

Et quodcumque ligaveris super terram, erit ligatum et in caelis : et quodcumque solveris super terram, erit solutum et in caelis.St Marin I suffered much persecution in his defence of the Catholic Faith against the Monotholite emperors of Constantinople. He was exiled and died in A.D. 655.

Today we look at the story when Isaiah tells the people not to look to Egypt or some country to save them, but a righteous king. The righteous king and us as His princes rule with nobility. If we pardon our brethren from the bottom of our hearts, our Lord Jesus Christ will remit our debts.

Charity towards our brother is one of the principal precepts of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He reformed the clergy and renewed the spirit of the moasteries in his diocese. He died A.D. 1584.

Today we look at the deliverance provided by God for Hezekiah and the people of Judah. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.gaudete, et exsultate, quoniam merces vestra copiosa est in caelis. Sic enim persecuti sunt prophetas, qui fuerunt ante vos.We can pay no greater honor to the Saints than by offering up to God in their name the Blood of Jesus. The efficacy of their past merits and present prayers is greatly increased when offered to God in close association with the merits and prayers of our Lord. Therefore the Church commemorates on this day all the Saints in heaven without exception , and thus honors also those who are unknown and who have no public recognition in the Liturgy.

Today we continue our series from Isaiah and take a second week to look at fear. Judah was under threat of attack from Israel and Syria and God spoke to King Ahaz to be careful, be quiet and do not fear. Sometimes we don't realize it, but we are feeding our fear. God tells His people in Isaiah 41 that they are built for the trials that they are enduring so they do not have to fear. Fear tries to cripple all of us. There are so many different things that cause fear, but God tells us why we don't have to fear man, obstacles, or lack. Jesus appeared to her in numerous visions, displaying to her His Sacred Heart, sometimes burning as a furnace, and sometimes torn and bleeding on account of the coldness and sins of men. In 1675 the great revelation was made to her that she, in union with Father de la Colombiere, SJ, was to be the chief instrument for instituting the Feast of the Sacred Heart and for spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart throughout the world. She died on October 17, A.D. 1690.

As the Reformer of the Carmelites, she re-established the primitive observance of their ancient Rule. On account of her invaluable works on mystical Theology, she may be considered one of the greatest Doctors of the Church. She died A.D. 1582.

Et quodcumque ligaveris super terram, erit ligatum et in caelis : et quodcumque solveris super terram, erit solutum et in caelis.St Callixtus I, successor of St Zephyrinus, instituted the Ember-Day Fasts, and provided for the honorable internment of the Martyrs. He himself suffered martyrdom under Alexander Severus A.D. 223.

Today we continue the series from Isaiah as we see the salvation of the Lord. We see in Isaiah 53 what Jesus does for us and then in chapter 54 we see what we are supposed to do now as we wait. The Priests have received power to heal souls, to pardon sinners.

27 Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have?Tunc respondens Petrus, dixit ei : Ecce nos reliquimus omnia, et secuti sumus te : quid ergo erit nobis? 28 And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel.Jesus autem dixit illis : Amen dico vobis, quod vos, qui secuti estis me, in regeneratione cum sederit Filius hominis in sede majestatis suae, sedebitis et vos super sedes duodecim, judicantes duodecim tribus Israel. 29 And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting.Et omnis qui reliquerit domum, vel fratres, aut sorores, aut patrem, aut matrem, aut uxorem, aut filios, aut agros propter nomen meum, centuplum accipiet, et vitam aeternam possidebit.After the death of his wife, St Francis, Duke of Gandia and Viceroy of Catalonia, renounced his high position in order to enter the Society of Jesus. He was the third General of his Order and died at Rome A.D. 1572.

Today we begin a brand new series from the book of Isaiah called The Fifth Gospel. We see the salvation of the Lord on display for the people of Israel who were following the formalities of religion, but not close to God with their heart because they were dealing with sin. 34 But the Pharisees hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, came together:Pharisaei autem audientes quod silentium imposuisset sadducaeis, convenerunt in unum : 35 And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:et interrogavit eum unus ex eis legis doctor, tentans eum : 36 Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?Magister, quod est mandatum magnum in lege? 37 Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.Ait illi Jesus : Diliges Dominum Deum tuum ex toto corde tuo, et in tota anima tua, et in tota mente tua. 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.Hoc est maximum, et primum mandatum. 39 And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.Secundum autem simile est huic : Diliges proximum tuum, sicut teipsum. 40 On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.In his duobus mandatis universa lex pendet, et prophetae. 41 And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus asked them,Congregatis autem pharisaeis, interrogavit eos Jesus, 42 Saying: What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him: David's.dicens : Quid vobis videtur de Christo? cujus filius est? Dicunt ei : David. 43 He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying:Ait illis : Quomodo ergo David in spiritu vocat eum Dominum, dicens : 44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?Dixit Dominus Domino meo : Sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum? 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?Si ergo David vocat eum Dominum, quomodo filius ejus est? 46 And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.Et nemo poterat ei respondere verbum : neque ausus fuit quisquam ex illa die eum amplius interrogare.The Liturgy reminds us today of the great commandment of charity towards God and our neighbour, "The precept is twofold," declares St Augustine, "but charity is one." We love God above all and our neighbour for His sake.
