My guest today is Rachel Booth Smith. If you've ever read the Bible and wondered if your 21st-century self might be missing a few things, same! And we are! Rachel faces that question today with an eye on the very first pages of Scripture. Her new book is Rest Assured: What the Creation Story was Intended to Reveal about Trusting God, and it is so timely as we take a fresh look at what it means to truly rest. I'm learning that rest is tightly connected to my idea of trust, and Rachel offers some fantastic clarity on how that looks on any given Tuesday. I'm so grateful for her wisdom and for this conversation.  Rachel Booth Smith has a contagious love for God's Word. Her passion to teach accessible theology has led her to develop curriculum and leadership summits, write Bible studies, and teach. Rachel has a Master of Divinity degree from Pillar Seminary, where she learned to study the Bible in its original languages while being trained in ancient Near East context for both the Old and New Testament. Find her online at rachelboothsmith.com and on socials @rboothsmith. Visit KimberlyStuart.com/podcast for more from this episode.

The Pillar Seminary was founded to address persistent problems in churches and their leadership. Its students not only receive a Scripture-first education—as opposed to theology-first—but also quickly begin practicing what they're taught. The purpose of studying the biblical texts is to be transformed by them. True "head knowledge" of Scripture involves "heart knowledge"; by practicing biblical principles, we can understand the text better. Join us this week as Scott Booth, Dan Lowery, and Donnell J. Moore discuss how Pillar's approach to seminary and studying Scripture ultimately transforms students, equipping them to lead in their local churches, make disciples, and meed needs effectively within their ministries. She holds a master's degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and is the author of “No More Holding Back” and “The In Between Place.” She serves on the board of Pillar Seminary and is pursuing her doctorate at Northern Seminary starting in 2022. She and her husband Aaron have been married for 18 years and live in Dallas, TX with their son Caleb and attend Dallas Bible Church where Aaron serves as the lead pastor. In today's episode, Kat and I chat through her new book “The In Between Place.” We specifically talk about how now is the time to speak up and use your voice to impact and influence culture and why you should approach your career as assignment living rather than trying to find your one true calling. Lastly, we look deeply into the story of the woman at the well found in John 4 and how her story speaks to us today in the “in between place” in our lives. If you find yourself feeling stuck when it comes to your career, assignment or place in life, be sure to listen in.  Kat will encourage you as you come to see that Jesus is ready to meet you in the stuckness of life.   Books by Kat Armstrong:   No More Holding Back The In-Between Place Connect with Kat at: Website: https://www.katarmstrong.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katarmstrong1/ Polished Network: https://www.polishedonline.org Polished Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/polished.online Podcast: Apple Podcasts Link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-polished-podcast/id1154202161?mt=2 Google Podcasts Link: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9wb2xpc2hlZHBvZGNhc3QubGlic3luLmNvbS9yc3M

We're thrilled to welcome Rachel Smith to The Truly Co podcast on this week's episode. Rachel is a Truly magazine writer, with articles included in Truly's leadership and unity issues. In addition, Rachel is a Midwest mom who doubles as a Master's student at Pillar Seminary and is passionate about studying and understanding the literary truth of the Bible.   In this conversation, Rachel shares a wealth of knowledge about common misinterpretations of the Bible, toxic theology, women in ministry, and more. She compares Biblical truth in our hearts to a plant – "If you have just begun to have a seed planted, you need to take time to grow that truth before sharing it with the world, or it will shrivel up," she says.    Rachel shares her story of how she internalized this concept ten years ago as her daughter lay very ill in a hospital at a young age. Meditating on God's truths in that devastating season brought understanding and maturity to her faith and knowing God's character.     She encourages us to always go back to the intent of God in dry, confusing times. First, pursue scripture. Scripture, Rachel explains, first and foremost, should be our filter. Unfortunately, though, there are times when the most we can do is go on a walk, and Rachel reminds us that God is declaring something over us even if we don't hear it or feel it. "A little bit of faithfulness is a big deal in dry times."   Listen and learn more about Rachel's wisdom in pursuing and understanding the Bible's true meaning.   Connect with Rachel for more resources at rachelboothsmith.com, on Instagram @firmlyanchored, on Twitter @rachel7092, or via e-mail rachel@smithsfrontdoor.com   Some of her favorite resources: How to Read the Bible for All It's Worth by Gordon D. The Proverbial wisdom of "do good get good" gets thrown on it's head when Job does everything right but gets nothing but atrocities in return. The book of Job is necessary because we can all point to times in our life where we did all the right things but got nothing but bad results. What can we learn from a man who did everything right and then lost everything in return? What does Job demand of God? What does God tell Job about why he suffered? And what is Job's response to God in the end? Job is a heavy book. But it speaks right to the heart of living a life of wisdom and selflessness.
